I was born in America, but both of my parents were born in hungary. I've been to hungary 3 times, the most recent time for 2 months. I have a huge family over there. Yes, budapest is amazing. Especailly at night. The thermal baths are a must. Also, summer concerts and festivals. But my favorite place is lake balaton. A great way to see the country is by taking a boat ride down the Danube river. The food is extremely good. I hope you go someday. It is well worth your money and time. 🇭🇺

Lord of the Rings House = row of wine cellars in Hercegkút, Tokaj Wine Region
@VisitHungary5 жыл бұрын
Dear Brian, Thank you for watching and sharing our video, we are really glad you liked it and we were soo touched by your response! :) We'd like to answer all your questions you had while watching. - Waterfalls? Yes, we have some waterfalls, the one you saw here is the Hámori Waterfall in Lillafüred. It is the tallest waterfall in Hungary with a height of 20 metres. - Is it the traditional wear of Hungarians? - You were right about that point! You saw Hollókő and Great Plain scenes with traditional wears. The "skirt-like apron on the front-end" on men is part of the Hollókő wear, called szakácska. The black vest is typical as well. - Lord of the Rings place: Gombos-hegyi Cellars in Hercegkút, these are actually entrances of old wine cellars. Local wine is amazing, we recommend you to try it. - Big on spice: right, we are. This is red paprika powder, the "secret" ingredient of most of our dishes, there are both hot and mild versions. - The little mountain top place which you'd like to visit is the Castle of Boldogkő. - The globe is in Noszvaj, it is actually a rentable suite to spend the night under the forest sky. - You were right with the outdoor concerts: we have many popular festivals, the biggest one of them is Sziget. Check out the description, we have a detailed list of the video's locations with places all worth to visit. We can only agree with your idea visiting not only Budapest but more places in the country, Budapest is amazing but Hungary has so much more to offer beside the capital! You are always welcome in Hungary and a huuuge thank you again for picking our video! :)

WOW Hungary thank you so much for your kindness, and increíble way of documenting the beauty that is Hungary! ❤️ I appreciate you responding to several of my questions! 😄 Go figure! So it sounds like there is more than just one waterfall out in Hungary! It was cool to learn about the traditional wear and I had no idea that spice was used that often in your dishes 😆 Seems like I need to be careful or I’ll spend my trip near a bathroom! I would love to try out that outdoor globe experience. Looks so stunning! 😅 Amazing video and thank you so much for sharing with me and others the beautiful sights in Hungary! 🙌🏼 🇭🇺

There are a lot to see in Hungary, and the biggest mistake tourists does is that they just go to Budapest and misses out on the places just as beautiful as BP! There is our "sea" the lake Balaton (if you go there I recommend the northern, more mountainy part of it) There is the biggest point of Hungary, the 'Kékes tető', it's 1014m high, and very beautiful, There is the Hortobágy national park, in the biggest plains of Hungary, you will see a lot of the traditional costumes there, And also there are the cities of Pécs, Szeged, Debrecen, Sopron and more cityes where you can find loads of programs! And off course there are a lot more to see in Hungary, so if a Hungarian or someone who has been to Hungary reads this, please comment down your favourite place in this very beautiful country! :)

That globe was Hévíz. Thermal lake city. Hungary is especially rich in underground thermal water and thermal bathes. Also Hungary has a lot of mountains worth to hike besides the Hungarian Great Plains which i have just recently visited. The most iconic place in the Plains is Hortobágy and it's National Park (in the video, the folks were there in blue traditional clothing with whips abd horses.) From Hortobágy, you can see the Milky-way at night, no light pollution at all. Worth to do a google search on "hortobagy night sky". There is a long distance hiking trail called the "országos kéktúra" (national blue trail of Hungary) which is a 1160km long, which goes across the country. It is also part of the "országos kékkör“ national blue circle of Hungary. The blue circle goes around Hungary (more than 2400 km). The purpose of the trail is to demonstrate Hungary's tradition and its face. Really love my country. Greetings from Hungary 🇭🇺!

