I got a chance to meet Marisa Tomei at Dallas Fan Expo back in June and she was super nice. I also got to meet Ralph Macchio, William Zabka and Hayden Christensen at Dallas Fan Expo last year in 2023!

The Earth Dies Screaming is a solid little apocalyptic/alien type movie. It's now owned by Disney so you have the OOP edition there. Safe to say it will never be out on disc again, so it's a great pickup!!

Oh wow, I had no idea. Thanks for the info, Griff. Really glad I grabbed that one.

Hi, guys! Grace, when you had all the noirs spread across the table, I was rooting hard for you to choose "Pursued." It's an outstanding western noir with cinematography by the legendary James Wong Howe. Great choice, and I think you'll love it (hope you can squeeze it in Noirvember). And DJ, great move picking up "Forbidden Planet." It's one of my very favorite sci-fi films, right up there with the original "The Day the Earth Stood Still." Happy viewing!

Hey, Kevin! I'm really hoping we can get to Pursued next month. It'll be nice to have a western noir on the list to shake things up visually. The Day the Earth Stood Still is an all-time favorite of mine. I'm hoping a love Forbidden Planet just as much!

A serious side of Leslie Nielsen even though its sci fi. Show's what a truly great actor he was.

I really like District 9. I’ve not seen Chappie, and it’s been ages since I’ve watched Elysium, but I would’ve grabbed that set.

11:46 MGM's 'Forbidden Planet' is classic 1956 sci-fi movie very loosely based on William Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' apparently and it set a production design aesthetic that served as inspiration for the production design of the classic 'Star Trek' TV series. It features effects animation of a mostly invisible monster that was animated by Walt Disney Studios working in partnership with MGM. It also has the first fully electronic score which was composed by and performed by Bebe and Louis Barrons (I own a sealed LP of the soundtrack that was autographed by Bebe and Louis Barrons). In addition, that Blu-ray includes a second movie also starring Robbie the Robot from 'Forbidden Planet' called 'The Invisible Boy', so that's a great deal at an excellent price. :)

I loved FORBIDDEN PLANET it is so 50's sci-fi. My favorite 50's sci-fi film along with INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, it is even better than WHEN THE EARTH STOOD STILL, WAR OF THE WORLDS, THE THING and THEM. It is supposed to be based upon Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST, as a Shakespeare fan, I have difficulty tying the two together. So glad Grace and you are enjoying watching film noir films, I've only started watching these films as a genre about 5 years ago, of course, I've seen some of the great ones previously. Most of the "B" films are as good as the "A" list films.

Excellent blu ray pickup on the film noir title, "Pursued." Kino has the newer and better release -- a 2K remaster of the film -- of this older Olive blu ray. Enjoying the channel, you two, and tagging along with you as you thrift and shop.

Forbidden planet was actually my first Blu-ray label purchase when i first got into collecting, the HMV premium collection version here in the Uk. A really enjoyable film I always love old sci-fi films where they try to predict the future but they still end up having outdated technology along side it.
@FilmsByColor3 ай бұрын
That's awesome. What a great first pickup. I recently looked back in my amazon history to see what my first every blurays were. I've thought about doing a video reacting to them. It's pretty cringe 😅

@FilmsByColor As a big Marvel fan and have a marvel collection and all the movies, pretty sad and annoying they have stopped releasing physical copies of Marvel movies in Australia. Might have to get my blu ray copies moving forward from Europe as i think they work here. But it sucks not being able to go to an actual store and buy them anymore. I love my little physical media collection though. Yours looks great as well 👍

Every time I see folks visit half price, I think - where do they have these stores with these titles? We have 12 locations, and they don't have this many choices if you add all the stores together. Even the original, flagship store doesnt have titles like this. They have 6 rows of BR and nothing like this haul. Good for you guys

Hot take but I hate Fight Club 😮
@FilmsByColor3 ай бұрын
I've never seen it 🤷♂
@TorontoJon3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of 'Fight Club' either because I find the concept of a fight club to be repugnant, not to mention the anarchist/anti-Capitalist message, and there are only so many times one can watch some guy's brains spill all over a floor after being mortally wounded after a bungled robbery or whatever those Fight Club cult members were up to. I've passed on that movie many, many times even when I've seen it for just a dollar or two at local thrift stores. No thanks. It won't be in my media library ever, but I've nothing against those who enjoy the movie. It's just not my cup of tea.
