They do not use birdhouses, but this was a great turning exercise and it looks small enough for a Hummingbird. Thus the name more of a decorative piece I’m training on the lathe, thanks so much for watching, and your kindness
@jarmstrong28434 жыл бұрын
I may be wrong on this, but based on my understanding, humming birds do not use bird houses and prefer their own nests. They are not cavity dwellers like many other birds. I have many humming birds in my yard and have yet to see them even remotely attracted to the numerous bird houses i have in my back yard. But, they sure like the feeders I put out.

Nice job! I love watching the humming birds at our feeder. I got one of the HF scroll saws and I've been playing around with it but it doesn't seem to cut real well. Trying to cut 1" x 6" pine boards left over from a firewood shed that built a few years ago. Any suggestions? using the HF blades. Thanks, Scott
@SterlingsWoodcrafts5 жыл бұрын
pine is a real soft wood the "gums" up a bit, try a skip tooth , maybe a #5 or #7 , that may help a bit, 1 inch is thick for the scroll saw, but doable , hope that helps

@@SterlingsWoodcrafts Thanks for the tips. I have a pretty busy schedule so it might be a while before I get time to try different blades or wood. I have some thinner hardwood from a pallet that I might try out next. Thanks again!

I would suggest not to put the perch on it. That would encourage house sparrows. Even if the house is too small for them (sparrows) they could use it for killing the hatchlings.

The more I study the hummingbirds life the more Im learning they dont go into a round or square nesting box. My question is why do you build them if the birds build a nest in the V Of a tree or bush? Is it just to sell a item you made. Id be upset if I bought a round or square humming bird bird house when they dont go inside.
@SterlingsWoodcrafts2 жыл бұрын
No ma’am, I don’t sell any items I make, it’s all learning, turning techniques, and having something neat to show from it. It is actually hanging in my kitchen as decor, not before any other purpose but to have a conversation piece

Sorry son..this won't work. The young hummingbirds will exercise their wings on the edge of the nest..taking turns..just before their first flight. This setup won't allow that. They are too weak to do it on your wood dowel perch. This will lead to their death.
