Great series of video content Dave. I've enjoyed them so much I have decided to take up Turkey hunting. I'm 59 yrs old and never hunted. I've only done some sport shooting. I have a very limited budget, so my question to you is: What camo pattern do you recommend as a good all rounder? I can only afford one set of clothing for this at the moment. I live just south of Atlanta and plan to stay in Georgia and South Carolina for the most part. I need to stay on the low cost side of the quality level also. Can you do a video for beginners on needed start-up equipment? Thanks again for the videos.

I can certainly feel the meaning and emotion in this one. My dad passed April 12th. So that's always a big deal for me in the spring. I like to take his old Wingmaster to the woods. Even if I don't hear a gobble, it just feels right.

Definitely been more pressure this year than normal in OH as well. I crawled up to a public land bird this weekend that hung up at 60 yards. Never would’ve even tried that before seeing how successful you are with that on stubborn birds.

One of your best. You boys worked for that loudmouth. Love the final story by your partner at the end. Wonder why he was a little choked up when he picked up the bird. Totally understand. My dad was a loner, no one even knew he died but me. He was cremated as ordered. The last few years I tried to get him out, go for a ride, go ice fishing, anything, Nothin doin. When I picked up the carboard box, I put him my passenger's seat and said, well dad, you ain't got no choice now, your going for a ride. He spent a year in my truck till I decided where he wanted to be spread. After a year of thinking on it. When he was 35ish, he, my mom, who he carried, polio, two kids and a dog would go deep in the Maine woods by boat, his favorite place to stay was a far remote island on a far remote lake, one week of fishing, a young wife, health, youth, camping, fishing, that's where he is now and forever. People would hop in my truck and I'd toss the box in the back, what's that they'd ask? It's my dad. The facial expressions where priceless.

Great hunt. Condolences on the passing of your dad. Great way to honor him. I've been hunting turkeys 41 years and I've seen more people in the woods this year than all the other years put together. Tomorrow is my last day to turkey hunt this year I only get about 6-8 days to hunt and I have never seen so many people in all my life I had to get to a spot at 3 am because by 4.30 10 trucks had already come by and most was out of staters

Y’all think y’all hunting a hunter rich environment, y’all should come hunt with me . Turkeys will gobble on the roost & start trucking in the opposite direction. You gotta out smart them. You gotta hit the call & pack up in a sprint in a big circle & shut up. Catch them walking out the back like a mature buck . These eastern are tough boy. They normally gobble around 15-30 times in the tree & by 8 am they shut down.

Dave I love your videos man. I think we all know where you’re at and that IS some highly pressured public land. I’d love to bump into you one day and chase a bird together. I’m the same way, if he’s gobbling steady I’ll follow that bird miles if I have to. When you find one that wants to play the game there’s nothing better. You guys done good that day.

Mike Bremer I like Dave but man he thinks everybody else hunting public land is an idiot and is doing it wrong.
@pinhotiproject4 жыл бұрын
This couldn’t be more incorrect. I appreciate and respect other ethical public land hunters. Do I question some of others tactics? It could be seen as that or maybe it’s observing? I’m sure everyone does- the only difference is mine are videoed and made public. Sometimes I take note and make a few tweaks of my own. Like next time I may owl 10-12 times in a in a row. It seemed to work. 😁
@shugman30904 жыл бұрын
Dave Owens: the Pinhoti Project I know this year has been frustrating for all public land hunters (I’m not one by the way), especially those who are used to being able to avoid the crowds.

Good woodsmanship and knowledge of turkey behavior got this turkey killed, so great job with that you guys. A note of caution, though, the same guy who will blow an owl call incessantly may not be too good at identifying what he is shooting at, so please keep that in mind when you are moving up on one.

You fellows bush wack more gobblers than you call in
@pinhotiproject4 жыл бұрын
I suppose it all depends on your definition of bushwhack. But we do rely on woodsmanship as our #1 tool and calling follows. If you can beat their eyes, you’ve done pretty good I figure.
