My family and I were there a few years ago standing in that same spot. I had no idea I was standing on boulders of kona dolomite! But, that was before I started this rock hounding/tumbling hobby. Now I really need to get back there and pick up a few spare pieces.

Great video, Craig! I love how you took the time to teach people about responsible collecting practices! I wonder if that tailings pile is still the highest point in Michigan? 🤔

Great advice, Craig. I know dolomite comes in many different colors. I'd love to see more spots where we can find green, blue and others. Do you know about spots driving near Drummond Island? Our UP is so packed with true natural wonders. Can't wait to get back up there. Thanks for all your posts. So informative!

In WISCONSIN we have the equivalent Bad River Dolomite. I built an indoor chimney and wall with green and white veinstone.

Hi Craig, we would like to stop at Mount Marquette Overlook on our way to Mclain State Park in September. You mention that it is easy to get to "if you have the right car". We have a Subaru Outback and will be towing a 13' Scamp trailer. Can we get there? Thanks, love your videos will all the great information.

I see that, that about is the only place to find the Kona...? Very cool. Where I live in Southern California, people have already wrecked just about everything, where ever you go.

Let me at that site - I'll bring a crew and we'll jackhammer the place clean! No Mercy. Bwahahaha Just kidding...
