I LOVE that Simon’s repurposing what he can! I totally agree. Like he said about the kitchen cabinets, solid oak is expensive & lasts a long time. Kitchens & bathrooms are the most expensive rooms in a house to remodel/renovate. Also, reusing things, esp from the convent is in keeping with the age of the farmhouse. Shoe sugi ban is what we call the process of burning the wood to raise & seal the grain. It naturally preserves it. Makes it more water & rot proof.

Often furniture that is “repurposed” is better made than any furniture that is new. And I really like the colour. It suited the space. And a beautiful space it is! Regarding the bathroom, I wonder if you could increase the size of the mirror, so instead of splashing on wall board, the splashes would be on the mirror, there by protecting the wall without tiling. (I’ve don’t that in all of my bathrooms over the years; it works very well and you don’t have tiles that outdated) And no one could ever suggest you don’t accomplishing much!!!!! Never seen a harder working and happier team than on the Pletherick vlog!

Thanks for a peek at your life outside the convent. The farmhouse is going to be nice when it’s done BUT sometimes remodeling takes on a life of its own and a small project becomes a major undertaking in a hurry. Took Hunny and I 14+ years to remodel our retirement cottage because we too only had weekends. But time, patience and money gets us where we want to be. Looking forward to more visits down on Simons farm!!! Happy to see you back Billy and hope you and your Hunny had a great bit of down time!!!:):):)

Here in Australia we have Revolve recycling centres as well as Salvo and Vinnie's opp shops where you can donate (and buy) all manner of goods. There are also designated areas at the local tip/dump/ transfer station/dichetterie to put stuff like preloved houseware as well as building materials. People also often put unwanted goods at the kerb with a sign 'Free'; they usually disappear in a very short time. We also have certain times of the year when local councils ask you to put your assorted unwanted household stuff at the kerb for a collection day. Again a lot of things quickly migrate before collection to new homes from the OSR (off the side of the road) shop.

Such a point of difference to other channels, and you can see the genuine camaraderie that exists between them all. Apart from the obvious journey watching the progress of the convention (and chateau) restoration, these relationships contribute to the enjoyment. Simon and Yannis in particular cracked us up.
