A good friend of mine constantly had trespassing hunters come onto his property regardless of his signage. He would tell me about these people and we would scheme up deterrents like this to keep them away all the time...but one day, my friend told me a story of this man, about our age, who came to his doorstep, and proceeded with a story that he had been tracking some wild hogs that lead him up to a fence with signage on it. He used his phone to get a view of the property to find where the owners residence might be in respect to his location which turned out wasnt very far from the direction he had approached, so he backtracked to his vehicle and drove to the main driveway leading up to my friends house to request permission for access onto his property to hunt these wild hogs. He showed his licenses/tags to prove he was being sincere. My friend was so taken back by how respectful this guy was he told the man that he could hunt his grounds for pig, for free, whenever he would like, to help keep the population in check, as long as he called ahead of time so there was knowledge of his presence in case of emergency. Now, He is one of our closest friends and visits, to both hunt and hang out regularly.

True story. My brother-in-law lives in southern Michigan. He invited a neighbor to go deer hunting with him on property he owns near Lake City in the north. Two weeks later he went back and found all his driveway gates taken down. He set up cameras and guess who he saw taking the gates down again ? The same downstate neighbor he took hunting once. Some people just suck.

A friend of ours had some rural property and guys with Jeeps would regularly crash through his wood gate and tear up the property with their 4x4s. My dad welded up a heavy steel gate for him and then attached the remains of the wood gate to it. My dad worked in the shipyard as a welder and had a tendency to over build things. Next time it happened it bent the steel gate and there were pieces of Jeep laying there. That definitely put a stop to them.

That reminds me of a story I heard a while back. There was a man who was retired from I believe the navy.he moved out to the country. Down his road wasn't too many people but he had one neighbor next to him. Well there was someone that would always speed down that road the guy lived on and taking out mailboxes all the time. Everyone knew who he was and always reported him but nothing would happen to him because his dad was the sheriff of the local police department and he was a crooked cop. Well after that young punk took out his and his next door neighbors mailbox one too many times the guy finally had enough. He made a few phone calls and managed to get one of those old fashioned looking ship anchor that looked like a double hook. He buried the hook ends down in the ground, attached some wood to the outside of the anchors that was out of the ground, and he attached his and his next door neighbor's mailbox to it. Well one evening that same dude come flying down the road in his car and *WHAM* hit the anchor. Not only did he hit it hard enough to do front end damage to the car but he hit it with enough force that one of the hooks from the anchor uprooted out of the ground and stabbed the bottom of the dudes car. Dude had been drinking and he was underage too. The man called county police out there because he knew if he called the local police the crooked Sheriff would of probably let him go that night. Well dude did call his dad to try and bail him out but because county was there they told him he can't get involved.

I was given 120 acres when my uncle passed away. No one in the family had ever hunted and to my knowledge it hadn’t been hunted by anyone. I went out to check the property and saw some deer signs. I went and met the people with the neighboring properties and they all said that they never hunted it and had never heard shots or anything. I had caught some small bucks on camera and spent the next 2 years developing plots and mineral sites and what not. Finally after those 2 years I decided it was time to start trying to hunt it. I head out after opening weekend (I was working and couldn’t hunt) and check the the camera and I’ll be damned if one of the neighbors wasn’t caught on camera shooting one of the biggest bucks on the property. I asked him about it and he said no he doesn’t even own a rifle. I ended up making a poaching report to my local game warden and had his arrested. Nothing I hate more than a poacher. All that time and money just for someone else to take it

After I stopped laughing, it reminded me of so many trespass complaints I had to deal with as a Deputy in my county years ago. I assisted many a land owner in cutting tree stands out of trees on their lands that trespassers installed. Many had the owners names a-fixed to them so it was easy to find them for citations. IN some cases the land owners took & kept the stands in lieu of citations issued. Expensive ways to learn lessons. Trespassers were advidsed that it was not so many years ago that trespassers were dealt with in far more severe ways if the land owners caught them !!
@SlyFireVR

I suppose it depends on who and where you're trespassing. I know certain states won't let you shoot or otherwise unless you've given a verbal warning their presence isn't welcome or that they're trespassing, even still, sometimes you still don't have the right to shoot until they try to harm you. And (thankfully) in Ireland, if you have a hole or something else that someone is trespassing can hurt themselves on, you're liable if they do

I live out in the boons. A few years back we had the sudden burst of richy city folks buying up land out where I live. Someone bought the land that connects partly to my property. It was a big wooded area and they built a house on one end where they cut a road into the road I live on. Well these people cut a line of tree's out on the edge of their property and put up a barbwire fence up against my barbwire fence. They had the bright idea to build a big fort looking deer stand on the back of their property. Their dumb mistake was that the stands was due to them clearing out the trees on the edge of their property is that I can see the deer stand clear as day from my front porch and if I can see it that clearly from my front porch it's way too close to my property line and it's within a certain amount of distance from my house/property and my next door neighbor's house/property. Well after a few calls to the proper authorities richy rich had to tare down the deer stand.

