FYI... the solenoid and the arm are parts you can buy individually at places like Rock Auto so the intake manifold can be repaired at a lower cost now.

Mr Humble: I cannot thank you enough for your video. I have had three manifolds on my Volkswagen CC, and the third has failed. I have to drive for my job-I need my car!!, I have no time due to my two small kids, and I have other car expenses due to being hit by an uninsured driver. I loather the prospect of paying out for a new manifold. I just snapped back in the little are you described and my car is running great!!! No fast slow idle, but now a smooth idle. I cant thank you enough!!!

TY so much for posting this video. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out a misfire on Cyl 4. I replaced the usual suspects, ignition coil and spark plug, with no effect. After watching your video I checked and discovered the arm had popped out. Popping it back in fixed the misfire. I guess I will be replacing the entire manifold with the new version eventually, but for now I'm back on the road.😃

Failed part. Both my fuel pump 1800.00 and my water pump 3000.00 failed 15,000 miles apart. Intake fail was what I put in shop for. Mechanic said just a vacuum hose was off, but my water pump was leaking, needs r&r. $3000. later I pick up, drive 10 miles and engine light comes on. Return to shop, they are putting on new intake today. Then I looked you up! Thank you, Man! A real answer in about 3 minutes.

Thanks for the great info. The car was flagging the 2015 and 2187 codes. After watching this video I found the input shaft had backed out. I put a little pressure on it and moved the vacuum shaft and it popped right back in. Now it has a very smooth idle.

If manufacturers would stop using plastic for shit that shouldn't be plastic it would stop a lot of problems that exist. Manifolds and water pumps and coolant pipes shouldn't be plastic.

My intake didn't fail but when it came time to do another valve cleaning I decided to change it since the car now has 160K miles. The actuator and flapper were all nice and tight. Boy were those valves and injectors gunked up ugly. I'm not surprised it was running so poorly after seeing that. Thanks for the video..

I had a very rare 6 series V-12 BMW, pre OBDII,pre check engine light that failed emissions (high HC),we sold the car, I did the used car check out. Part of the check out did not involve checking if it would pass emissions. By 2002 our Dealership did not posses a 2 or 3 gas analyzer (no analyzer of any type) and no "Sun machine" type device to check primary and secondary ignition performance.The car had heated cats. I worked off two known issues (intake manifold leaks) and secondary ignition wires failing. Just disconnecting a secondary wire at the spark plug will damage the wire,our cost for wires was 300.00 per side,(two sides). Customer pay on intake reseal was 5.0 hrs, with plenty of old fuel line to replace. I did the wires and the intake reseal and it still failed. I said "any further work by me will be paid straight time" I rolled my box out that day and right into a GM Dealer that same day. I made the most money I ever made at that Dealer but all good things must come to an end.

Hello, I was happy to see that a video exist to explain the dreadful error code P2015 "Potentiometre clapet tubulure admission - Signal incoherent" in French. I have a Passat CC 2008 engine BZB 1,8 TSI. Although the warning lamp lit every day, the car is still working normally. I will go the VW rep here in Genva to ask for free replacmeeent (I'am dreaming. here is Switzerland nothing is replaced for free . I had to replace the Clutch kit of my DSG 7 at 42'000 km. Too much vibrations between 1st and 2nd gear) . But that's another story. Maybe it's the last time a will drive a VW. I'll have to find a car not made of plastic, lol

I really like all your videos. Thank you so much for putting them together. This one saved me a bunch of time and money as the little flap rotator thingy was popped out on mine making the car nearly undriveable. Brought to a VW mechanic and $400 dollars later nothing changed. I've managed to pop it back in but when I put my thumb over the end it's still pulling a small vacuum on my thumb. I'm guessing this isn't normal and the manifold should be replaced?

Thanks for the heads up on that. We had the work done that you suggested and it cost us $525.00. Idk if they pulled a fast one on us, but they said if we did not change the spark plugs the car may start to back fire. so we changed them too.

This was great. Hooked me up big time (the knowledge I picked up ahead of going to my dealer with a P2015 issue). My GTI '13 was NOT covered by VW America's extended warranty on this part that I read about but a combination of VW losing well deserved momentum due to Dieselgate and my handling of the service department lead to my 71k GTI getting a new Intake Manifold job at $0; I just offered to pay for the media blasting/cleaning of the intake port which I was quite happy to pay for. My GTI is running nicely now and while I'm somewhat frightened at what the next failure will be (having come from a JSW HP Fuel pump problem), I love VWs and am grateful to The Humble Mechanic for all that he puts in here. Has the 2019 GTI 2.0 intake manifold been upgraded by VW? I bought a new 2019 GTI Rabbit, 6 speed manual. Black. Only driven 900 km to date. Any concerns with this car? I will not be modifying the car in any way. I've store the car during the winter ( plenty of dry storage buildings at my farm ). Hi, I found many of your videos very helpful. I had a bad/stretched timing chain in my 2009 tiguan at 118,000 miles. I removed the head had a machine shop replace my valves, replaced cam chain, tensioner, guides, all new gaskets, new injector seals. I had the manifold replace from dealer a few years ago. But the hardest part of this job was trying to put the bracket on for the manifold. I saw an aftermarket high performance manifold that actually does not use the bracket. The car runs better than ever, but I did not install the bracket. With the 9 bolts and in throttle body intake hose holding the manifold in place it does not seem like it is needed. What is your thoughts?

