Randy, absolutely love the show you have made. One of the most genuine shows I've seen in a long time. The thing that I like the best is that you don't make it look easy. your not all about the kill shot and trying to cram as much of that into one episode as you can. its called hunting, not killing. thank your for all that you do. from one montanian to another

That first bear encounter was beautiful. I live in Australia and we have no bear here to hunt. But as a hunter there are time when you are happy just to watch the wildlife than to shoot them. That was a priceless first encounter just watching it on YT thanks for the video

Great show. I concur with every sentiment you passed on here. I'm a native Texan and would t live anywhere else .... except Alaska. I was stationed there for 4 years. Awe inspiring and amazing environment. I'm glad you mentioned the part about it not always being about the kill. The stories and memories will get you through a lot more than a hide on the wall. Love the show. Keep it up. Keep having fun.

Great to see that you had a functioning boat this time around! The scene with the boat beached on the rocks reminded me of a Far Side comic strip from many years ago where 2 explorers were belted into their jeep, the jeep was completely upside down in a gully. One explorer says to the other "I thought you said this was 4 wheel drive". Love it

I laughed so hard when Joe stepped off that boat!! Always an entertaining show Randy, this one was great though. I love how I can recognize some of the spots you hunt in Montana, I'm from Polson/Missoula area but have hunted the whole state since I was 12. Curious thing is this....I NEVER seem to see as much game as you guys are able to get on camera. That section where you filmed all those bulls in Central Mt. on that WALK IN hunt. I still have never gotten into that kind of dream situation during rifle season. Love that I can live that dream through your videos. Thanks!!

I appreciate Randy letting the smaller quarry go. Wish more hunters did that. I don't hunt much any more. When I did years ago, and was hunting for mature trophies, I was always passing up on game. Always good to let them reproduce their genes by waiting till they are near their final years. I understand the costs of hunts, and using one's vacation time to hunt, can encourage taking of younger game. However it is very noble of the hunters that pass up on them whom appreciate being outdoors and one with the land. I have been getting a lot of gratifying moments when in the woods(year round) ; and have had animals get within 10 yards or much less. Of course when bears came that close I had my 44 magnum drawn - and quickly scared them off(LOL). Seems to be enough these days to get a photo and see the same animal the following year(it's intriguing). By no means am I against hunting and despise those who attack hunter's and gun owner's rights. I'm the guy who thinks there should be no gun laws(not one-lol). Somehow just knowing that I can put food on the table if I have to, and getting close has been enough. Happy hunting all. Be safe,be ethical and hope you all get a real beauty to eat and mount. If you don't eat it donate the meat to the needy. PS. I managed to get two 8 point bucks, a grey fox and a feral cat within 10 feet of each other and myself(got photo to prove it). Although over the top, I got two does to come into my dining room(got photo to prove it). I cheated by putting out food, however still not a simple accomplishment. That's the kind of gratification I'm talking about. One thing is for sure. I know how to consistently get within a few yards of game, and will never starve . Making myself an inanimate part of the forest has worked and is therapeutic.

Heading to POW in a month to fish. Any advice for a Sitka? Always wanted to get one, won't have transportation to get to the Alpine. Just a ride from other fisherman, maybe to watch clear cuts etc. Worth taking the rifle etc, or just stick to fish. Have always gone to POW to fish.

I have a question Randy if i may. Without intentionally sounding like a dick here, why would you shoot the biggest animals? In my mind you would leave the biggest ones which would then in turn breed to reproduce big offspring? I could be wrong here but surely if hunters always go for the biggest animals then the weaker ones survive and produce smaller maybe weaker offspring? Genuine question here. Im no biologist or hunter i just cant understand with my own logic.
@Fresh_Tracks
@Fresh_Tracks 7 жыл бұрын
I would disagree with the premise that hunting older animals allows only the weak to survive and produce off spring. Very often, the oldest are chased from the breeding by younger and stronger males. Whether the breeding is done by an old male in the last year(s) of his life or by a younger male in the prime of his life, both will likely carry similar genetics. And if effective in breeding, those genetics will get passed to the offspring. Additionally, half the genetic composition comes from the female side. Biologists consider all of this when setting seasons dates, harvest quotas, etc. I usually answer the question with my own rhetorical question - Would the herd/population be better off if mostly younger males were taken, given those males have now made it through the most dangers period of their lives (age 2)? Is the resulting dynamics of mostly very old males better for the population than a cross section of all ages and allowing more young males to come of age and compete for the right to express their genetic footprint? Most biologists would argue that a mix of all age classes is best, so allowing young boars/bucks/bulls to grow to an older age is helpful. Also, with bears, as shown in this episode, the smaller bears are usually females, the fecundity of which determines the future of the populations. Thanks for watching.

I'm assuming you boys are not going into the woods because of grizzlies/Alaskan brown bears or because your just taking the easy way but than again trying to swim to the bank isn't probably the easiest way to do it!! Lol. I've been in Bristol Bay Alaska Gillnetting salmon for about six years so I know that water can be damn cold!!

In many locations in SE AK there are either browns or blacks, but few areas where both live together in the same area. This could have been one of the many places in SE AK where browns are not typically found (Prince of Wales, etc)
