Hunters chase stag on quad bikes despite ban

Hunting stags with packs of dogs has supposedly been illegal for almost 20 years - although there are some exemptions.

However - despite the ban - hunts are continuing with impunity.
We've been sent footage of stags being chased on National Trust land involving people on quad bikes as well as horses.
While on another hunt - it's one of the hounds which appears to be at risk.
There is some distressing footage in this story.

I’ve hunted red deer and other introduced animals in New Zealand for over 15 years, and I really must say that this is not hunting in any sense of the word. Using a combination of dogs, horses and quad bikes just to kill a stag only shows that nobody has the time, patience, skill or respect for the animal to actually go and hunt in a correct manner. This is just a bunch of rich people trampling on conservation land, ruining sensitive habitats and disturbing local wildlife, just so that they can pat themselves on the back for a kill that means nothing. I would be embarrassed to have anything to do with this charade, and I doubt anyone there would even know how to gut, skin and butcher a red stag. They would just send it off to the local butcher. What a joke.

What I've learnt from the young local red deer stags near me, is their such kind and gentle animals with their own quirky personalities and can't get enough of good carrots. I understand that landowners have to cull the older stags to keep the population down, due to the lack of natural predators. However, I fail to see how people can be cruel and inhumane to these beautiful beats in what seems nothing more than a sadistic sport. These people should all be prosecuted for animal cruelty.

Alternatively make them change to drag hunts using dogs such as bloodhounds which aren't bred or trained to hunt prey. Or do paper chases following a trail laid by a runner. Both these solutions would allow the fun of a chase without ripping defenseless animals apart. They would also ensure the hunt only went on land where they had permission.

There is no point in criticising the people doing these things, the country should be up in arms demanding that the relevant police actually DO their job. Did anyone really expect these types of hunters to give their sport so readily? They made it clear they wouldn't when they started protesting in London, making a noise and blocking traffic (and no doubt number amongst those that are all too quick to condemn climate change activists). Hunting deer to control the fast-increasing numbers (since I know from personal experience that they do considerable damage to crops and young trees) is okay - if it's done quickly, humanely, and with as little amount of suffering or stress as possible. In my area, hunters can obtain permission from the various landowners to shoot deer. Many of them have constructed hides and platforms for this purpose. One bullet and it's over. But to chase them down like this? Never! This 'torturous chase' is done purely for enjoyment, so a few elites can prance about in their Huntingdon Pink, blow silly trumpets, and booze up later. This chase-hunt is immoral and laws must be strengthened to stop it. Throw the guilty into prison. National Trust advise people to report incidents to the police - because they risk upsetting some of their upper class subscribers if they personally take action. It's a bit like the way the RSPCA did not get involved with fox hunting years ago - too many rich who gave them money were involved in it.

Deer no longer have natural predators within the British Isles. That said, chasing down, injuring, and hounding deer to death is highly stressful on the deer and is neigh-on barbaric. I grew up in the rural Leicestershire, UK, and occasionally ate venison, just for context. I now live in Canada. I am not opposed to hunting deer or moose ethically. But chasing down deer or foxes for sport is barbaric and a disgusting act. I would not shed a tear if a huntsman were to lose their life in the hunt.