Great video. So I have a stage 1 tuned 2.0Tsi and I've been having the following problems: 1) Cold start - until the cycle has finished (choke off) if I briefly press the gas, the engine will rev up by itself. 2) I have an intermittent problem where the boost comes in very linear on partial throttle - almost like vtec! 3) Sometimes with a steady right foot, and particularly when going up a hill I can feel the throttle pulsing and hear the DV dumping air.Only bolt-on modification is an air intake, car has been tuned to 269 bhp.Anything you can do to help me diagnose this will be massively appreciated.

Humble Mechanic, thank you for sharing your expertise... I viewed you video on removing the manifold. What experience with my CC one day was I started my car and it stalled which never happened, with a flashing CE light. Then I stayed it again and it had a rough idle, drove successfully with no light. Started in the morning with a CE light... throwing all codes 2015 and misfires, etc. checked out your video on replacing the manifold. CE Light is still one. No rough idle, smooth ride, maybe slight less power but nothing significant... do I need to erase CE? Thank you sir.

For people with APR tunes It seems like a runner flap delete would solve pretty much all of these potential problems. No? APR now offers a free RFD software update for all tune stages. It seems all of the failure points mentioned are RF related, could you not just do a RFD rather than replacing the manifold?

I just went through this on my 2015 A5 last week. However, mine is a flex-fuel car so the intake manifold is aluminum. With that the vacuum valve, lever, etc. bolt onto the manifold separately. I had a shop complete the repair (I was unable to find the right part), only $960 later :/ But it is all good now.

Charles, I hope you can answer a question for me: The girlfriend has a 2006 Passat 2.0 TSI with 56,000 miles. She got a check engine light, and the code reader showed: P2015, P2008, and P2181. I found your intake manifold replacement videos on Deutsche Autoparts and was all set to call the dealer, and that failing to order a manifold and thermostat to tackle the job. But... She took it to her local mechanic, who addressed the P2181 by changing the thermostat, and addressed the intake faults by changing the oil before clearing the codes (I kid you not). The car now shows: P0238 Turbo/Super Boost Sensor A Circuit, High Input. The P2015 and P2008 codes are absent. The car barely accelerates to 25 mph, and then does better. My suspicion is that either the intake tube is loose or damaged (as you mention having seen in your video), or that the boost sensor connector is loose, given that the aforementioned shop would have removed this tube to replace the thermostat. I'm taking a wild guess that this is somehow preventing the P2015 and P2008 codes, and that the defective intake still needs to be addressed, along with whatever is causing the P0238. Does this sound well reasoned to you? I want to be prepared with a new intake, if need be, when I lay hands on the thing. Thanks for your in depth vids, and for you time here.

Thanks for the video So when you reach 3800 rpm the actuator arm move and stays open until you reduce the rpm Or when you reach 3800 rpm it moves open and close even if you keep the rpm 3800 Because mine when i reach 3800 rpm and keep it on 3800 the actuator arm moves open and close back so fast What i think is it must stay open until i reduce tge rpm

Thank you for this video! It helped show me exactly where the issue was with the manifold on my GTI. Have you seen the piece that connects the motor to the valve actually break off? The arm that comes off the motor is floating by itself in front of the whole in my intake.

Can/should you clean out the intake manifold while its out for valve carbon deposit cleaning? In my mind i think it would be a great idea to brake clean all of the oil residue out of it to help keep the valves clean that much longer? I plan to do it with my Audi A4 2.0l turbo soon

2009 Tiguan mine replaced under warranty. Received letter stating recall. Mine went out at 60000. Interesting had it off and dealer stated carbon buildup. Argued that since intake off shouldn't the dealer clean carbon. I figured it should be done at a very reduced cost-quote was 500. I figured it was to get money back for the warranty repair. i wish the dealers would work with car owners on some of these known problems like carbon buildup. It only makes sense to me that if younhave the intake off clean the carbon. Pull runners start scraping and spray the carb cleaner suck it out and charge one hour labor. Why 500 dollars. I own two businesses and understand fixed cost and insurance and most of that is covered in your hourly rate.
@HumbleMechanic
@HumbleMechanic 9 жыл бұрын
That is odd they would charge $500 for that WITH the intake off. That is not much of a discount from full price. Here is how I handle that. If I have to take the intake off under warranty, I advise the customer that we are going to inspect for carbon. IF it needs attention will will charge 2 hours labor. That means they pay for only a bit of labor and nothing for removing the intake. VW generally doesn't pay for the carbon cleaning, even if the intake is off for replacement.
@HumbleMechanic
@HumbleMechanic 9 жыл бұрын
kkthxk I personally would not. But I would be doing the job myself. IF you are paying, it may be worth it. I forget the cost of the manifold, but the labor overlap is almost 100%
@eakern

