Hundreds of PG&E customers without power in the East Bay

Over 5,000 PG&E customers were without power in the East Bay at one point Tuesday afternoon, and hundreds were waking up in the dark Wednesday morning. Bob Redell report.

I lost power for about 6 hours yesterday. Thankfully I have a generator to run the AC and fridge. Someone hit a pole and tool out electricity AND cable internet.

electricity going out 99% of the time has nothing to do with overloading and everything to do with risk of wildfire. PSPS are about shutting off the electricity due to wildfire risk, not electrical load. The grid isn't anywhere near overloaded.

Every year there are more & more solar panels & solar windmills installed. Mostly it’s old generators failing and PG&E avoiding wildfires since they got burned by numerous lawsuits for being at fault a few years ago. Also.., any homes that has solar panels on their roofs, they actually sell back their extra solar generation back to PG&E for a few cents/kwh, whereas PG&E will sell that electricity to you at full price. So the homeowners lowers their electricity bills, whereas PG&E uses less electricity from their grid.

Typical EV range nowadays is 200mi or more while most US drivers only drive 35mi a day so likely will have more than enough charge to ride it out. Charge at a charging station that has power or has onsite battery.
