For anyone who may be wondering the reason why this happened to the game: From what I've heard Phoenix Labs (Dauntless' dev studio) got bought out by a blockchain company called Forte, and subsequently suffered massive layoffs. What you're seeing here with this new update is, more likely than not, Forte trying to milk the game and it's playerbase for every meager penny they're worth before shuttering the game once these obviously detrimental choices made in the name of maximized short term prodit take their toll.

That would explain a lot for why they changed the update . The update when they first announced it , was suppose to go where we still had all the old weapons but could only level them so much but we also would have new weapons to get that could be leveled up higher . Than they changed it to what we have now practically last minute

I hate this update 😢 Seems like you have to pay to max out a weapon unless you want to dump 100 hours on a single weapon. You do have to pay if you want to get different weapon elements within the same weapon type. The worst part is cells are now single use and destroyed on removal from gear, while you can only make a single set of each monster's gear. They just reset the entire game for everyone and made it more grindy. The worst part is my game crashes constantly and sometimes I cant even get past the sign in screen.

In my opinion, Dauntless Awakening is the best advertisement for Monster Hunter: Wilds that I've seen yet XD Seriously though. The reason why I say that, is because to me, Dauntless has lost the feeling one gets while they played it. It started out as a simple, easy to pick-up and play monster hunting game, that was also fun to play. The Cell system, was simple and easy to look at and understand, and we could create very strong builds that were effective and felt good to use. Now? The game feels like it was changed to make the grind all that matters. To increase playtime as well as incentizive the player to pay money to play effectively. Pristine Aetherite for example, the best resource where leveling weapons is concerned, becomes increasingly less effective the higer level your weapon is. Meaning, it won't give as much exp at level 49, as it did back at level 10. And said Pristine Aetherite can be bought in the marketplace, for $15 dollars. 1 Pristine Aetherite, for 15$ per, and it takes 30 or more to level up one's chosen weapon to max. If anyone wants to do the math, feel free. Not to mention, now we only have One Weapon Type, per element, and they can ONLY be obtained via the store for Weapon Tokens. Said Weapon Tokens are obtainable in game, slowly, but also through the store for real life money. Now to the cell system. It feels like all of our past builds were either nerfed to the ground, or are broken entirely. Any cell can be put into any cell slot now on any armor, BUT, armor perks don't immediately activate anymore. Before the update, you equip a helm that had Knockout King x2 or any other perk, and it's effects would activate just by wearing it, allowing you to deal that much more stagger damage or whatever. Now, you have to full fil the perk count requirement for that perk, which for the better perks require a 6-8 point investment. And most armor pieces will only have one cell slot. Meaning, you will have to juggle armor perk points, and cells to fulfill the full required perks to max just to use them, and you have to keep in mind you have TWO weapons. Two weapons that if you want to play effectively, need to be different weapon damage types. Blunt and slash for example, so you can stagger, break parts, and sever tails. But in order to make those feel good to use later on, you need to to increase their effectiveness via armor perk points and cell slots you would need to evenly split between the two weapons, and make sure you max out whatever perks you do have. Which all this to say, we end up with less active perks, leading to less effective builds, leading to me feeling like I've gotten significantly weaker. OR, just forgo the second weapon and only make one your main. It would allow you to better build into that weapon entirely, allowing you to give it every perk it needs to be effective and feel good to use, but then why bother running a second weapon at all? At that point, it's just there to pick up exp, instead of being a valued part of your arenal allowing you to stagger, and slash, or pierce, or burn, or whatever. Now again, this is my opinion. I don't want to discourage people to play it if they still find the game enjoyable. I'm just here, stating my OPINION, in that I don't think it's fun anymore. Which, after waiting for this update and being told we need to be hyped up for it, just makes me feel disappointment now that we actually have it. Because all in all, they removed more content than they added, and it just feels bad.

Cell system is arguably more simple than it used to be since there are no longer levels to the perks What helps this further is every armor set now has the same perks when leveled in a set, which makes it easier to find the perks you need It’s 100x more garbage tho because there’s only 1 level to the perks and because it takes more than 200 behemoths worth of parts in order to unlock a few weapon talents and weapons no longer have any customization outside of transmogrification

Jesus, the fall of this game has been PAINFUL to watch. Good hunting RPGs outside of monhun are hard to come by since Toukiden's probably a thing of the past, the Freedom Wars remaster is a way off yet and we haven't heard a peep out of God Eater for years, so it hurts to see something like this get almost assassinated by a godawful "haha now it's a stupid grindy mmo microtransaction simulator" update. For shame.