To the few people who are commenting negatively, if you want to hunt on land, then ask permission (and pay, land isn't free) or buy your own land (which will be a lot more expensive). It's not that complicated. The reason landowners care about illegal trespassing and hunting is, NUMBER 1 it is dangerous to have lots of people out hunting in the woods with long rifles at the same time, number 2 they are concerned about property damage that often is accompanied by reckless hunters (the kind that don't ask permission), number 3 they paid for the land and have the right to control who hunts it, in reasonable states you aren't allowed to just waltz onto anybody's private land and hunt there. There is nothing more aggravating than clueless, disrespectful hunters, believe me.
@georgewilson5615
@georgewilson5615 7 жыл бұрын
only problem is if anyone did ask they would have been paint bombed i don't know a bout you but that would have made me very upset. Also any deer walking the property would also have been paint bombed and it is illeagal to harass game in any way. And what about game agents in the area, or God forbid a lost child or even a lost disoriented adult . I hope the land owner went to jail over this . And yes I am a hunter who either hunts state land friends property or asks for permission, and it is not that easy 100 no's to one yes. is average
@Smullet90
@Smullet90 7 жыл бұрын
George Wilson Obviously if he asked for perrmission they said no, since they have paint traps as a deterrent for illegal trespassers. The problem is your mindset; you ask as a formality, and you'll obviously hunt it either way. You're a clueless hunter. Sincerely, a hunter and landowner.

When i was 16, some guys I didn't even know were out on the back of my farm, during rifle deer season. And I was walking all up and down our huge property, trying to drive deer to my dad. who was over the hill waiting for the deer. I saw the three guys and purposely walked back and forth in front of and behind them. I could hear them bitching to each other about me ruining their hunt on our property. Finally, one of them gets up off the ground and starts yelling at me. He said, "You're RUINING OUR HUNT! You're too young to be hunting alone. Where's your dad? Get out of here." At that moment, i asked them if they had permission to hunt here. They said yes. I asked who they got the permission from, and they started to argue with me again. I told them they were trespassing, and they had 10 seconds to grab their shit and disappear. One of the guys said, "You're too young to legally hunt alone. Where's your dad?" (I was legal to hunt my own property at age 12, I was 16 then, and very much the man of the house.) *"I'M RIGHT HERE,"* shouted my dad from 20 yards away. He'd heard them yelling at me, and he stalked in. He said, "By my count, 8 of those 10 seconds are gone." And he raised his Winchester 30-30 to his shoulder, aiming the barrel at their feet. I just stood still. I never saw three guys run so fast. That was over 40 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. When you trespass knowingly on somebody else's property, you better be prepared for whatever happens. It might be your last trespass. We weren't going to hurt them, but my dad sure scared them enough that I'll bet they all had to shower together and change their shorts. They never came back. Which was good for them.

He gave up and let me use part of it for one of my hobbies, wine making. after my third batch I noticed deer tracks. fifth batch and they are hot and heavy. Like it looks like a deer rave. I mention to him that the deer sure are thick out there and he loses his mind. Turned out the deer were attracted to the place I dumped out my dead yeast after the brew was over. Stuff stunk to high heaven but those deer must have thought it was candy. My dump site ended up with a stand about 75 yards down wind from it.

Tresspassing and poaching is a really great way to get shot. It wouldn’t necessarily be anything but an accident too, if the owner is hunting on their own land, and drops a shot in your direction because he doesn’t know that a person is down range.

I believe trespassing to hunt in some areas is also considered poaching. Trespassing while armed and poaching are both pretty serious and can be dangerous offenses...and dangerous people to catch. I've actually been shot at by people doing that activity when I caught them.

@@williambrandondavis6897 Concidering you are not so bright...its often better to sit back and look the fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. As you did. Trapping is still legal in many states, but only using either live barrel traps, or “bucket style” traps. But still bear traps, fool! The point of using these traps is that neither actually hurt the bear, they just keep it in place, then the trapper comes along once a day at least and checks his traps. You get to see if it is a legal harvest or let it go. You see...killing the bear in season is not illegal...and many people put bear traps out and claim it is open the couldnt find last hunt. People who get hurt in any way when entering marked private property have no recourse through law..they are tresspassers. So no felony at all...again the fool. And lets look at who he was talking about....his grandfather.....which makes me believe that he would have been hunting sometime around the 60`s to 80`s??? Did you even think before shittzing between your teeth?? No laws against trapping bears existed in most states at that time either. Most anti trapping laws came into effect during the 90s. Now who looks like they are full of crap???? I bet you cuddle bears for a living...right?? Treehugger!

We loaded heavy oil paste paint into a 12 gauge shell. Then we shot it at a canvass for an art project in school. It only left a two inch wide spot on the canvas, but when we looked closer it had torn through and covered the neighbors house behind the canvass in red paint....Big mess. We finally found the right consistency and it worked very well for an outstanding grade. Live and learn.

