Pretty sure the “over the top” comic book type aesthetic the show had was intentional. There were *numerous* comic book references throughout the show; some of which were actually relevant to the plot
@gethcreator7514 жыл бұрын
It is intentional, it's based off a comic
@VigitoriozZ4 жыл бұрын
Apart from that there is also the narrative that Jonah is literally still a kid who daydreams (the skit of the Hunt's introduction for example) about caped heroes and doing the right thing does not consist of glorious heroic acts which he also learns in the show. What I'm trying to say is, that I think it's also about Jonah learning that and deconstructing his view of the world thus far. But I agree with you. The aesthetic is not chosen in order to harvest the super hero hype that's still going on even after Endgame, which was arguably the pinnacle (not talking about quality here, that's up to debate) of live action comic books.
@michaelaforeman33934 жыл бұрын
Doesnt matter if it's supposed to reflect a comic book, comic book doesn't always translate well into movies, especially given the times we live in. That's why Batman and Robin was a joke, in comics it worked, on the screen it was a flop. Thats why modern day comic book movies have been altered to reflect current themes, it's why the dark Knight saga was so successful. Same with this show, what may have been great on paper in a comic book may not be on screen, it was a confused mess of a show, plot holes galore, subject matter and themes all over the place, mood coudlnt be established Its clear there was multiple writers who had different intentions and focus and there was studio interference to make it approachable by a variety of audiences The tone is all over the place. I think given the sensitive subject matter, a darker dark Knight tone would of suited this series, rather than hyper real. I enjoyed moments of it but it was just too over the place to sit back and get fully immersed. Pick your tone and stick to it

Renaud Lemieux it isn’t solely drama nor solely comedy, but there are certainly a lot of comedic relieves spread throughout the episodes, not only by characters like booty and lonny flash, but also the clearly unrealistic game shows. It’s mostly dramatic but very balanced in terms of comedy, which is definitely apparent and over the top at times, but that’s what they went for.

Despite this, he is completely ok at the start of episode 8, which occurs in the exact same night. No sign of injury or anything. I thought this series was so close to being perfect. The only fault I have with it was the twist in the last episode. Thought the first three episodes had such an uneven tone, with sadistic torture one moment followed by camp song and dance the next. It got better as it toned everything down and shoed some restraint in the middle act. The last 3 episodes were way over the top with twist after twist. Not a terrible show but better when it dials it back imo.

If ruth had her and Meyers baby right after she was freed then she would've been born in 1945 at the least. So how would that work cuz she would've been 13 when she had Jonah? well i just binged this series as you did, maybe im crazy too, and hopped on to find a review on the ol yt, maybe a bit surprised to find only yours..anyway, i can agree with what you said and see where you come from here but i personally loved the whole arc they set up in these 10 long ass episodes... i get that some bits were too long but i thought it really helped flesh out all the characters and get us involved in all their personal emotional journeys that tied back at the end. i get that the comedic bits in between might have broken up the story and overall theme of the show but i think thats precisely why they were put in and i personally loved it. they went with this in ways i was not expecting at all and was pleasantly surprised with the ending. overall i was highly impressed with it and it left me longing for more, which is what i always want from good highly anticipated shows.. i recommend this to anyone interested in high level over-the-top crazy action and plotting with a good story arc that sets you up wanting for a season 2, and of course watching a bunch a nazis getting hunted down and shot up lol. id give this show a solid 8.25/10.

It is good but, I lost interest in it through the episodes which is why I love review's just Incase I missed something. I was happy that the show didn't focus on relationships and sex every episode but, I wanted more of a background on characters like Millie and the other chick with the afro. It was like some scenes intrigued me and others bored me or my attention went in and out of the series. I cut it off by season 2 on the last two episodes 🙄💭💬 Love the honesty of the show like everyone can't fight; Millie the FBI agent and the kid Jonah or "J" just runs from away at times or he freezes when someone is unlived in front of him🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ in the beginning S1
@EbonyPenmarks4 жыл бұрын
7/10 The show has a lot of good stuff. I think the central arc with Jonah, Ruth and Meyer was very good. I agree with Austin that we don't get a lot of the other characters. Even though the "goofiness" is a popular critique of the show, it didn't feel goofy because most of the characters are too stoic. The writing needs to reel out the pathos out of these characters. If the cast had comedic energy, I think the Tarantino comic book style would have worked. The comic book styling doesn't work when Roxy, Joe and Harriet are too serious all the time. The character I didn't like was Morris because she couldn't lend her personal stakes into the case. The twist was provocative and made the themes stronger.

I woke up at 7:00am and binged watched it all day. I was actually really great show. I do feel like they didn’t establish the characters enough. I’m just so used to a show digging more into a character’s backstory that it threw me off a bit when I couldn’t really figure out everybody’s real motivations behind joining the group. Looking foreword to a second season that’s where a lot of shows get their groove. NOT READY TO WAIT A WHOKE FUCKING YEAR THOUGH.
@loganjackson675 Жыл бұрын
I personally thought that the characters actually weren’t outlandish enough for the tone, and the writing wasn’t nearly strong enough for it. It came off like how teens who like Tarantino would write Tarantino. The jokes didn’t land for me enough to have that dark-humor feel throughout, the decisions the characters made were always stupid but not in an intentional way that made for funny and absurd moments or consequences but just in a random and plot convenient way, and the dialogue was beyond cringe and unnatural. Aside from that, you touched on it, I thought the character development was poor. The only arch I really cared much about was the one between the married couple in the group. The others just never connected with me fully. They touch on each one but offer no depth, from the nun and her background to Joe and his Vietnam experience, but by the end we basically have only learned as much as they told us in a few lines of dialogue and a single scene. I stuck around for the plot but for some reason, I just spend 99% of the time rolling my eyes and forcing myself to watch in order to see what happened

I will day the clothing is correct...I also notice that in most 80's throwbacks, the decor, colors. and clothing is more 70's. I don't know why it annoys me so much, maybe because I lived those decades and clearly remember them.

