I think it sucks how Hunter handled Yael's gender identity. I agree with Yael; it sucks that when you enter a romantic relationship with someone, it can be more difficult to communicate with them than it was as friends. But you're right; both of them seemed to lack the communication skills, just what Yael feared. I do hope that they are at least friends, because I find them interesting, both together and as separate characters.

But at the same time it's not okay to force someone into liking something they dont. LGBT community mainly stands for love who you want, be who you want. Hunter just seems to like girls. It's not disgusting or mean of him. He just likes what he likes. We cant force people to be attracted to someone they are not. Yael would just find someone who likes them. Hunter wasnt the one.

The problem is less that Hunter isn't in to a non binary person. It's more how he reacts to Yael after coming out. He put distance between him and them, and doesn't seem open to understanding them. He's viewing Yael's gender identity solely in terms of the effects it has on himself. Not only that, but he literally asks why they "did this". As though Yael chose not to be a girl.

@@NotAVampyre actually no yael is the one who did that. He said he didn’t want a relationship and then punished him for it when she’s the one who changed not him.

I personally want Hunter and Yael to at least be close still. I never really cared too much about their relationship until Yael’s season 4 plot. I’m interested to see where the writers take these characters.

You know I actually always shipped Lola and Hunter, I was really upset when they paired her with Miles when Hunter was legit right there. Even after Hunter and Yale started dating I still wanted him with Lola.

I was happy they broke up. I liked them better as friends. And I would rather see Hunter with Lola (I’m a sucker for opposites attract ships) and an asexual storyline for Yeal. Idk why but every-time Yeal was on the screen I always got a possible asexual vibe from them. It’s a perfect story for them imho.

With him loving Yael so much, I was really surprised that he wasn't more supportive of them. Despite how he acted before going through treatment, he felt like someone who would support Yael no matter what the situation.

I think he was too stuck in how Yael not being a girl affected him, specifically does it make him gay or straight or neither? He likes girls, so liking Yael as a not girl made him very uncomfortable because he was very attached to that.

I'm not sure even that's the case because he still seemed to want to be around them like he was before, but was confused what that made him. He was scared of not being seen as straight if he still dated Yael.

They’re VERY sexist. They say a lot of misogynistic things to Yael. I’m surprised Vijay goes along with that behavior because in a lot of instances, gay men get treated the way they treated Yael. They could have said the same like “oh vjay you suck at games because you’re gay and like girly stuff” get what I’m trying to say? That’s just an example.

I think that Hunter went the wrong way. At the same time discovering your sexuality and a "change" in your partner. Quotation marks as Yael was always non binary but neither of them knew and I lack a better word for it. Anyways even if you love that person it can make you question yourself. So I understand Hunter from that pov but that doesnt excuse the way he reacted as theres better ways to deal with these things.

i personally am for labels as someone who struggled as a kid and teen of who i was and my personality and from adhd/aspergers, having a label can be helpful and understanding of who u are, but at the same time i sometimes felt i never felt under the umbrella of some labels because i felt i was part of multiple "labels" for example as a teen i was goth but not goth enough to be in the goth clique and such. so now i consider myself eclectic in multiple aspects, such as faith and style

I think the biggest downfall with how people think of labels is when they think they have to "pick one". People are complicated and don't fit neatly into single boxes.

I felt like the show shitted all over Hunter''s character to push the narrative "White man bad" he always gets the short end of the stick and with no one caring about how he feels and he wants doesn't matter.
@NotAVampyre
@NotAVampyre 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think I understand why you feel that because Miles often has to repent and make up for ignoring him. He did it at least twice in the span of seasons 14- NC 2. It's not so much that "white man bad", but instead that Hunter has some underlying, unaddressed issues that cause him to react the way he does. It's not all that he feels ignored because he still went as far as to hurt himself when Miles was just talking to Tristan. Hunter is a story of recovering and backing away from the edge successfully. Learning to find other people's lives valuable and how to respond to adversity. The show needed to force him into a corner to make his depression and anger come to a head, and to express that even though Hunter had legitimately good arguments for the gaming club his anger prevented him from arguing his case properly.

@@NotAVampyre Hunter is always left to feel like the bad guy. In almost every scenario ,it's always him that's seen as in the wrong and his character is constantly punished and given very little which again he loses. (Now it's been a very long time since I've seen the show so I have to rewatch it) but at the end, he's kinda left with less than what he started with. All because he wasn't allowed to express or explore his sexuality and because he questioned Yael's.
@NotAVampyre
@NotAVampyre 4 жыл бұрын
I urge you to rewatch Hunter related parts because it's not like he did no wrong. As for him and Yael, no one sat down to discuss Hunter's big issues or explain why Yael can't "just be a girl". He focuses all on what dating Yael made him, and Baaz and Vijay took that to mean he's nb phobic. Instead, he was caught up on labels, which one could argue is rather selfish of him since he let it hurt Yael. On the other side though, he also made no effort to do his own research on people like Yael. He instead just left it as he and Yael don't talk. He didn't try to understand on his own til Frankie made he remember he still likes Yael. It's much more complicated than everyone attacking Hunter
@AW3SOM3

@@NotAVampyre I'm not saying Hunter didn't go overboard because he did. What he did was wrong and has a lot of internalize issues with properly acknowledging, verbalizing and confronting his frustrations. And I don't have a problem with a character like that. My problem is in the way the story is presented and told. Degrassi has always been a hot button topic conversation starter(reason why I always loved the franchise) but it also presented both sides of an argument and try it's best not to demonize the characters but more their actions. That starts to change around season 13 or so. More it's not more prevalent in the way with the storylines involving Hunter. Take the first season, Hunter is presented as rash with uncontrolled rage. He's very passionate and the passion is used in a very destructive way. How look at how Goldi and her feminist group is present, as calm, rational and clearly in the right. Goldi's side is allowed to be heard and Hunter's side is not. Hunter is wrong and crosses the line. But there's no conversation.

Honestly Next Class shitted on a lot of things and a lot of characters. Next Generation will always be my favorite out of the two and I kind of really don’t like Next Class. It just seemed like they tried really hard to make the show about pointless sjw plots and victimizing Maya over and over again. I’m honestly kind of glad Next Class is over, they really ruined everything the show was.

i personally feel hunter got the short end of the stick here, its one thing to be understanding and accepting of someones gender identity and another to be forced to be with them and compromise their own, as he said hes straight and likes girls and thats ok, but that is something that needed to be discussed early on when it comes to gender identity.

It wasn't that people were forcing him to stay with Yael. They were being hostile towards him because of how he seemed to distance himself from Yael and responded to her coming out with insensitivity. He was confused and uneducated, but instead of asking questions, he just noped out of being around Yael and commented on the changes to them with disrespect, like when he insisted Yael can't use they/them for pronouns. He also seemed to take Yael not being a girl as a sort of insult to himself because Hunter was attached to the idea of "i like girls". He seemed almost offended by the idea of him maybe still liking them. If he responded respectfully, things would have gone down differently I think. He didn't have to remain dating Yael, but the least he could have done was try to understand before walking away from their friendship.

Yeah the communication wasn't there or I could see it maybe working out. I'm trans, my ex was *not* gay and made that a point when I said I wanted surgeries eventually but he was fine *hypothetically being considered gay* so idk. My girlfriend on the other hand, both of us are nonbinary and intersex and trans. No matter what my girlfriend identifies as, I'm attracted to them as the person they are. My indentity, my label doesn't change unless I realize anything different. My ex was homophobic and transphobic (refused to use the right pronouns irl or call me by my chosen name) and his friends these days think he's a good, wholesome guy when he isn't 😅
