Great trip I need to get to that area at some point. Thanks for sharing it.

Nice! The one time I did Hunter in deep winter it was completely socked in at the fire tower and Geiger Point. The John Robb lean-to was below the clouds, though. "Very snowy up here" - hah! Sometimes you get a 5-6 foot snowpack up there. I neverr hiked the Colonel's Chair spur. Every time I've done the Hunter loop, I've done either Southwest or Rusk or both. You can check out the Diamond Notch lean-to when you do West Kill. West Kill has a gorgeous view just below the summit on the east side. I bring full gear for almost all my winter day trips. Otherwise it's too likely that a sprained ankle will mean freezing to death. Try Echo Lake for a nice easy camping trip.

The devils acre leanto hammock spots are before you hit the devils acre shelter on the other side of the trail. Also plenty of great spots on that s/w Hunter spur. That was a fun trip. Plus no mud by Geiger point so that’s a win ! I have a video at John robb where it was so windy the tarp welded to my hammock lol. It’s often windy there

What month is this? Doesn't seem very wintery for the Catskills?

This was a very bright winter day in early January. I was also there in early December and it seemed like there was actually more snow then. Temps were in the 20's both times. But yeah, a relatively mild for winter the Catskills.