As an Australian I know just how bad it is, they (being mostly pigs) DESTROY every last patch of grass they see, imagine a farm of any sort with that type of destruction, also because of the increase in vegans (equals more crops) we even need to hunt birds, kangaroo's, pigs, rabbits and a few rarer animals that don't pop up as much as the rest, I think once there was a farmer that lost over $1.8m in just vegetables. Wouldn't be surprised if you are against guns also.

@@AFreeThinkingDawg09 everyone needs to respect private lands. If there are signs that say stay out you definitely should stay out. However, I wouldn't say people who get lost are seeking to get lost. Even the most veteran hunters can get lost in unfamiliar woods if they aren't paying close attention to their surroundings. This incident that happened to me, happened over a decade ago, when I was a new hunter. In all honesty, you're right, I had no business trying out new areas when I was still directionally challenged out in the woods as a new hunter. At the time I figured if I walk straight into the woods, all I had to do was walk straight back. No way I could get lost. Didn't turn out that way. I'm just glad the owner was understanding and helped me get back to my car. Can't just go get your hunters safety and think you're ready to go be a hunter. It's amazing. This video is "infrared" so it's obviously nighttime. Except, he's seeing the paint on the rifle to wipe it off with a rag, and wiping his body and face he can clearly see it on the rag when he looks at it. He must have night vision eyeballs since he CLEARLY isn't wearing NVG's, and he just happened to be right where a camera was setup, and conveniently he moved into perfect framing, and the camera... THE CAMERA had PERFECTLY sensitive microphone so it could capture a when he whispers. Come to think of it.... seems like it's actually black and white video with probably an infrared filter applied in post processing, of a daytime video, with a wireless lavaleir mic, and staged.

OK, Ok, I lost my breath there, OMG that is so perfect. I have a sheep ranch surrounded by forest. The entire ranch is posted every 25 feet, no hunting in like 15 languages, no trespassing, dog will be shot on site, gaurd dog on premises. You know people still trespass and get really mad when my dogs chase them off the property.

I know they speak English because they always curse me in English when I open fire on them. One day I will hit one and I am legally able to do so in my state.

Trespassing hunters are the worst. I leave my land unhunted periodically to reduce hunting pressure for the next season. Well some people decided they had more right to use my land than I do. This past season someone stole the Plexiglas windows and carpet from my permanent blind. Not only that but they left the door wide open all winter and the hinge broke. Even worse are the goons who stole several of our cedar ad hickory trees. Yes, entire trees Needless to say every access point is clearly posted and under day/night video surveillance now.

+Crazed Monk Trespassers are douche bags, but you do not have the right to shoot them in any state. Now if they're actually attempting to get in your house itself that's a different issue entirely. But you can't just go around shooting anybody that steps foot on your property. It makes zero difference whether you've posted signs indicating you will or not.

As a forester I've literally stood talking to trespassers with the PRIVATE/PASS BY PERMISSION signs posted all around us - and they claim they did not see them. But without the signs, there is practically zero chance to enforce private property. Forest landowners need to know that if they do not attempt to protect their property from trespass either through signs, fencing, gates, etc. they could possibly forfeit that privacy - and a long assumed right to pass can become a prescriptive easement or implied dedication situation that cannot be undone. A lot of trespassers and sneaky neighbors are WELL AWARE of this.

CrazyCayden You need to get some kind of evidence he has done this. I recommend a game camera, or if you are there, use your phone camera. Always ask if they know they are trespassing on property posted as private so there can be no doubt about their intentions to ignore the posting. You need to find out if this person is claiming some prior right to enter - and if he does he needs to prove it. Simply saying he always had the right is not legally sufficient. These kinds of conflicts are best handled in a conversation before things escalate. It could be he has portions of his land you need access to or across, or he has a backhoe you can borrow etc. Forest neighbors can work together if they respect each other.
@jcaled24
@jcaled24 7 жыл бұрын
CrazyCayden If I may... If you don't have proof, and I mean basically have them on camera doing it... Calling the cops will be a waste of your time. The burden of proof is much different in civil court tho... So there's always the option of suing them for the 'damage' done to your property plus all legal fees. There you will only have to convince a jury it's more likely than not that they trespassed and took down your sign. MUCH easier route to go...

The wild hogs, and other animals make quick work of any type of body left laying around throughout Texas back country. Any "oops" would be hard to find in a day or two. I do agree that doe scent combined with paint would have been more fun. We have trespassers, students from the university farm that borders our land that have poached deer, and also shot and left deer to wander off and slowly die in our back yard, and it has been happening for years. It is extremely difficult to catch poachers and vandals in the act. And they have no respect for purple paint, lots of "No Trespassing" signs, fences, or anything else. This "paint the perpetrator" is a wonderful idea!!!!! I would love more information on how to set it up effectively.

You lost any credibility as soon as you started slinging insults. How about you learn how to make an argument without needing to use insults. If you reread your comment you would see the source of confusion. Maybe if you reworded it it would make more sense. Let me fix that sentence for you "Most of them think they are not doing anything wrong and think they are entitled to hunt where they want." Maybe you need a better understanding of the English language.
