@2:40: There is a practical way to use the thin wild rabbit skin: If you cut it directly when ists fresh in the form of a long spiral so that you actually end up with a long rope and then twist it while being stretched (lets say tied with one end to a thin tree) in a way that the meat sides of the fur rope you made attach to each other you create a fur rope which then can be used for your clothing.

Cool vid, Ryan! You hunt in paradise! Rabbits must be thick in Florida. The Thompson bros. loved Florida for a reason!
@larryreese61463 жыл бұрын
Question: I have enjoyed watching your hunts for bison, elk, pig, deer, and rabbits with Atlatl, bow, and smooth bore . But I have never seen you craft and hunt with a blow gun. Why? The Cherokee and most of the Southeastern Tribes used them to good advantage on small game and looks to me they would be mighty handy for squirrel, rabbits, and birds. So I'm putting in a request to see you do that.

my dad showed me a long time ago how to skin a rabbit with just my fingers, we did how ever use a knife to disembowel it. Ah I miss those days of hunting with my dad. Good vid Mr. Gill I'm sure if my dad was still alive he'd approve.

I enjoyed the video. Of course, I love Cottontail Rabbit meat, almost as much as I like Venison. I saw a way last year on a different site, that showed how to gut them, without even cutting them open. You grab them with a really firm grip, where the throat meets the head, then you essentially squeeze them all the way down like a tube of toothpaste, and the end trails, will fall out the rectum onto the ground. I'll be trying that method this year, because I'm always afraid, that I'm going to nick the bladder, or get feces on the meat, and this looks like it will prevent that from happening. I love your videos, and all your information. Thank you for sharing your vast amounts of knowledge.

Can you sharpen stone knives on a stone?And if so what sort of stone is best?
@huntprimitive99183 жыл бұрын
no, they unfortunately do not take an edge like steel does. To sharpen stone knives you must chip a new edge exposing the fresh broken edges. I have a video i think called "stone knives for beginners" where I talk about all this stuff

I see so much about having to worry about tularemia in rabbits when it's warm out. Is this one of those things that overblown or is it a real concern?
@b.gainzzz-h4y3 жыл бұрын
It’s pretty overblown the only thing that you have to worry about is if it’s near civilization because then it could be eating trash which would cause it to possibly have diseases but if you are in a wooded area and ur at least a few miles away from human territory then you will be fine

Hey Ryan doesn't it matter if the water you wash the kill out with is steril? or does it sterilize when you cook it?
@mongolloyd52363 жыл бұрын
It sterilizes when you cook it, not to mention the water is moving water which is way better than cleaning the carcass in stagnant water.

@huntprimitive99183 жыл бұрын
our seasons overlap for the most part. I don't have different bows for different seasons. Stuff like rabbits, raccoons, and hogs are open year round so I am typically hog hunting and looking for other small game as well. When deer season comes in, I add those to the list as well
