Bikepacking The Hunt 1000 | Melbourne to Canberra | Highlights 2023

In 2016, Dan Hunt unleashed the Hunt 1000 - a yearly bikepacking adventure from Melbourne to Canberra, slicing through Australia's high country. Changing campsites, alpine huts, and challenges like hike-a-bike and river crossings keep it fresh.
Through Kosciuszko, Alpine, and Namadgi National Parks, riders dive into Australia's alpine wilderness. Mixing fire trails, alpine paths, gravel tracks, and country roads, the route offers a challenge as diverse as the alpine weather. Back roads bring solitude, small towns bring friendly chats.
Riders aim for a grand finish in Canberra on December 2, 2023. It's an adventure, not a race - your departure date is up to you. The shared goal? Reaching Canberra and toasting with fellow riders on that epic Saturday. Cheers to diverse trails and camaraderie! 🚴‍♂️✨

No, thankfully we took Tom Groggin to Thredbo from Omeo direction. Even that was tough enough :)

Hi Graeme, this is the Australian Hunt 1000 route that starts in Melbourne and finishes in Canberra. It’s a 1000km bike packing ride through the high country. Highly recommend 👍