Because it's scripted by twenty- and thirtysomethings who don't know anything about the time period and are too smug and lazy to attempt historical accuracy.

They ruined the show with that dumb twist. It made no sense and was unnecessary to the plot. The show could have been good for seasons to come, but now I'll pass. I won't be Game of Thronesed ever again.

I binged #Hunters yesterday and Friday night. I agree they could have been more consistent per the characters. But I kept watching - wanting to know what happened next - some of it's predictable but not all of it- there was a surprise twist in there and I enjoyed it a lot.

***spoiler alert*** PLEASE DON'T READ THIS COMMENT IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THIS SEASON*** I loved so much every episode... Really! I liked see Al Pacino in a role like this, I think it fits on him very good as Jewish escaped from the war.. I liked him as grandpa, as hunter and because he's a really good actor in every movie he did.. And till the end I was excited to know who was the Wolf... But then I don't really liked the fact he was the real villain.... HELL NO! HE JUST SHOULD BE HIS GRANDPA!! So sad to know.... Sorry for the spoiler, but I just finished to watch it and I feel so sad now.... 😢😞🙁😣 I needed to say it...

To be honest I feel guilty for enjoying it. They really should have left out all the Holocaust stuff if you're doing it in this stylistic tone. That's the difference between this and Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards. We know why we hate Nazi's we didn't need to see the flashbacks when you've got good actors there, let them do their job and emote when telling us about their experience in the camps, and then get back to killing Nazis because killing Nazis is fun. Watch Reprisal if you liked this or if you didn't like this I thought that was pretty good.

When u watch it in one sitting of course it goes slow for u, its a long show. I watched it 2 episode a day and it wasn’t slow at all.

Sure, but that didn’t effect my score at all. I don’t factor that in, I just have to address it in the vid.

Great review! I love the performances from Al Pacino and Logan Lerman. I also like how they had some comedic moments to provide levity to the darker moments. While it was a slow burn at times it definitely had twists and turns. What can I say it was great seeing Nazis being hunted down.

Jordan Peele? Wow🤯 This series isn't getting the praise it should.
@kemocali65044 жыл бұрын
@Lord Farquaad What I'm saying is that this series has more treasures than expected, Jordan Peele was just the icing on the cake for me. Al Paccino and Dylan Baker are both seasoned actors, and did an amazing job. "The lgbtq agenda" was there but didn't feel forced like other shows and series (😒 batwOman). Did you see the movie GET OUT? Have you seen any of his sketch comedy? Dude is a Genius, I didn't like the movie US though 🤔, can't wait to see his what he does with CANDYMAN, have you seen that trailer? What do you know about CANDYMAN?
@kemocali65044 жыл бұрын
@Lord Farquaad AND it's actually good. I didn't however like how Al Paccino's character was 🤬SPOILERS🤬 killed off at the end, it seemed unnecessary. No this series gets praise for having this Quentin Tarantino vibe, something I haven't seen in a series before.
@kemocali65044 жыл бұрын
NO! The BEST thing about this series is that THIS IS HOW THE X-MEN MOVIES SHOULD HAVE BEEN, more or less. OMG 😖 I HATE THOSE MOVIES! Joana even worked at the comic book store, so he kinda understood the Peter Parker/ Bruce Wayne life he was about to endure.

I think the show is really over the top, as is the mood that the show conveys. But i dont think that everything is necessarily separated from our reality, i mean most of the actions that some of the nazi characters did in the camps were accurate, sometimes they were worse. This also goes for the victims, these things happened unfortunately. I though the show was good, I just felt a little disconnected towards the end of it.

Same. For a first time in my life I stopped the series to look for a review, just to check if I’m the only one that sees all of today’s social justice translated into 70s fight with nazis . It’s a dangerous line to pull. Very dangerous. Melting the horror of genocide with today’s meaning of nazi ( astonishing number of ppl were called nazis in past few years that have absolutely no connection or similarities at all) ! Things like how to know a nazi : “ if he’s white” ... yes , true, yes, a joke, but it really sounded just like a keyword of today’s social justice warriors.
@Mr_Stanley8884 жыл бұрын
I watched the whole thing. It was boring, unfunny, badly acted. You basically had no back stories for the characters so you didn't care what happened to them at all. Every time they caught a potential nazi it played out exactly the same. They shoehorned in pointless characters for woke crap. And it was historically inaccurate.
@AustinBurke4 жыл бұрын
If this wasn’t my job.. I just couldn’t keep watching a show i wasn’t into. Especially one this long.
@susancomerford61424 жыл бұрын
Had to watch it because the story line was good. Almost everything else was not good. Nothing gelled , don't know if it was the writing or directing or the acting. Didn't fall in love with any of the characters. Later episodes were better without so much of the bizzare Tarrantino type 'interludes' which just did not work on this show. Episodes felt like they went on forever ....and I am an expert binge watcher!! :)
