Cool! You could attach a small piece of cloth to the back end of the projectile, that would act to straighten it in flight so that it hits with the tip pointing straight foreward. Fold the cloth around the projectile when in pouch, so that it doesnt entangle with the released string...
@jacobwhite82043 жыл бұрын
The cloth would increase drag and decrease range but nonetheless is a good idea for those who have trouble with rifled shots

short of anything idk, 'exotic' copper might be best. more expensive than grinding them out of rebar of course. but copper is more dense than steel and rather more durable than lead. and still fairly readily castable. bodkin arrows are usually 4 sided pyramids, its said that having hard edges helps to focus energy and penetrate things better. though i dont know what if any affect that would have on the aerodynamics of a sling bullet.

To anyone out there wondering if its possible, you can use the sling prity successfully for hunting im 19 and have been slinging since i was 11 or 12 and in recent years have successfully taken down a cock pheasant a house sparrow and an Australian brush tailed possum witch are pests where i live and damage the native forest, in each instance i was using rocks for ammunition but am sure shaped stell projectiles like that would be far more deadly. another thing ive found with the sling that is extremely handy is if your hunting big game like wild boar and they are in thick scrub where you can't shoot them you can sling larg rocks into their area to flush them out and then shoot them with guns. When hunting small game with my sling ive found its easier to hit running of flying targets than stationary ones ive always found this weird anyone elce experienced the same thing?

I just recently bought one on Amazon. Last couple of days I have improved significantly. Can’t aim worth a shit. But probably getting 75 to 100 yard in distance sometimes. I bet that metal would fk someone up bad.

Quench steel bullets in brine and they will penetrate anything. Even through bulletproof glass. This is why I need a lathe.
@vincentvestergaard70304 жыл бұрын
In your opinion, do you think that steel or lead would do more damage, since steel will not deform giving maximum energy transfer to the target, while lead will deliver more energy initially but some will be lost as the lead bends?
@Acroballistics4 жыл бұрын
About penetration I dont really know , if spin is not well aligned maybe being pointy becomes a disadvantage. This one ricochets much more than lead. If warbow arrow ricochets are going to cause any damage I consider this one an even better rival of plate armor in formations.
@vincentvestergaard70304 жыл бұрын
@@Acroballistics yeah, I've tried using both and against hardwood lead seems to deliver more force regardless of which end hits, sometimes even punching through (1" pressure treated wood). I didn't consider the ricochet aspect but I can see how steel would have an advantage there.
@nathangrueber9834 Жыл бұрын
@@Acroballistics hey i was wondering anfer someone suggested putting cloth on the back to straighten the flight. Drag would be a problem. Do you know if cutting spirals into the surface of the rebar bullets helps spin and flight; or creates drag? Or lots of little dents like a golfball creates a vacume?

Your shot at 3:08, it took 5 video frames (more like 4.5) to hit the backstop, assuming 8 m, that's 48 m/s, 60m/s if the distance was 10m. That is smoking fast... May your biconicals rest in peace [or rust peacefully, whichever :) ]

I was wondering of its possible to throw more than one projectile at a time, or use two slinga in one hand. My own personal Curious theory to how it could of been used in warfare.
@Acroballistics2 жыл бұрын
I have done a video with tethered ammo. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4TKeJ-Cir-VY6c Multiple slings will just have more drag and complexity. Some people have tried it with multiple pouches. Multiple untethered projectiles will have a big spread. And keep in mind you are dividing similar amounts of energy into multiple lighter projectiles so you will get less range. Catapults in some circumstances would probably benefit from using grape shot, I don't think a slinger would be useful doing that in battle, maybe when hunting small game.
