Isaak Costa idk because I was contemplating the same thing. I could justify either way tbh because if you take him the argument is he wasn’t gonna get very far considering he just walked up on a hunter, then you can also say well it’s not very sporting to take it. I think these are moments where it’s up to the hunter. If he was hunting to feed his family I think even he might have taken that deer because it’s not everyday dinner comes to you. But if this is his deer hunt for the year and he’s trying to have fun and get a buck I understand letting him pass for a more typical fun shot later in the season. Archery has a ridiculously long season so this is probably one of those time where you’d handle it differently if you’re in the last week of the season without filling your tags vs the middle and the beginning

That deer definitely took a hard blow to the head recently. This is what I noticed: When he speaks, it listens towards its left rear. So its directional sense of where sound is coming from is really messed up. It's also oblivious to him poking it and tapping its antler, which means it basically has zero sense of touch. It's also as if it doesn't actually see him, like it's completely blind, at least on its right eye. (the left part of the brain is connected to the right eye, and vice versa). The vision on the left eye is probably really bad from the blow and swelling. In the end, it does sense him nearby somehow, right when it turns its left eye towards him. Very clear case of brain damage.
@dontneedtoknow58364 жыл бұрын

I had the same thing happen to me in the 2015-2016 season with a small 6 point buck. I was sitting on a five gallon bucket on the edge of a field and he walked right up to me. I kept thinking any moment he’s going to realize I’m sitting here and take off but he kept coming closer. It’s a mixed feeling off excitement, disbelief and fear. I realized I had a bottle of doe in estrous in my jacket pocket and he was intentionally moving in my direction because of the scent. He walked up to me and because I was sitting on a bucket it put us eye to eye, he sniffed my jacket and began to move to the back of me and that’s when I elbowed him in the jaw go get him to back off. He never did spook and run. I threw my elbow at him a few times and he slowly walked away and worked his way down the edge of the field out of sight. I believe that buck was gonna mount me cause he thought I was a doe! Hahaha.. Crazy experience. It’s weird how a deer would behave that way when most deer spook and run at the sight of a human even at long distance.

I walked up to it and could notice that shedding hair around it's eyes and sores on the side of it's head. Called the local game warden and he came out and we quickly found it dead the next day. He took a sample but was convinced it was EHD. Saw a buck later that month acting the same.

This buck clearly has an abscess above the left eye/cranium. Very plausible from injury. He could also have what is known as a meningeal worm creating a meningitis and a draining intracranial abscess, though he seems to have intact motor and CNS function. Ok if their brains are wired the human brains are (Left side for right side senses and muscles and vice-versa) - His left side of brain may have been damaged including his sight. That would mean he was blind in his right eye from the left brain injury. I noticed that as soon as he turned his head far enough to see you he took off. That would even affect the sense of feeling from the antlers. Just a guess but it makes sense to me and would explain how he walked up and never appeared to see you until he turned. Maybe even his sense of smell depending on the wind direction.
