For me the biggest benefit of having a modular silencer like the Huma is to tune barrel harmonics. Recently got a new rifle and had a 0db which worked great on the old rifle. New rifle was shooting like a shotgun. Put a Huma on and was shooting great... actually had down to its shortest configuration and was just as silent as having 2 or 3 baffles on. But silencers definitely effect barrel harmonics and the ability to have 1 for multiple guns is pretty cool.

I note that some folk get quite excited about a few db difference. Measuring the sound close to the muzzle is very interesting academically but your neighbours or the rabbits don't stand 1 meter from the muzzle. Surely a real world test would be the sound at maybe 20 or 30 meters especially when you consider that sounds at different frequencies are attenuated differently over distance (www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-air.htm) In other words the usefulness of a silencer is better measured at the target distance. (Unless of course you just buy a silencer for posing your bling around the club house!)
@blackpoolairrifles93116 жыл бұрын
It would be great if the Db meter would pick up the noise from a distance, but they don't . The muzzle noise is drowned out by the ambient noise . Testing the muzzle noise is about the only choice.

I suggest for a future video here or on Hot Air, you get a real db meter, use a rest with measurements at firing point, and down range, I am sure the meters can be hired and do a review of the relative sound reduction of all the major silencers on a few air guns, short barrels, medium and long as well as any changes to poi which will let folk decide on performance, looks surely is secondary unless you have a red wolf and need the red hugget :-)
@CliveRoads6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, sound pressure and frequency range are critical to this type of review. Everyone hears differently so unless a large sample of people is taken an 'opinion' is almost worthless. High frequencies carry further and are more annoying to neighbours.....
@blackpoolairrifles93116 жыл бұрын
This was just a quick video but we are collecting a db meter early next week to do it properly :)
@BoronAlloy10 күн бұрын
@@CliveRoads High frequencies certainly don’t carry further, due to their shorter wavelength being more easily attenuated. It’s low frequency which travels further, unattenuated. I agree that a proper review would capture frequency input (unsilenced) and output, as well as SPL

@@BoronAlloy Apologies - finger trouble on my count, you are correct of course. I was on my mobile. What I intended to say was that high frequencies are more noticeable and attention grabbing - one of the reasons that young animals have high pitched cries.

I can use it on my Compatto, BSA Mercury and umarex Walther CP99 in different lengths. It only cost me about £35 so a bargain. Easily the most flexible and best value for money. @LloydSchober3 жыл бұрын
It will fit but won't be as quiet as the Weihrauch. Weihrauch are also making new silencers that are better called the XL and XLk
@551taylor3 жыл бұрын
Please don’t call them silencers as they don’t silence shots. Their true title is ‘moderator’, because they moderate, i.e. reduce, the amount of sound that is produced by the shot, but their success is governed by many factors. First they have to be used with locked breech weapons. Blow back and recoil weapons, and all revolvers, all allow gases to escape from the breech or cylinder respectively, which equates to loud noise. They also don’t work well with supersonic rounds because the bullet breaking the sound barrier causes a crack of its own. Another thing to watch out for is that a bad moderator can affect accuracy, because the round has to transit from a straight barrel to a narrow passage through the baffles. Finally their life is finite because the hot gases being trapped damage the moderator’s packing or baffles, whichever is used, which means they become less effective the more you use them. Obviously air guns don’t produce corrosive or hot gases, so their moderator life is pretty long when compared to full-bore firearms, and obviously they conform to the locked breech requirements, but they are still not silencers…
@James28R2 жыл бұрын
The original patent was for a ‘silencer’. So you are wrong
@cliveleggett60746 жыл бұрын
Does adding a silencer effect the accuracy? I just bought a red wolf, it’s fantastically accurate. I’d like to add a silencer, but i don’t want to sacrifice accuracy
@blackpoolairrifles93116 жыл бұрын
Not if everything is as it should be....the threads on the barrel are machined correctly and the silencer baffles are aligned properly when being made. Sometimes a silencer can make an air rifle more accurate due to the added weight at the front of the gun stabilising it more, this is noticeable on very light guns or ones with more of the weight to the back of the gun .
@bakerg215 жыл бұрын
Blackpool Air Rifles Agreed. For me this is particularly applicable to a red wolf - the combination of carbon bottle and shroud make for a very light front end. Then add the very quick lock time and particularly on the FAC model you end up with a bit of muzzle flip and hold sensitivity. Tried some very nice quiet arbon silencers on it but am now trending toward heavier ones for that but of stability