I think explaining Hungarian folk dresses is really difficult because in the country every part has their own costumes and their own traditions but these varying from village to village. Hungarian folk culture is really rich. Every part has its own music, dress, and traditions. I really like the costume of Slavonia (that was a part of great Hungary, now it is in Croatia), Kalotaszeg ( now it is in Transilvania), and the costumes from Somogy. If you are interested in our folk culture I think it's a great idea to watch some Felszálott páva videos. These videos are from a talent show for Hungarian folk dancers, singers and musicians. In these videos you can see different Hungarian folk dances, costumes and also you can listen to our folk music. I hope I could help you. :)

I spent two weeks in 2018 visiting friends in Somogy and Baranya provinces in the southwest of Hungary. I stayed in Pécs, the 5th largest city. It’s in the Mecsek Hills so lots of rolling landscapes, kinda like western Kentucky or West Virginia. Lots of history in Pécs but also very modern. I also spent a day in Villány, the wine region which has many of those “Lord of the Rings” houses (they’re wine cellars). Being a Midwest farm girl, I loved the wide open spaces and agrarian countryside. I’m hoping to go back in August 2020 for the Kurultaj festival in Bugac which is a gathering of nomadic cultures from Europe and Asia. Also visit Lake Balaton which is about an hour drive from Pécs

Though this video about the landscape of Hungary is primarily an internationally well-aimed tourism pr-stuff, the imagery and the athmosphere is absolutely fantastic. It melted my heart :) Imho Hungary belongs to those countries that have the most beautiful landscape in the world. It is a small and pure gem. E.g. Lake Balaton with its hilly surroundings, or the mountains of the North-eastern or the South-western part of the country. The Great Plain with its vastness and its flora and fauna. I love these so much :) Thanks for the video, Brian! :) Greetings from Hungary :) If you can visit Hungary one day, i'm sure you'll be welcome :)

This is a traditional town and they usually wear this clothes on Easter and they sprinkle a full bucket of water to the girls :) But you could see so many places in this video such as Lake Balaton where they usually organise Balaton Sound Festival and you could see the biggest festival in Hungary, which name is Sziget. We have lot of beautiful places. I advise you Eger (you can see there our historical castle from Turkish time), Tihany (It's near to Balaton and you can see there the Abbey of Tihany and lot of beautiful hill around it) Esztergom (The Pope was living there some hundreds years before when we had kings) or Székesfehérvár (Home of Kings crown) but here are so many beautiful places in Hungary. Man, you’d LOOOVE Hungarian food. You should def go and see my beautiful country. 😊 If you’re there don’t just visit Budapest. Hortobagy is part of the country that is a must see, especially if you like horses. Btw the apron is part of the traditional folk wear, not sure which region though.

Weöres Sándor: Himnusz a naphoz. I learned it. It's a really beautiful creation. And traditional outfits are different in many places. And a video about Famous persons in Hungary? Like Sándor Petőfi, King Matthias / Mátyás király and many others.

The place you said you want to visit is Boldogkő castle, in Boldogkőváralja^^ it's an amazing place, i lived near there in my childhood, so i was there a lot of times, but i can't get enough of it^^ And Hungary has a lot of "mountains", they're not that high, the highest is 1014 meters, but everything is beautiful here^^ I hope you can visit our country^^

I really hope you come to Hungary, and check out our beautiful country in person. Hungary has so much to offer. Budapest of course is worth a visit, but also the countryside has lots of beautiful places. You are always welcome! 😊 Ohh, and the scene with the traditional cloting is in Hollókő, not so far from Budapest, definitely worth to go there.

There are mountains here in the north, but they are not very tall. The tallest one is the Mátra, where the highest point (Kékes) is at 3,330ft. The south is famously flat. If you'd like to go hiking in the mountains, I recommend you go either to the Mátra or the Bükk.

Brian, while in Hungary, you should definitely visit the Archabbey of Pannonhalma. It's shown in the video: a 1000 years old Benedictine Abbey with a mediaveal church and a classical library. And it is on a hilltop. Cheers!

If you would go to Hungary don't spend much time in Budapest. Go to real Hungary, to the country!

You were completly right about the traditional clothes. We have quite a few different types of them, but it mostly consists of a white shirt and a west with dark or white trousers with an apron in some villages and boots (or at some places simple black leather shoes). The dark pants are looser on top and tight around the calves to fit into the boots and they are mostly made of wool and the white pants look a bit like skirts because they are really loose and they are tied around the waist. The white pants are also shorter and they are made of linen. Women usually wear a white or colorful shorsleeved or longsleeved blouse that can be tucked is or out and really simple or with lots of pattern on it and they sometimes wear a west or scarf over the blouse. Young girls wear their hari braided with ribbons, older girls wear it braided and pinned up and married women wear it under a scarf. They mostly wear white underskirts and a colorful skirt on top also with an apron. They can wear either boots or leather shoes. They also wear big necklaces. I hope that you csn once come to Hungary. We have a Folk Museum and folkdance is very popular here so you could even see these dances and clothes live. The tradition they were showing in these lips is the sprinkling on Easter Monday. It basically consists of the boys and men pouring buckets of water on girls and women.
