Hey weird question: is there any reason to get more than one star in the neolithic era? Like is that a thing, to hangout and get every star for points?
@JumboPixel3 жыл бұрын
Great question - and it’s a bit of an extra for experts one so I didn’t include it in this video. Generally it’s not a good idea. Being late to culture selection isn’t good. However there are two key benefits: 1. If you complete 10 scientific curiousities you get access to a special legacy trait, granting either +1 food, production or science per city or outpost for the rest of the game. 2. As the tribal units can multiply (thanks to being ‘nomadic’) by fighting, ransacking and gathering food, you might want to grab a few extras. They upgrade into scouts (or runners as the Harappans) for free! So you could spend a few extra turns getting more of them to support your expansionism in the Ancient era. And that concludes my Ted Talk ;)
@8wayz2shine3 жыл бұрын
It is worth it if you see a few more curiosities and want to get them. You can get extra population and a trait at the end of that. You will also have extra time to put down some outposts. :)
@dwarfilicious15263 жыл бұрын
The legacy trait is incredibly strong and it scales with population, so always get it if you can.
@peacefuldawn68233 жыл бұрын
If there's a culture that you definitely want to play and is generally in high demand, then get that culture asap. But if you don't actually care about your first culture, then spending as long as possible to grab discoveries means you'll have a bigger science and influence boost while your tribe will become massive - I managed to capture an enemy capital at the start of the game thanks to this. Don't stick around just for the points though, as the fame bonus is miniscule.
@softxpandguest7083 жыл бұрын
Correction: the legacy trait is +1 food, science, or industry *per population* for the rest of the game. It's absolutely a huge bonus, and arguably worth waiting a couple of turns extra if you're close to unlocking it.

Sanctuaries in the Neolithic generate the mammoths and deer; the Lairs generate the bears. in later era's they turn into spawn points for either friendly or hostile "independent peoples"

Great guide. Would you consider doing guides for each era of the game? I think that would be a good way to structure guides for this game and would help people start to take on the crazy ai on the higher difficulties
@JumboPixel3 жыл бұрын
Yes! I’d love to do that - around 30 minutes on each era covering off the must-dos and key info! Stay tuned 😎

@@JumboPixel Would also like to say thank you. Getting used to Humankind coming from civ has been a bit overwhelming. This video really helped narrow my focus on learning one thing at a time and explained things very well (ie I didn't notice the little peace icon when a peaceful unit is on the map!). I can't wait to see more of these vids.

3:00 - looking at the terrain and the height of the cliffs, I'd say your unit is on the 5th or 6th level, with a 6th or 7th "upstream" to your units left; not counting the Mountain as a level. In the map editor there are 10 elevations for land and 0 to -4 for ocean (though none of the ocean levels seem to change anything -- would be great if you could put in something like an "ocean trench" on the map) 3:38 - you didn't unlock the deed, one of the AIs did; as text says, "[deed] has been locked by another Empire"

This is a great beginner video. Ironically, I came for the question asked by Frederick, so I found my answer. I think your videos are amazing, but this one could be named beginner. It's like a "first play video". Having said this, I'll probably find my answer/s within your other videos. I tend to complete the legacy trait every time in Neolithic and don't regret it, but I'm struggling with the Ancient era getting stuck there for many turns after I could leave.

Hunting mammoths is far and away the most productive thing you can do early game; a free unit and twenty influence is a massive return. One key trick when fighting wildlife is they will always attack you in combat, so you can take advantage of the +2 defence bonus (when you don't autoresolve combat) by not attacking at first, especially as they will often charge you uphill.

Thanks Jumbo for the tutorial. On the subject of cities, attaching territories vs creating cities. Is it just as simple as you attach a territory because of the city cap? So once your city cap increases, you detach a territory and create a city? How do you know which territory to detach and create a city ?
@JumboPixel3 жыл бұрын
Hi! That’s a big one! In general you also have to weight up stability (merging territories reduced stability) and decide on what territories you’d like to share production and resources. I’ll cover it in more detail in an upcoming video 🙂

Even better then walking 1 step at a time, is turning auto run on and off for every movement. Auto explore makes units automaticly walk towards the closest discovery, even if they are in fog of war.

Guess I'm weird, just started yesterday my son was playing w/one of his friends online and was struggling, so i dinked around and watched some vids, some of your newer ones, some other tubers which are out of date. Downloaded on steam b/c $10 for a civ like game is a steal. I tend to go civ heavy w/production and fame over food. Tons of food if you look for outposts w/a ton of it, and plenty of sciences seem to give you an ability to make more. Food shouldn't be an issue early either, if it becomes one, there are later cultures to fix that. Haven't completed a game yet, still dicking around, but gotten into the early modern era? and was 2nd or 3rd for much of it. An ability to build a lot, quickly + produce a ton of influence seems a far bigger issue later in the game then producing food. I'll definitely rethink where I put outposts though I would flip and got 10+ food 8 prod min, or 10+ prod 8 food. Do like the one tile at a time; I also learned that just b/c it's your turn, doesn't mean the AI's civ's turn is over; a few times i moved armies only to realize that before I finished my turns their armies showed up at the town i just left; hurray for reloads. I seem to have no luck in finding special areas like the GBR, any hints on that =)

Is there a mode to play against only AI? I prefer to play games against AI other than players because players are always bullying the weaker players causing me to never have a chance to play games normally.

This is a great video. I do have some constructive feedback for you though. The advertisements were fairly aggressive and off-putting as a result. For me, with this being the first video I've watched, I'll watch another. But if the ads stay as frequent I may end up looking elsewhere for videos that aren't interrupted as often. I hope this isn't received as trolly. I like your content so far. I'd like to see you continue.
