Hunting FROZEN Louisiana Marsh After RECORD FREEZE!

Only other time I was out there when it was that cold was in bayou Bienvenue in 1989 when I was 20!! It was brutal then too!! Great hunt though! Great video! Kelly

No spectrum could it be a black duck. Seen these before in the marsh. Y’all are troopers for sure getting out in these conditions. What time is the gumbo gonna be ready lol.

Lol it honestly wasn’t too bad. The ice was a little scary since we aren’t used to it and I wasn’t expecting it in the ponds. I thought the moving water would keep it from freezing. But we went prepared. We were layered up with hand warmers in our boots and pockets. Im pretty positive it wasn’t a black duck. They have a speculum as well, but it’s more purple as opposed to the blue/green iridescence you see on a mottled duck. This duck was actually really golden too. That’s something I noticed but didn’t mention on camera. If you watch the footage back the bird had a golden tint to it.

I think it’s a drake the beak looks yellow to me. I would have to guess that’s it’s just some weird mutation because to me it looks pure mottled duck. Wall hanger for sure!

Yea it’s tough to say. It’s like it’s got drake and hen characteristics. Yellow beak like a drake, but black spots like a hen.

We and my dad hunted this same morning in Myrtle Grove LA. Ended up killing 9 and saw a bunch of birds.

It looks like y'all had a good hunt. Opportunities were there that could have made it a great one, but they put the sneak on y'all. What's up with your forehead and the bandage?

Yep. That’s how it goes. It’s hard to see everything coming in every time. But even the ones that burn you keep you excited for the next ducks. I had a spill at work and had a nice gash on my forehead that I was trying to keep clean. The GoPro was a little higher on my head to avoid it and that’s why some of the footage was a little shaky especially in the beginning. But it was worth it. It healed up pretty good and isn’t too noticeable.

I thought I was and idiot for going out hunting in that cold. But I actually ended up killing some birds so it was a great hunt

Nope. We’re crazy too 😂. I’m glad we went too. It was a fun trip.
