I wish we got more of a character arc than just “I don’t like jumping on trampoline because boobs”>>“look I wear a binder now and took my wig off” 😭 they could’ve given one of Maya’s 900 storylines to them or have us learn about their interests or home life or something.

Overall, I enjoyed Yael as a character. I think they had some nice spunky and heartfelt moments and I loved the friendship between them and Lola. If I did have one gripe with the character, it’s that I wish they’d been a bit more understanding of Hunter’s point of view once they established themselves as gender neutral. I completely get them being hurt and not viewing their coming out as a big deal because they were still the same person on the inside. I also don’t like how Hunter blamed Yael for ruining things between them and saying Yael “wasn’t normal.” That wasn’t cool. But as someone who’s been in a very similar situation, it’s very hard to hear people say “you should just love the person, not the gender.” While that’s a lovely sentiment, it’s rarely that simple and I don’t think someone should be chastised for whomever they want to date, whether they’re gay, straight, bi, etc. Granted, that may be more of a script issue than a character issue. Overall, Yael’s a fine character in my book.

i spend a lot of time on the subreddit and there's very little opinion about yael in general; most of that fanbase only watched next class once or not at at all and didn't like it, so yael rarely ever gets mentioned. i think the misgendering is people just forgetting anything about the character. i've never seen any negative sentiment towards them though, or if it is it's just couched in "next class bad".

I think they're a decent character and parts of their non-binary story line was done well, but they were underutilized, so it was hard for me to truly get invested. Also the wig.

I was cool with Yael after they stopped wearing that horrible wig and came out of the closet. And as someone who started out watching Degrassi Jr. High in the mid-1980's, I think Next Class is a humongous drop in quality, from a writing standpoint. Maya, Miles, and Tristan were insufferable. Calling a Black character Tiny Bell was idiotic, and making him caught up with gang violence was racist as hell. Although it was funny when Tristan said, "Sayonara, Miles Hollingsworth".😂

you know with next class i just didn't that we went from 40 episodes to only 10 it didn't feel like enough time to cover all these characters my sister sometimes says she thinks for some series 22-23 episodes is too much and sometimes uncessary and for some shows shes right but for next class i think we needed more

why'd Yael wearing the wig affect how likable they were?

I loved Yael a lot, was one of my favs pre-bomb threat. Having them go through a beautiful plot about trust and self acceptance only to pull that big racist stunt to Saad immediately after kinda makes it seem like they learnt nothing. Yael getting so much support only to do that rubbed me the wrong way. That being said, I haven't watched NC in years, perhaps maybe i'll feel differently next watch! The non-binary plot was well done overall though!

I like Yael. Nothing wrong with the wig, it was fun. I wish their storyline could have continued, and explored their journey as they embraced their nonbinary gender identity.
