Look at how Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElenney have taken over Chesters huge rival Wrexham. They hired people who have experience in football and let them deal with the club instead of deluding themselves into thinking they had any business coaching the club. Terry Smith was absolutely insane and thought way too much of himself.
@lostinthejungle3917 Жыл бұрын
Lol they did it to make money and a show. Their names being attached in a post-Ted Lasso world was a guaranteed draw and networks were happy to pay whatever necessary. Hardly comparable to a random person buying a team out of foreclosure - where's that money gonna come from to hire those good coaches and top talent?
@lostinthejungle3917 Жыл бұрын
@Rest in peace bro nah. Rich movie stars (and Ryan Reynolds even richer from his mobile service investments) buying a team post-Lasso and hiring quality staff can’t be compared to a random person buying a club that was bankrupt and no one wanted in the 90s. Obviously Ryan and Rob can afford to lose money (which they never would have anyone because they immediately turned it into a post-Lasso TV show). A random person buying a failing club before all this international fanfare couldn’t afford to lose nearly as much staffing the club.

As a fan of a lower league club, the terry smith saga pisses me off beyond belief, in the lower tiers, a club can fold with as little as 2 weeks notice. Clubs like Bolton and Oldham have narrowly avoided the same fate as Chester, and clubs like Colchester are currently going through it. Not to mention clubs like Bury have also been torn apart due to similar things, but not only are the deluded and to put it simply shit owners the issue, so is the efl, the efl is terrible at looking after their clubs.

my great uncle is the honorary president of the club, during the Smith era he was chairman of the supporters board but was banned from the stadium by Smith due to speaking out against him. He managed to get into a game, and during half time fans chanted “stand up if your names Barrie Hipkiss” and got a standing ovation. I was 15ish at the time and did my work experience as a youth coach, I had to cycle through a picket daily, strange times

£26,000 - less than half the average weekly salary of any given Premier League player - was the debt that saw Chester City wound up in 2010. That sentence alone is the key to understanding all that is wrong with football in this country, and probably most others too.

Seriously, all relationships are changed? In addition, Barrow approached Smith at the start of the season, and asked him to watch the first half of every Chester match from up in the stands as a scout would, and then report what he saw to Barrow at halftime while Barrow was walking from the pitch to the dressing room. This good working relationship between them continued throughout the season.

"I don't think you've heard this story yet" I'm actually one of only 40 thousand who watched the KZbin doc lol So yeh I have heard it, but I've watch ALL these football documentaries on YT and beyond. I LOVE THEM! I can't get enough of them and sadly there are a tiny amount. I've watched them multiple times at this point too. The godfather of them all of course is The Impossible Job with Graham Taylor. The funniest and most ridiculous is the Big Ron Manager on at Peterborough where big Ron's trying to get the IDIOT horrible manager to stop long ball and play football on the ground... after a loss trying to play that way he screams at his players "3-4-3 LONG BALL!" almost like a punishment. Fucking hell we have to go back to that shit. It's funny af. The manager quits in the dressing room then comes back with his tail between his legs as he realizes he has a mortgage and needs the job. It's HILARIOUS. He sent them to a factory you know like how Mourinho did? But they were MILLIONNAIRES who didn't really know what proper jobs entailed etc. and Jose's like look how lucky you are etc. This cock sent these lads who KNEW exactly what working in a factory was like etc. they're not rich AT ALL and are working class af. They were bored af and thought it was a joke. And he said "When Jose Mourinho does it he's a genius" 🤦♂️🤣🤣🤣 Like he thought he could just copy it and have the same results. JUST WATCH IT! And then there's the Leyton Orient one...fucking hell! They're ALL fucking brilliant and ultra fascinating and David Brentish in a way that All or Nothing just isn't. All or Nothing Barnsley anyone? Where they've appointed a manager NO FUCKER has ever heard of Poya Asbaghi an Iranian born Swedish under 21 coach. It's the PERFECT formula!
