Hungover Intern Ruined My 5 Year Anniversary Employee Achievement (Workplace Story)

After 5 years of dependable service the only thing I got from my employer was the story for this video! I could care less about the approval or recognition from others but it was the principle of the situation that bothered me. The company was so cheap they wouldn't even consider splurging for a $25 gift card even though they make millions a year. Knowing what kind of people work in that office I'm not surprised. After I mentioned it to the manager she quickly brushed this mistake under the rug by telling me she would look into it. This experience again proved the point that you can't trust any employer because you are just another number.

16 years with a Fortune 200 here, but just my opinion. Only bring that up if/when you have a chance to someone higher on the chain - even better: have one of those ‘same day’ allies bring it up nonchalantly to the higher level person. Iow, don’t approach for this topic alone and even better to mention it on one of those rare days (weeks/months) later when the higher level person is accompanying one of those walk-thrus.