The weapons themselves, the two slots, the ultimate ability on every weapon, is fun. The problem is there's no weight to the weapons or combat, no sense of accomplishment when you make a new weapon. All the weapon finding quests are gone too. You don't discover the godhand, you buy it from a street vendor.

I saw 1 of the devs state they changed cells and armor so people werent using the same 8 damage cells every build to have more variety... which is cool except my axe throw damage on a level 20 axe with a build went from like 25k per throw consistently at 4 determination to the highest ive seen being 8k with a level 51 axe 3 determination. I'm honestly severely disappointed by Awakening. Figured I'd log in to check it out and found a lot of things I wasn't exactly hapy with... I had the hunger and molten edict before the update so it's cool I got to start with them. The problem though is that the devs seem to have done a complete 180 on their monitization structures and the level of grind required to make progress for new players is going to be insane. I decided to check out a progression reset just because what I came back to the game with left me feeling like WTF am I supposed to do with all this junk when I don't even know what I'm doing now. Overall I might get back in and regrind again to see what end game feels like, provided I have the drive to get there.

Also great that they somehow made all of the hitboxes worse??? I've been getting hit by things that I could just dodge through before (although that might be because of the skill that icreases i-frames). Not to mention the music not working sometimes, the new behemoth being exclusively locked behind an event that isn't guaranteed to happen (so I haven't even been able to fight it yet!), the broken aether vent animation, not fixing any previous bugs regarding other broken animations, clipping into things, the aforementioned hitboxes, removing the Middleman from the game (which is honestly the worst crime of all)... Atleast we get to do the *entire fucking tutorial* again to remind us of how abysmal this game is! On the flipside, your silly commentary and edits do still make this a worthwhile watch! And, credit where it's due: they did give Valomyr 2 new attacks! They probably have done it with a couple others, but it's the only one I've seen so far.

This game was good. It had its issues but it was good easy to learn a good leveling system and very little microtransactions. I genuinely don't even know how you can screw up a game this much. You can use dauntless in an example video of how to not kill a game

I was there when Dauntless transitioned to Reforge. All Exp on weapons gone and ABSOLUTELY NO ONE was properly compensated with the materials to level up the weapons. I played dauntless from the beginning...i stopped playing because the game gave me no reason aside from the constant gear grind to play...and the grind itself was just getting boring and not fun for me personally, but it was the main mechanic of the game itself and while i may not be the main audience of a game like this, i personally like more story in games i did wish there was a sort of story or campaign but eh....how did they remove the game part...FROM THE GAME!

I wouldn’t exactly lay all the blame on the devs. Apparently a lot of them were dismissed by their new parent company according to some comments.

@TonyJenn they've been on reddit and discord deleting posts talking negative about this update. They put out a letter to the community that just ignores the dumpster fire that is outside their door and pretends everything's fine. The parent company didn't do that.

its shame the game is far worse, MH needs a competition to not be comfortable in the genre, I thought that Wild Hearts be a great game but is dead too.

I haven’t played Dauntless in many years. I actually like this current iteration more than I remember playing before. Just feels more streamlined. Having two weapons at once feels nice too.

i noticed Josh was using the Silver Sword, and i made a relatively quick research on the Dauntless Wiki about it. for context, last i checked, the Silver Sword could be obtained by finding its pieces (i think it was 3) scattered throughout a specific island, then acquire a near-impossible-to-get item, and then finally reforge the weapon. but now, the Wiki says it's just *given* to you; in the Training Grounds - aka the *starting map* - when you *first arrive.* in other words - and because the Wiki doesn't specify - if i were to play Dauntless again, and i CAN (all i have to do is re-download it on my Switch, since i archived the game), then all i have to do is go to the Training Grounds, and this Legendary-tier Sword just given to me? if that's the case, then honestly, that's even better than finding the pieces and reforging it with a near-impossible-to-get item! and i LOVE the Silver Sword's design. 6:42 you're telling me it's THAT easy to get the Silver Sword!? just go to the Training Grounds, grab it, and you get to *KEEP it?!* because if it's the case, then that's fantastic! 18:00 heheheee, there he is; there's my boy! the Drask, with his lightning breath!

That's probably a transmog my guy. I use the same one for one of my sword sets. You just earn it buy doing weekly challenges to obtain a certain currency.

yeah, its one of the starter weapons. the other ones take weapon tokens that you get from the battle pass or from buying for cash. can't really farm for weapons anymore. you just buy them.
