Awesome diy for the beginners. Could I add some fragrance oil? How to measure how much to add? Thank you 😊

What solubilizer can you use for a clear formulation, if you were to add a lightweight oil? For like a foam body wash. For a inspirational picture hempz pink pomelo & Himalayan salt body foam wash. I already looked at your blog post but didn’t find my answer

So what do we do about adding fragrance? Would we need a solubilizer to add fragrance oil? Would that affect the ph?

LOVE this recipe!! Thank you so much for sharing! I can’t wait to try this with my daughters! They’re going to be 19 & 20 this month & next month and they’re starting to get excited about diy bath, body & makeup products! I talk about you all the time and am so grateful they will have you to follow and learn from! I have a strange love of hand soaps so I can’t wait to try this, foamy is my favorite lol about 22 years ago I used a foaming face wash from ponds. They had stopped making it at some point and I was heart broken! I have yet to find anything that matches it. This opens the door to possibly creating my own one day❣️ Thanks Again Marie☮️💟🧼🐝

I just got all my ingredients to make this and i gotta say I love how much it foams. My one complaint I have and had a few others test it say it feels dry if that makes sense. I'm wondering if there is something that can be added to make it feel softer and more moisturizing on your hands? Maybe hydrolyzed silk. I usually make liquid soap from scratch but my recipes always clog the former bottles so I thought this recipe would be a close substitute
@HumblebeeAndMe3 жыл бұрын
Start by reducing the % of surfactant :) Hand washes and soaps are never going to be truly moisturizing because of how they function (basically rinsing sebum + dirt off the skin), but they can be more gentle. Happy making!
@lindawere3 жыл бұрын
Yes! This happened for me too. Funny thing is that a simpler version without the glycerine was less drying.

I've read somewhere that you don't need a preservative if you're using surfactants since it kinda kills the microbes as well and I've seen a highend milky cleanser on the market without a preservative in its LOI. what do you think?
@HumblebeeAndMe3 жыл бұрын
There is a tiny bit of truth in that, but it's certainly not a universal truth. It's roughly as true as saying "food doesn't need to be refrigerated and will be shelf stable for years". Sure, that's true for *some* foods, but it's definitely not universally true, and there are lots of other factors :) For surfactant formulations-what type/charge of surfactant? What concentration? What's the pH? What's the water activity? What's the water content? What else is in the formulation? The cleanser you mentioned almost certainly has other formulation factors in play that make it self-preserving :) Please refer to the "relevant links & further reading" of this formulation's blog post for a 2-part series from Botanical Formulations that shares tons of fabulous info on this topic. Happy making!

Hi there, do you have any thoughts on using Sodium C14-C16 Olefin Sulphonate as a surfactant to replace a standard SCS, SLS or SLSa? I had a look on your website and could not find any reference to it. I'm interested because I am looking for a sulfate free ingredient to add to a DIY foaming handwash tablet that can cater for eczema prone skin. Thank you.
@HumblebeeAndMe Жыл бұрын
It's in the free Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/) + listed here: www.humblebeeandme.com/surfactants/ :) I'd probably choose Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI) instead as it sounds like the goal is a very gentle solid anionic surfactant :)
@erin913 Жыл бұрын
@@HumblebeeAndMe Thank you so much for your reply. My spelling was different which is probably why it didn't come up in your search results, thank you for linking to the correct page. And thank you for the suggestion of using SCI, I will give that a try! :)

Hi Marie, thanks so much for sharing! Certainly go to try this recipe after I try the super concentrated dish washing paste! (finally waiting for those ingredients to arrive) By the way, do you suggest that natural lemon peels can be added to give some fragrance to this hand wash formulation? Hey! You’ll find what you are looking for in my book 😊 It’s called Make it Up: The Essential Guide to DIY Makeup and Skin Care and it’s all about how to create your own makeup at home. I’ve compiled a big list of places to buy it here: www.humblebeeandme.com/make-it-up-order/. I’m very proud of it, and if you’re interested in making your own colourful cosmetics it is definitely a great place to start!

I always link all the ingredients for any given formulation in the blog post, which is linked in the description box below the video (that's one of the many reasons I highly suggest reading the blog post as well as watching the video! If you're not sure what I mean by the "description box", read this: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/whats-the-description-box-on-youtube/.). Sometimes those links break because they're always off-site links, or sometimes the store I've linked to isn't in your country. That's why I also have a giant page of places to shop all over the world, which you can find here: www.humblebeeandme.com/resources/. It doesn't have every country in the world, but it does contain all the online stores I know about. If your country isn't listed, that's because I don't know about any online stores in your country. You could try looking for a local Facebook group for people who like making soap & other cosmetics-they may be able to recommend places to shop. Happy making!
