I don’t think it’s the future for racing. I think they can definitely serve a purpose in society for urban riding ect. My kids couldn’t ride today because the neighbors baby was asleep. This would be perfect in that scenario.

patrick bateman They’ve been out of business since late 2018 when Harley stopped investing in the company. HD these days got money problems themselves but Alta just wasn’t profitable even though they sold about as many bikes as they were making. They just couldn’t produce enough to keep going.

It is the future. Gas will inevitably run out. We have loads of it, and gas will be around for quite a few more decades... but we're going to transition to electric and the speed at which we're doing it is pretty impressive. I like the sound of my bike's exhaust like the next guy, but electric is just so powerful and sleek/new, and hella fun to drive. You can argue that electricity in your bike that you charged at your home was almost certainly produced by burning coal, which is far worse for the environment than gas emissions... but I'm not someone that really argues that side of things. Fruit for thought though for electric and its pros/cons.

Andre D battery technology doesn’t have that much room to grow. Lithium ion is the most energy dense battery possible (besides possibly fluorine which is wayyyy too dangerous and toxic for widespread use in batteries). We are at about .15 kilowatt hours per kilogram. Now, the theoretical limit is .5 kilowatt hour per kilogram. Seems like a lot of room (batteries could theoretically be ~ half the weight they are now with the same energy capacity) to grow but given that batteries require electrolyte (which does nothing for power storage), and a case, and other parts to function....and possibly water cooling to the battery cells...there really ISNT that much room to get better. I have an automotive engineering certification as well as a bachelors in mechanical engineering. I love chatting about cars and vehicles if you’d like to discuss more.

dargisimo it’s interesting. I gave it a quick read. It seems like a less technical write up. The bottom line in a battery’s performance is the voltage difference between the anode and cathode. For example: lead acid has a potential difference of 2volts. Hence all car batteries have 6 cells to make 12 volts.....I did not find those numbers published in the article above. They claim to be three times more efficient, but there is little data to back it up, although I am interested to see a more technical write up

Dilan Pearson solid state offers the possibility of a instant jolt recharge which would be faster. Battery’s are liquid cooled, I can recharge my electric board racer right after riding since the cooling system gets it down to 70 degrees Fahrenheit in about 2 minutes.

Here in the UK we run into a lot of noise complaints with neighbours, as you guys all know the sound of 4 strokes and 2 strokes screaming their hearts out travels miles. With the noise issues comes restricted track use, only allowing certain tracks to be open for a number of times in a year. This could allow tracks to be open near enough every week.

I used to do some week plus long camping trips, riding all day. We would eventually have to run into town and fill gas cans. It would be pretty cool to leave a spare battery back at camp hooked to a solar charger all day while riding.

@@grunt98444 that doesn't exactly work. you would actually need 3 sets of batteries a set on the bike, a set full charged and a set on the charger. Batteries don't like to be charged while hot from just being drained. And that even if you have the capability to swap batteries

I rode both the MX and dual sport models, I was really impressed with them. The elephant in the room was the $13,000 price. Today $9500 four strokes are the reason so many people are going back to an older yz or cr250 two smoke. The Alta was great if you had money and already had a few bikes in your stable though.

The Altas were made down the street from me I’d see them buzzing around they were cool bikes. Their business plan as I remember was to make a successful bike line to be bought out by a major motorcycle manufacturer, Harley Davidson was interested but pulled out, shortly after Alta folded.

This is one way to beat the noise restrictions at tracks across America. They would be able to race at night, in cites and small towns. No engine noise or pollution. It’s a crazy idea.

I know Alta went under but I’m sure bikes like these will be back . So much fun and look awesome . Just need to be a little cheaper and dc fast chargers at the track . Tracks could be in or near cities/ neighbourhoods as no noise ! We could see new tracks because of these bikes . Future is exciting .

I had an Alta before, and they are STUPID fast 😂 I wish the battery lasted more than half an hour haha, mine was the standard MX bike so no kickstand, horn, or lights
