And a silver medalist as well. Wayne Pinnock of Jamaica won the silver in the men's long jump. Added to that 19 y.o. Jaydon Hibbert finished 4th in the men's triple jump. Altogether IIRC their coach was at the Olympics\Paralympics with 8 athletes and 3 came home with gold\silver\bronze medals.

Hunter Woodhall's success needs more attention and the same thing should happen to all Paralympians! It's a shame that the views during the Paralympics competitions on TV are lower than the Olympic Games. Paralympians like Hunter are big inspirations too!

In the US it was harder to view. If I didn’t have a kid that wakes me up early, I would’ve missed all of wheelchair rugby. The Olympics has prime time coverage on NBC. That being said, there apparently was a record amount of media coverage & distribution contracts signed globally- so, it’s getting better.

Okay, I didn’t think I would cry watching this, but I did. Congratulations Hunter on your medals! Thanks for showing the behind the scenes and the Relay ceremony. I love that you honored your mom and dad by showing them. As the mom of a child who struggled with finding his place when he was navigating Dyslexia and growing up with a brother with Cerebral Palsy, it is a wonderful feeling to know that through the tears, fears and obstacles, they have done something even beyond their wildest dreams. So glad to see Paralympic champions getting their due. I was in Atlanta when Billy Payne and the AIOC refused to bid for the Paralympics and the disability community banded together to bring the Paralympics to Atlanta. The head of the IOC then went and changed the by-laws so they were no longer bid for separately, Since 1996 any host city bidding for one is automatically bidding for both and planning for both. I was born with a disability at a time when society didn't recognize its disability community as existing. It wasn't until the late 80's and 70's that things began to change. Had to become my own advocate to guarantee my rights because there was no one to advocate for me.

I had no idea about this history. Thank you for sharing. I remember the ‘86 Olympics, but didn’t hear about the Paralympics until 2004 - likely because I happened to be in Athens during the games. I was shocked to find out these games existed, but I’d never heard of them until I was an adult.

The Phryges is based on the Phrygian cap. During the European classical age the Phrygian cap was worn by emancipated slaves (Freedmen).
