I was a huge Pumpkins fan and saw Hum open up for them in 1998 on the Adore tour. Ended up enjoying Hum's set more, even though I only knew a couple songs. Adore was great and all, but wasn't a fan of that tour in particular... too much twinkley piano and the dual drummers that just sounded off. So, for me, Hum stole the show... I wished they had a longer set.

I never ever heard a song on the radio in the 90’s not even stars, never heard that till around 10 years ago when my then fiancée was using aol music on his computer as a pandora-type thing just to get ready in the morning and stuff. My husband had cable all his life (I didn’t till around 1999) and watched mtv all the time and never saw them either. How?? This stuff is amazing!!!! It should have been HUGE!! Matt is not fake, he is real in everything he does, his heart comes through in everything he does and frankly I'm glad there wasn't a ton of fame from Hum because it might have killed him! I love Matt.

I was this many years old when it finally dawned on me that Hum's You'd Prefer An Astronaut was a concept album. It's the story of a young lad falling in love with a stranded martian girl.

1995 summer before my Jr. year HS, I was visiting my grandparents. Well, sent there to be lectured for getting caught smoking trees. I was sitting in Grandpas recliner watching 120mins late one night eating goldfish. Stars came on and I just sat there asking who the fuck is this. I always hear a song and forget the name and band before buying it. Not this time. I wrote down HUM and Stars. Got to Hastings as fast as I could next few days and bought You'd Prefer An Astronaut. Brought that CD back to Oklahoma with me and it instantly created dozens of HUM fans when they heard it.

I truly think that You'd Prefer Astronaut is one of those albums that doesn't enough credit. I mean come on, it is definitely an influence on the sound of Deftones more less heavy sound.

The fact that Dimpsey appears in 2:00 in a hunting hat is meaningful to me because it reminds me of Holden Caulfield. It's my favorite literary character in a clip of one of my favorite bands. P.S: It's kind of ironic too, in a good way, because HUM makes part of that feeler bands fever from the mid to late 90s. Shoegaze. Midwest emo. Post-hardcore. All of it are stuff that a modern Holden Caulfield would probably enjoy.

It was early 90's I was 12 years old. HMV used to have CD's you could listen to in their stores. I put-on a set of their headphones and HUM's "I Hate It Too" was the first song that came on. I was HOOKED! HUM is and will always be my favourite band, I own every album and EP they've ever produced. It was I believe 1998 my brother and I had scored tickets to see them play in Toronto, it would be my first time getting to see them live. I was freaking out! They were doing a cross Canada tour if I'm not mistaken. I ended up getting sick and couldn't go to the show. They then were in a car accident following that show, damaged their tour van, and that was it. They never toured in Canada again and I never got to see them. I really wish that one day they would release new music.

I love how endless music discovery is, especially when we’re talking about past decades. For me, my introduction to the 90s was obviously through popular groups like Nirvana, RHCP, and the like. And then, you really dig deep into the other stuff going on from that era-Hum, Failure, anything indie (MBV, Pavement)…God, music is an endless, beautiful scavenger hunt (as I always say).
