Nice shootin', Tex! Just like my Dad used to say, "Rather be lucky than good !" And even without the unique history, it's a truly beautiful motorcycle. Congratulations on acquiring a breathtaking piece of American art history. It's priceless!

Greetings from Fort Collins Todd. That motorcycle is an absolute gem. I`ve been hunting Harley`s myself, and I just scored on a bone stock all original 1974 Ironhead kickstart right shift 8000 mile machine (divorce forced sale) , and it `s a pleasure to behold . The year it rolled off the line I was 13 years old, and ownership was unobtanium . When I sit and ponder the life these bikes have lived it brings a big smile to my face,

Love those old bikes your one lucky dude. Wish I had just one to ride and tinker with. Hard to get anything on disability. At least I can still ride and do my own work. I've got a newer 01 FLHTCI I had to borrow to get but I'm in the wind at least. This green bug is a gem...I can dig it... Keep the vids going ...

OK I have a question. My LATE 1984 has a weird clutch problem. Its not always disengaging when I squeeze the lever. Heres the thing I keep adjusting it and its fine for about fifty miles and then POW it doesnt fully disengage again. Its partially working though. AND its an imtermittent problem its not constant. there is about 3,000 miles on this clutch.Stock ORIGINAL basket with Barnet plates in it. This is a LATE 84 sporty so it has a diaghram spring in it. I changed the primary fluid the other day thinking that old dirty fluid might be to blame. The primary oil was indeed nasty and filthy. I also adjusted the clutch when I chenged the fluid. Rode to the gym and itb was fine but later that day it didnt fully disengage again. The bike doesnt stall out and If I rev her a little it disengages. The clutch cable is lubed and isnt that old. Its not stretching so I rulled that out. I wonder if you have any thoughts before I take the primary cover off and inspect the clutch?

nice! I remember going thru the bags on my 49 ther was a primary sprocket, chain breaker , pieces of chain links n asst tools, mine also had grocery bags at the bottom, 30 years ago I wanted to do a full resto, this bike is probably why everyone always tells me (don't touch that paint) the holy grail my friend!!!

I think so too. it is one thing to find a truly nice OP Knuckle in this kind of cosmetic condition and quite another to find the ONE bike that changed people's perception on original paint machines, thus their desirability and thus peoples perception(s) on to restore or save "as found" and thus changed history. There is only ONE that changed history and this is it.

A sense able question. I purchased a 1936 EL Knuckle Head? In 1939 I have an accident with it. Just the Springer forks gets bent and can’t be repaired. I purchase 1939 Springer forks. When I replace the just the Springer Forks with a 1939 Model and use all the other parts to reassemble the Springer, does that makes my Harley Davidson not original anymore?
@HuntingHarleys
@HuntingHarleys 6 жыл бұрын
makes it original except for the forks. This machine has factory war years replacement forks. Cool in it's own way, but they do detract from "all original"

HuntingHarleys Your comment makes perfect sense in that the 1936 EL Knuckle Head would not be factory original if replacing the Springer Forks with a 1939 Springer Forks. I see how having any year Knuckle Head in a completely original factory condition has to be a extremely rare Motorcycle. I wasn’t thinking about chrome when some of the parts were I think Nickel Plated? Like I wrote in my last comment your 1940 original Green painted Knuckle Head is a beautiful Motorcycle and an American Treasure. Anyone that is into Harley Davidson Motorcycles would be Extremely Proud too own this Motorcycle. I have owned 2 Knuckle Heads. 1 was a 1939 EL and the other was a 1946 Fl. Neither was in original condition when I purchased them. I chopped one and bobbed the other in the early 1970s. The Knuckle Head Motor is a work of art. Good luck in dealing with the AMA. They sound like they don’t realize that Harley Davidson did put pre or post year parts on their bikes when they ran out of them. You’re 100% right.Harley Davidson wasn’t going to shut down production if they had pre or post year parts when they ran out of the current year of manufacture. I really like your humor in how you point out that Harley Davidson would be using pre and post year parts on current year Motorcycles when they ran out, and the way you say this in some of your videos. I totally believe what you are saying. It makes 100% common sense. No reply necessary. I am rooting for you to get your 1940 Knuckle Head acknowledged as factory original condition when you get the few parts that you know aren’t original to this Motorcycles year of Manufacture.

It's a very nice motorcycle, however there's much "baloney" to this story witch may or may not be true. He's very certain about this motorcycle that was made before this man was even born.
