My understanding is that Sidney Hollowware moved its stove division to Marion IN in about 1897. Soon thereafter the Sidney OH plant was sold the Wagner. Marion hollowware was then made in Marion IN. Many companies made stoves and hollowware. This is why Marion cast iron resembles Sidney Hollowware and some Wagner pieces.

It just amazes me how old some of these are but yet how good they look!!! I am just beginning to look for skillets and such so that I can get rid of some of the non-stick junk and never buy it anymore. Why would I when these will last forever!! Sure wish I realized this a long time ago.

That’s exactly what I’ve been doing. 90% of my pots and pans are cast iron. My husband laugh at me and say I act like I’m from the 1800’s. Have a bunch of skillets but I haven’t gotten into the really expensive ones yet.

Hey thanks for another great video! This one is much better than some previous ones, steadier camera work and most importantly, you told us the price of each piece! Nothing as heartbreaking as seeing a piece and then not knowing what they are asking! 😀 Keep up the GREAT work and thanks again! Happy Thanksgiving!

The combo skillet/cover is actually part of a John Johnson combo cooker. They are distinct by the fact that the top/lid doesn't have pour spouts. Also, the patent number confirmed it for me. I like your videos and plan on checking out some of the shops soon since I live close by in Georgia.

2:45 - It is a tool for extracting nails from wood with minimal damage. For when you need to remove planks etc. and want to put them back again (using modern stainless screws, much more convinient than nails but that was the "power tools" of yesterday). You hammer it (using the handle) around the head of the nail then it can be grabbed using the teeth. If using a pry bar and violently lifting the wood instead you risk it breaking - not great if you want to reinstall the piece when you're done doing what you needed to do. Every amateaur craftsman should have one!

Heavens! I so much wanted you to pick up the hammered finish dutch oven in the center of that rack. I have one I love so much, Griswold 8, and I've never seen it anywhere. The difference between the small hammered outside and smooth inside is very tactile.

I have a wapak with an “Erie” on it to....rescued it from an garage sale, love that pan too.....but the one you looked at wapak probably had “erie” on it too.
@castIroncookware5 жыл бұрын
That "Erie" on your Wapak could be what is referred to as a "ghost mark". Sometimes a mold was used for a different line of cast iron and they would fill in the mold marks and add new markings. Later the fill in would ware away somewhat creating a "ghost mark". Very cool and collectible.

After seeing the way some people restore cast iron I would never buy refurbished, I do not want acid or any other of the extreme poisons they are using in any skillet I would use. And, I doubt if the vinegar bath does what they say it will do to neutralize the poison.
@castIroncookware5 жыл бұрын
Electrolysis, Lye bath and oven cleaner in a bag methods are the only ones that I personally endorse. Most of the other methods can damage the cast-iron. Lye is the main ingredient in the oven cleaner in a bag method. The main ingredient in the electrolysis method is washing soda. Once you get down to bare metal, these can be washed away fairly easily.

Will you give your opinion of the safety of using these for cooking after someone may have soaked it in acid for days?
@castIroncookware5 жыл бұрын
I personally use the lye tank method and the electrolysis tank method. I would never use acid of any kind to clean cast iron because you can destroy the cast-iron as well. Lye is virtually an organic method that will only eat way the organic residue on the cast-iron. Once they have turned has been stripped, vinegar will neutralize the lye and it all can be washed away with an SOS pad and then dish soap after that.
