This is mostly raw mining footage finding many great crystals!
While digging for Halite Crystals, Aaron Van Dorn of Red DIrt Rockhounds from Oklahoma and I decided to walk the distance across the salt fields to a secret selenite location!
Selenite is a type of gypsum
This is a private location in Oklahoma we are digging
Be sure to check out Red DIrt Rockhounds on Facebook

I love how even after all the 1000's of rocks you guys have pulled out of the ground, you still get excited about every single one. I hope someday I can have a job I love that much.

When i see the raw selenite and then look at my polished up selenite wand, I truly understand how magical these little guys are! They’re so good at capturing and reflecting light. Such beautiful work that nature does.

South Dakota selenite wands are not polished or made of "satin spar" gypsum(technically not selenite since its not clear), and they are double terminated floater crystals with record keeper growth lines. I will say though, this Oklahoma selenite he dug, is fantastic. I have seen a good amount of these sold, and each one was unique and special in its own way. Like mother natures "windows". Its my favorite selenite of all...the stuff in this video

While walking through my neighbors yard showing it to a potential tenant for my landlord something shiny caught my eye. It was a very well etched Selenite crystal. Not very big but it has awesome details and pretty good clarity. It made my day to find it laying literally in the grass.

A hill and land full of selanite, you were in a wonderful spot Brian, your excitement and enthusiasm comes across so well in your videos. Lived in OK for most of my child and teenage years. While it's rare to find completely clear ones you can find the hour glass selenite or commonly refered to as mudslide selenite all over not to mention lots of dessert rose if anyone is interested its all over just talk to the people in the town's. That's how I got my collection started.

Johnmighty;D selenite is an evaporite. As a lake bed evaporates, the calcium sulfate dissolved in the water becomes more concentrated. When it reaches a critical point, it crystalizes out of solution. So you might say the surface falls away from the crystal. This layer may subsequently be buried.

I am so crazy in love with Selenite that it actually made me flinch to see pieces tossed aside (I mean, you can't take the hill back with ya lol) pieces being stepped on, falling, etc. I think I'd lug a giant wagon or huge sacks etc and fill em to the brim. If it took me two days to get back, so be it. I'm convinced this is exactly what a huge corner of MY Heaven looks like. Love love love

You would use this stuff...it would scratch, flake, and chip all the time. Being that a fingernail easily scratches gypsum, especially clear/colorless selenite, so its not wise to handle or place things on it

I found a spot like this south of Sunrise Mountain in Las Vegas years ago... so much selenite you couldn't possibly choose what to keep. It was a very thick vein and produced some large water-clear massive slabs plus tons of smaller terminated crystals. I'm sure by now it's been converted to a subdivision, but it was a nice way to kill an afternoon when I lived there.

i know what this is like haha. I had about 2kg of selenite from spain (though, selenite is usually the name for the prismatic crystals rather than the rhombohedral ones). once you find a few crystal clear ones, you become a lot more picky. the semi amorph plates are rather worthless anyway. gypsum is SO abundant but nice crystals stay fun :)
