I had a neighbor named Billy who spent his whole career hunting feral hogs. The State of Florida paid him to hunt them at night on state park lands. He was a USMC sniper in Vietnam, so I suppose you could say he was well qualified for the job. He had one bad encounter, & a plaque with giant teeth on his wall. Usually, the hogs run when the 1st goes down. But one time, instead of running away, a giant boar ran straight to him. Billy carried 2 pistols for up close, & that time he had to use them after the boar got to him. He had giant scars on his shin where the boar attacked him. Imagine getting paid to do what many call having a good time. Billy passed in 2020.

I delivered bundles of newspapers to various carriers outside of Abilene Texas. On my return trip back , about four in the morning on a road with no lighting an 18 wheeler gave me the brights. I took this as a warning because we were the only ones on the road. I did not have to slow down because I always drive slow on this road. About a half mile up in the middle of the road was a deer being consumed by about four hogs. These hogs had to weigh 300 plus pounds. If I would of hit them no doubt some serious damage. I pulled up right in front and watched these huge hogs eat the deer. You could hear the crunching of the hogs eating the bones. I just imagined what they could do to a human. These animals are dangerous and will completely destroy a farmers field. They reproduce fast and will eat anything. Enjoyed the video

@Peter_Hudson i feel that there is always a more compassionate way of handling a situation if there is a will. Human beings right now are at the top of the food chain, having control over all nature and animals because of our ability to use tools. Every being wants two basic things, to survive and to reproduce. Early humans in the wild were always scared for their survival and hence they created houses and colonies to keep the wild animals out. We built societies so that we can survive. However when the first thing we wanted for ourselves was safety and survival, how did we become so blind to the fact that every being in the world lives for the exact same basic thing. The sign of a civilized society is how they treat their weakest member and right now our weakest members are these poor animals who just want to eat just like us. Yes they are destroying food meant for us, but even we grew crops on land that was never really ours! We humans marked our territory, cut down jungles and built homes and farms. Yes we need food and so do these animals and that's why i am saying there are more compassionate ways of dealing with every issue. You don't have to take someone's life. That's why i asked you to imagine if we were the weaker lot and we were more stupid but we still wanted food and safety. Wouldn't we be glad if our superiors were compassionate?

And for everybody that says “AR15’s have no use for anything other than killing people” or “nobody uses AR15’s for hunting because they’re too powerful🤣” or “why do you need more than 10 rounds”, you need to understand that the AR15 IS USED FOR HUNTING ALL THE DAMN TIME. It is the gun of choice for most people when hog hunting. Large capacity mags are ideal because hogs are usually found in large groups so you need multiple rounds to shoot multiple pigs. Also, the reason they aren’t used as deer rifles isn’t because they’re too powerful, it’s because they aren’t powerful enough. The .223/5.56 round is much less powerful than something like a 7mm magnum that many people often use in a deer rifle.
@jponz852 жыл бұрын
I get your point, but people unfortunately are also using these high mag capacity ar15s to shoot other people in masses. That's the problem
@Upsideround2 жыл бұрын
The reason they aren't used as deer rifles is because it's unethical. most states don't allow large mags for big game hunting. .223 at 100yds is plenty powerful and legal for big game in most states. It's one thing to go after invasive species and take out large groups vs one animal that should only take one clean shot or maybe two. But I saw a texan go on a kill crazy rampage firing into a herd of elk here in CO had a large capacity weapon that was illegal, got buck fever and just started shooting. killed 2 cows, a calf, and the one bull he had a tag for. Thats why AR's arent used for big game.

Also the AR-15 is incredibly lightweight compared to most rifles.

Unfortunately, Texas has made it really hard to poison with Warfarin. This would be very effective and easier to introduce into a larger population. The Warfarin bait used for wild hogs is 1/5 the strength of over the counter rat poison, so virtually harmless to any domesticated animals or non-targeted wildlife. "Warfarin hog bait has little effect on all other animals, including house pets like dogs-to be fatal, the average dog would have to consume 176 pounds in 1 day, or 13 pounds of bait daily, for 5 days." "TDA- WARFARIN FERAL HOG BAIT QUICK FACTS " PETA needs to step aside and let Texas decide what is right for Texas. These hogs need to GO! However we need to do it. Whatever it takes.