I get why one would not want to test each individual Manifold part ( Control arm @ runners, Solenoid,sensor,etc....) but it would it stand to reason that after replacing alot of manifolds that you would have those same spare parts after replacing alot of them and keeping those parts that are not at fault ? would it not save the labor of pulling off the whole manifold and just replacing with a used /new part ?
@HumbleMechanic
@HumbleMechanic 8 жыл бұрын
Possibly. But there is no way to warranty that. That is one thing about dealership repairs. They need to be able to warranty the work at any VW dealer. If I put a used part on, there is little way to tell the part will last.

If that swirl flap motor arm snaps, or the part pops out, is it guaranteed to pop an error or EML? Would it bring P2015 on a Skoda 2TSI?

Hi Charles! Thank you for the very informative and detailed video. 2012 vw Tiguan 2.0 TSI has check engine light. The first item you went over on you video has failed on my Tiguan, I can hear the huge air leak and as you mention their is a lot of outward movement where it attaches to the runners........Can I get away with just replacing the arm that attaches to the runners/manifold? Thanks in Advance!

On my 2012 VW GTI the arm that controls the flaps open and closed snapped in half cause the carbon build up was so horrendous and the motor was trying so hard it snap it and then snapped the flaps closed. fun stuff.

I ended up replacing the Air Intake Manifold to get rid of the check engine light, if it's ON it means something is up and i didn't want to cut corners. I'm not a mechanic but i did replaced the part myself, took me about 3 hours, and that includes the time i took to clean out the intake valves.

My Tiguan 2016 with 147000 has a p2015 intake manifold position sensor ( bank1 ), 2187 bank 1 system too lean at idle , p0300 multiple cylinder misfire detected , p301 misfire detected , P0507 idle control system RPM , p130A cylinder disabling . With check engine on and sometime blink. I already change the spark plug And the car start everyday in the morning to warmer up good with any shaking or weird sound. Also runs perfectly but when I scanned with VCDS show me all these fault codes . After a week I change the spark plug one day it stated to shaking and I turned off and turned on it work normal again. I know it has some issue but I don’t know what is it ???

Charles, new subscriber here(#1400 yay!) after seeing the collab with EE! i have some ideas for failed part videos: 1) 2.0 TDI BKD ASV failure (insanely expensive part) -in fact it's not only BKD, it fails all over the place- which shares fuse with radiator fan thus you end up overheating 2) porous head with microscopic cracks on early BKD which leaks coolant to the cylinder 3) 1.9 TDI US-spec (can't recall engine code) that has poor lube design for camshaft causing extreme wear 4) DMF failures on every DSG-equipped engine (had to change mine, rattled TOO much, another stupidly expensive part).

Congrats on being 1400, Thanks for subscribing. :) I will try and round up those things. TDI stuff is a little harder to come by than gas engines. I DO have a TDI balance shaft module that I will be doing a video on. That one will be a good one.

i got p2015 runner position sensor switci circuit range performance bank 1. I can see that it cannot be the arm on the side so im wondering if its just a sensor. Seems like it. I really dont want the whole manifold as obviously i should go for the kit with everything at that point and help ensure i dont have issue again as re using stuff is pointless if i have to have it all opened up again and stuff. Can you go over what the codes mean for p2015? as theres multiple things said for p2015.. it can be this or that. So like my specific one says bank1 i mean is it a sensor and which one would it be?at least for me it specifies bank1 so i feel its more diagnose-able and possibly bit easier fix if a sensor

@HumbleMechanic I have had the P2015 Code on for over 6 months now and didn't think much of it as I didn't any drive-ability issues with the car...... until it started getting cold out side (Below 45). For the first few minutes of driving the car will misfire and run rough. Once the engine gets up to optimal running temperature the hesitation goes away. Is that Intake Manifold Sensor Related or could that be the intake runner flaps being stuck by all the carbon deposits (my car has over 93,000 miles and I have yet to do a cleaning). I guess my real question is, could the intake flaps sticking cause a P2015 Code or am I short out of luck and I need to purchase a manifold. I'll be doing the carbon cleaning soon so it would make sense to replace the manifold while its off. Thanks again for the informative video.

My diagnostic said the manifold was bad then 1 week later the check engine light started flashing and now the car is literally almost un drivable due to rev surging and sputtering like symptoms, is this caused by the manifold most likely?
