You channel is a lifesaver. We have just inherited a lively young Cocker (@ 20weeks) from my elderly and infirm parents who really couldn't cope with her, they inherited her in turn from friends who bought her for their daughter who it turned out had an allergy. I love your informative no-nonsense videos and am determined to put the effort in to give her the guidance and direction she needs. As you might imagine this mad, naughty undisciplined whirlwind is having an impact on the family and home, our three cats are definitely not impressed and even in the first few days we've got issues to cope with. But she has bonded well with my 12yr old son, we've a decent size garden with lots of the sorts of features she loves and living in the South Downs area on the Kent/Surrey border lots of areas well suited to her character. I definitely feel that dog training is also owner training and I've seen too many neurotic Collies so am determined to put in the work. Not sure she will be a gun dog as I've no experience in this, but I have friends of friends who shoot so who knows? it may be a new venture for me!

I just want to express my excitement finding your channel in youtube. Just the kind of training that my two pups, a labrador and border collie mix, need as they - and I - enjoy going to - and training in - the outdoors. My lab loves retrieving and his border collie mix somehow loves scent trailing. So your channel is perfect. Subscribed and will binge-watch this weekend.

My kit consists of tennis balls, a rabbit ball, a canvas puppy dummy, 2 Kong dog toys (one is dumbell shaped covered with tennis ball material and the other is a long, thin fur fabric fox with rope inside instead of stuffing), a slip lead, an Acme 210.5 whistle and of course, my now 8 month old Gordon Setter x GWP puppy. I'll be buying a bigger rabbit dummy too now as she favours the rabbit ball for retrieving.

I do use the dummy launcher quite a bit. It kills two birds with one stone. It simulates gunfire and launches dummies farther then I can possibly throw them. Dokken does make simulated foam pheasant, duck and grouse dummies.

Slip lead by far the best. I mistakenly bought what they call a bungee lead for my German Shepherds, big booboo, dogs lean on them, and pull. So slip lead back in action instead! Dummy launchers in the wrong hands are the devil's work! My relative thought it a great thing to bang it around his newly acquired Spaniel! I 11:13 inherited this Spaniel, who was as you can imagine "gun shy" shipped her over to Spain. Dropped dog bowls all sorts noises, listened to hunters around the house, took her picking up (never picked anything bar a tennis ball) spent first drive right away from guns, quietly advancing. She still wary of the banging, but once that whistle goes, she picks up for fun. The dummy launcher needs one of your special, Videos Charlie

Love your videos and love your ethics, I'm looking to get a cocker and thinking a 10hr drive to Perth for the right dog is worth it. Keep up the great work.

Is it possible (realistic) to have a reasonably trained gun dog (i.e. German W/Haired Pointer) that is both trained/obedient AND lives within a normal household?

I'm getting a labrador puppy. I can't go to puppy classes and don't know any dog owners - will it matter that I won't be able to socialise her with other dogs before the first crucial 14 weeks period ends. Obviously at about 14 weeks she'll have had 2nd vaccination and will be able to meet other dogs in park, but will that be too late for her to be well balanced with other dogs?

Hi Charlie, I have a 2 year old golden retriever who chases a ball or a rope in the house if you throw near to him, but won’t bring it back. I’ve thrown it in the hall about 6 feet away and he just stands and barks. But he loves to play tug. My red fox lab, who is 7 months old loves retreaving but thinks it’s a race when out walking the other dog, and she is a horrendous puller. On her own she’s great. What can I do? Or can you do another video please
