I've called in bulls from 3/4 miles away. While calling bulls just below me... lone bulls from as far as I could see came running down, across the basin and right up to within 20 yards away... they had me pegged from 3/4 miles away!

Awesome job! I hunt Apache county in the Navajo Nation near my home. They are some massive creatures, however the increase in the feral horse population is driving the elk an mule deer numbers down. Not many watering holes here on the reservation.

Yeah people just don't seem to understand the amount of damage feral horse do. They need to be managed like any other animal.

I drew 2a & 2B elk Oct.8th-17th. I think I know where you're at in this video. I looked at the map and it is exactly where I am headed when I scout it before bow season.

I'm from Apache County, Arizona. It's amazing for you to do this here in Arizona. I love watching your shows, especially the ones in my home state. You plan on coming back to Arizona again? What about one on Arizona Mule Deer?

Liking the "On your own approach" Holy cow ....just got a quote from a guide here in Northern California for $20,000 for an Elk Hunt with a 'guaranteed tag" ...can it be that expensive ?! I'd rather take my own chances and just enjoy the experience whether It's a successful hunt or not if I was ever fortunate to draw a tag. Sheesh FYI ...potential new hunter with no clue here

$20,000 is a lot, you can start hunting elk for $1000-2,000. elk tag range between $500-700 for out of state.

I moved to Arizona from Oregon in 1995 and have been here ever since, Arizona has elk but it's one of the worst places to live if you enjoy elk hunting because it's so hard to get a tag. There's no OTC tags here. Better chance of having a white Christmas than you do a trophy bull elk

Hmm. I have drawn late rifle tags about every 4-7 years and had great hunts. Hope your luck changes.

Good video 1 ? You said you'd rather shoot a cow instead of a young bull is that because the females outnumber the males and you want the herds to increase. Also, I got a elk tag (antlerless elk) so would you be against taking a young bull calf as opposed to a cow and if so why? I prefer the more tender, less gamey (gamie?) tasting meat as I prefer other wild game to elk. (I made a mistake on my app and didn't realize I selected antlerless. because I know where monsters are close to where I live on a reservation) So I'll probably keep the back straps and give the rest to friends and family. I'd greatly appreciate your feedback well because compared to other vids on KZbin of other hunters I can tell you know what your doing very well. Thx keep up the great vids I really liked your how to field dress a deer in like 5 or 10 minutes something like that.

I am all for a hunter taking whatever works for them. I see a young bull as an animal that has finally made it through the most dangerous 2.5 years of his life. If he makes it through that hunting season, he has very good odds of growing to be a mature breeding bull. In most units, female elk are at or above objective, so I would rather take an old cow that has run most of her course than to take a young bull with a lot of life ahead of him. As for meat quality, I've never had a bad elk, so I don't really make must distinction based on age or sex of the animal taken. Thanks for watching.

whiskybentcowboy Got it. As for hunting with us, as you might imagine, we get hundreds of requests. The good news is that MT is pretty easy. Draw odds are 100% in most years and most the state is open for rifle hunting in November. Lots of public land and plenty of deer, just not the quality of deer in the better AZ units.

@Fresh_Tracks
@Fresh_Tracks 7 жыл бұрын
In addition to Howa rifles, I've tried many other brands; Kimber, Remington, Savage, Winchester, Browning. I settled on Howa as a result of their rifles being the best value in accurate hunting rifles, and their desire to be part of our public land self-guided hunting message.