If you think about the cost of helicopter fuel for 2 hours, plus lodging and food, plus god knows however many .223 rounds are fired in 2 hours of shooting, its really not that pricey. Spend $2500 for guided whitetail hunt and kill one deer, spend $2400 and kill 50+ hogs from a helicopter. I'd put my money on the hog hunt. It's free to hunt them, just have a gun and permission from the landowner. Exactly. They are genetically distinct from the Russian "boars" that were also brought to the Americas (Texas and California). +100-years-ago, many farmers allowed their pigs to wander freely through the surrounding woodlands. In the fall, dogs and neighbors would hunt down the pigs for the "matanzas" (slaughter). Communal efforts in capturing, killing, and butchering the pigs would feed many people. If a farmer collaborated with his neighbors in their matanzas, he would be expected to reciprocate by helping them on their farms' pig harvests.

For the ones wondering why Wild boar is both from Texas - and not. It’s hard to remember that swine are native to Europe - not the Americas - because they’ve been here so long. Christopher Columbus brought the first eight pigs, intended as food, to the western hemisphere with his voyage to Cuba in 1493. The wild descendants of those pigs and others, estimated to number 6 million in 35 states, have been wreaking havoc ever since; annually, they cause $2.5bn in damage to crops, forestry and livestock producers. They can spread disease to both humans and domestic animals. With upwards of 2 million of these beasts in Texas alone, the state has become the center of a huge nationwide pig problem.

The individuals who are critical of killing feral hogs are just not familiar with the damage they do. So far this year, they have torn my yard to pieces...not just some small damage like an armadillo does...I mean rooting 8 to 10” deep is large areas. They have knocked down my fencing. They rooted up and broke my incoming water line, they destroyed my vegetable garden and of course, the fence around it. I had a small pond and they have completely fouled it with the their rooting, wallowing, urine and feces. It now smells so bad you can’t go near it. I am generally a animal lover, but nothing I see being done to these pernicious pests bothers me. I absolutely abhor them.

Imagine there was an alien species far superier to humans in every way and they saw us as texas people see these hogs. We would be so screwed. If people could think this way, the entire world would change. I feel that there is always a more compassionate way of handling a situation if there is a will.
@-BWS-4 жыл бұрын
@@Mihrock1 For one, these hogs were never meant to be in North America. Thats why it doesn't work to have them here. Far as I know, they're literally from Russia. The biggest country on earth, which is also a quite harsh country when it comes to weather and the seasons. Thats why these hogs are so damn resilient, and grow so big. They are not meant to be on this portion of the earth. Besides. How else would we deal with the hog problem aside from killing? Its literally the only solution, I don't know why you people can't just understand that. Also, keep in mind that we humans are meant to be like this. We aren't any different from any other creature. We are a very large in number, and an intelligent species. Probably the most intelligent creature on earth. Theres still plenty of land for the animals. And while I do think it would be good to give them a bit more land, they can do with what they have, the same way many of us struggling humans do. And again- these hogs aren't fucking meant to be here. They are different from the native pigs. They are meant to live in harsh conditions, and the conditions of North America aren't very harsh in comparison to where these hogs come from. Your loss, I guess. I'll just be here unloading on hogs and getting extremely inexpensive meat year-round while also exterminating these pests.
@Mihrock14 жыл бұрын
@@-BWS- Can you do some critical thinking? Right now you can only think from a position of power, as a human u have no superiors. You are at the top of the food chain and the most intelligent and have the ability to use weapons and kill literally any other species. But sit down and imagine yourself as being from the weaker lot. If us humans discovered an alien civilization far more advanced that saw humans as pests in the universe! What if they decided to deal with you in manners like these? If you were at a weaker position, less intelligent, less strong, wouldn't you want that you wish these superior aliens were very compassionate?? Think about it.
@-BWS-4 жыл бұрын
@@Mihrock1 How could we be a pest to aliens? We are on an entirely different planet than they would be. Your logic isn't fair, and isn't good logic at all. These hogs destroy forests and habitat that normally the native animals would use to their advantage. Eventually if left alone, these hogs have the potential to wipe out entire species. Just because some idiot decided it'd be a good idea to bring Russian hogs to a part of the earth that it could destroy. Also, judging by your name, you likely don't live in North America, so it doesn't surprise me that you wouldn't understand.
