Great job, congratulations! Exceptional detail. The only thing I would add is that Pal Dardai actually revolutionised the team, media and supporters. He changed the team philosophy and brought his 10+ years of experience from Germany and the reason he didnt stay was he actually was coaching Hertha Berlin at the same time and his club wanted his full attention. Storck took a built team and added his experience but Dardai was the one that shifted everything and I would give him more credit than Storck. Thanks again!🇭🇺👍🏻

I just saw this, awesome research, very well done! A few fun facts if you're interested: - Pál Dárdai only left the National Team because he was also the head coach of Hertha BSC and was not allowed to continue working at both jobs - 3:35 it was also a very emotional game baceuse Márton Fülöp died that day due to cancer and it was kind of a victory for him in Oslo. The Hungarian commentator even said when Norway hit the crossbar that it was Fülöp from above... it was very emotional - Some of the players claim Ronaldo was whispering them, a draw would see both teams through the group phase. Ákos Elek hit the post after 3-3, if it was to go in, Portugal would have been knocked out. Furthermore Albania was super upset, because the last 5-10 minutes was laughable (both teams were passing between the defenders without any pressure from the opponents

So I was there at the match against Iceland, and it was wild! Thousands were marching through Marseille with Hungarian flags singing under our hotel window. Then, the match against Portugal, we were sitting at the beach and I remember that everyone was rooting for the underdog Hungary. People from all over the world cheering for my country, that was a very nice moment...

A little additional that we give credit for all rising for PÁL DÁRDAI, who changed many things with his 20 years bundesliga experience and another secret was in 2016 that the team were spending together more than 6 weeks before the tournament when they had time practicing together and the players started to believe in themselves.

I was in Budapest when they played Iceland. The whole place absolutely erupted after the late own goal, I've never seen anything like it. Flares, massive processions of people down the street all evening, it was fantastic. Hungary's a great football nation and doing well at Euro 2016 felt like a collective release. Hope they can kick on and reach a World Cup in the next few years or so.

I think you could have mentioned the so called "manager waltz" while explaining why we were so shit during the 90's and 00's. It means that the managers of our national teams were generally inexperienced on a bigger stage (often won the national league and/or the Hungarian Cup but that was it - they always lost in the first qualifiers of the CL / UEFA Cup [later called Europa League]). And after their failure as national team coaches they normally went back to a Hungarian side pretending that nothing happened and it was acceptable to lose 2-1 to Malta or 8-1 to Netherlands (you only picked the two most embarassing results but later on we actually drew with Andorra and lost to Luxembourg too). So these guys just waltzed between Hungarian clubs and the national team, while their lack of success on the international stage was never taken into account. And nepotism was rife too so you were right about that too :D Otherwise a very good summary, well done!

I have to mention this: after the save, that you have been mentiond, Király played with broken finger.

And they did very good in this 2021 euro even without their best player Szoboszlai. Actually they have their prime minister Victor Orban to thank for their current success. A lot of focus was brought onto Hungarian football since he became prime minister. Many stadiums and academies were built and the whole structure of their football was rebuilt from the ground up. They have very many promising young players and coaches emerging and of course their current coach is amazing (Marco Rossi). Hungary were 11 games undefeated before the game vs Portugal and then they tied both France and Germany, which they could have even won with some luck. Also not forgetting to mention in that 11 game unbeaten streak right before the 2020 euros, they came first place in the Nations Leauge group of death beating Serbia Turkey and tieing Russia, gaining promotion to League A and this result will probably also guarantee them World Cup play offs if they don’t qualify directly through the qualifying group. The future looks very bright for Hungarian football and the once great footballing nation will once again become great, which I believe they already are. Not sure if they can ever be as good as the Puskas era was in the 50’s but to become a nation that regularly qualify again and a nation that can get to for example the round of 16 or quarter finals is also amazing. Oh and just one last point, it actually wasn’t fully Berne Storck who made Hungary great for that 2016 Euro, it was Pak Dardai who brought in that mentality, created that team and put that all together. There is a video documentary on it actually. The thing is he guided Hungary to the playoffs, but had to decide to keep coaching or to return to coach Hertha Berlin in the bundasliga. Been Storck and Dardai knew each other very well from when Dardai used to play in the bundasliga. They both had the same mentality however and Storck just continued what Dardai built.
