Some other differences for those who are thinking of buying: (1) Neolithic start: time to roam and find a good area to start your city (2) No city spam: territories are pre-defined and pretty logical geographically-speaking; no more AI building a city 2 tiles from you; if you want a resource, you claim the territory and it's yours until you build a city or they ransack it (3) Claimable wonders: no more AI sniping your wonder when you're just about to finish. And in general, the things that are the same, seem to be improved - diplomacy, barbarians, war grievances.

I've really enjoyed all the video reviews coming out with this game, and the ability to shift from one age to another as you move through eras just feels like it adds so much to the game. The battle setup is so much better, too. I'd love to see this style become one type of 4x game while Civ, which did so much well, fixes the horrificly bad Civ 6 AI. Great review!

I've been looking forward to this game for ages now. My only disappointment was that I was unable to get my new computer before it's release, so for the foreseeable future I'll just have to let KZbin be my Humankind outlet.

You could always try stadia.

I'm really gutted to hear that! I've been looking out for it too, it's going to be a nice filler whilst we see what Firaxis have next.

@@stephenmcclean4996 That would be an idea. Though for that I have to wait until my phone company puts in a better internet line. I'm due for an upgrade sometime within the next two months when the company lays new cables.

This will not be a filler game for civilization. I think it will replace it, until Civ improves. The CIV AI in single player is horrendous. I just hope the AI in HUMANKIND is better. That's the real difference maker for me. If the AI doesn't play smart, it takes away all the fun and that's what happens in CIV in single player.

Another thing that sucks about poor AI, Is that when you play single player for so long, you get used to exploiting the dumb AI. Then when you get to multiplayer…

@@devonharmon2245 Totally agree, But I still don't have the answer to my question. Is the AI smart?

I have zero expectation that the Humankind AI will be any better than Civ VI AI. That's not an attack on the game, or the people who like the game, or the developers of the game. That's a reality of AI for open ended types of games. Indeed, it's entirely possible Humankind's AI will be worse that Civ VI's. There are a few reasons for this: 1. Humankind has a few years of development while Civ VI has a few years of development plus five years of release plus whatever they've learned in Civ, Civ II, Civ III, Civ IV, Civ V, and the other various Civ games; 2. Humankind has 1,610,510 culture focus combinations (I checked, Amplitude Studios did that calculation correctly). Civi VI has 50 civilizations. With 50 civilizations you can do at least some obvious AI hardcoding (e.g. if your civilization bonuses give you military advantages, then prioritize building a military). What 1.6 million civilization combination, it's difficult to have the AI optimize (or at least not totally screw up) one of those sequences (e.g. what is your build prioritization for the culture sequence: Militarist - Aesthete - Builder - Militarist - Scientist - Scientist?
