It's somewhat of a meme started by the guys of Vildjharta. It came from a game they played, where there was a character named Thrall, and I guess people started mispronouncing it or something, and it became Thall, which, after the Vildjharta "Thall 1" video, people thought meant something about the sound of the guitar. As such, the word "Thall" has morphed into onomatopoeia of a very low, distorted open guitar note, just like "djent" and the heavily palm-muted double power chord.

Well, I was born in 1961 in a small mining village in South Wales, UK. My first years were spent....oh, by 'here' you mean to this site, right? It came up on my KZbin feed, I clicked on it, listened to the first few minutes and thought this is good, kind of scary ambient with metal undertones, then the voice kicked in. I didn't know this type of music existed (though having seen Sabbath live in 76 and Zep live in 79 I thought I knew what metal and rock were).I'm just too old to get it, I guess

This style of guitar playing is called Djent, many misuse the term as a genre. This bands style is not melodic Hardcore, it is in fact Progressive Deathcore. Many people get into arguments over genre classifications so I find it better to suggest bands. Some you might like are Vildhjarta, who are a little creepier/more based on ambience. After the Burial, are much more Melodic and based on Guitar work. The list goes on, Volumes, Structures, Substructure....I could rattle on forever

Having listened to Vildjarta before these guys, I do obviously see the similarities but from what I can tell: HLB has a Progressive/Rhythmic feeling and build up in each song, still using atmospheric elements, but staying mostly to the head thrashing chugging that we all enjoy in Technical Death Metal genre. From what I hear in Vildjarta they use a lot more atmospheric elements and have a lot more influence in concussive guitar that they offset with frequent atmospheric string bends. The chugging beat is less prevalent in Vildjarta so I think I will end up enjoying Humanity's Last Breath more than Vildjarta.

My favorite deathcore album used to be Abnegate by Signal the Firing Squad. I think this album takes the spot.

Omg dude, that's my fave band.

aokigaharaIMPULSE I absolutely love them too. You should also check out And Hell Followed With. My favorite songs by them are Venomspitter, One of the Swarm, and This Night is the Coroner's. They're a really good deathcore band too.

The0Gene Oh man. Earth Harvest in my honest opinion was more intense than Abnegate. It's a shame they split though :/

Abnegate is so damn good. Australian Deathcore blows American Deathcore out of the water. I'm not sure what country HLB originates from though, I've never listened to them before (even as I'm typing this the album isn't playing)
