It is an excelent pellet testing the one that you performed onto your Gamo Swarm Magnum rifle. I liked the conclusion that you arrived: the "domed" or almost "domed" pellets work better with your rifle Gamo Swarm Magnum. By the way, I am surprised about the behaviour of the Gamo Raptor PBA pellet, since the manufacturer advertises that this pellet is accurate and fast enough, now I realize that maybe the reason of not being accurate is because of it´s low weight, and once the pellet is traveling through the air, it becomes deviated from its trajectory. Thanks for your video and best regards.

The raptors go supersonic in the Gamo magnums. When they slow down below supersonic, the waves it created catch up to it and push it all over. It's like going full throttle in a boat then suddenly cutting the fuel. The wave catches up and pushes the bow off course.

They are great for target practice. Problem with the Premiers is that they don't expand well. For hunting they dump very minimal energy upon contact. And will pass right through barriers! H&N has terrific accuracy and great prices at $10 for all tins except the specialty pellets!

I have a Gamo swarm Magnum gen1, a Gamo swarm fusion gen2, and a Benjamin trail np2 all 22 cal and a Umarex Gauntlet 22 cal. The Gauntlet is a pcp but the other 3 are break barrel and they all do really good with the Crosman premier 14.3 grain pellets, no matter hollow, round or pointed, they shoot them pretty much the same. All of my guns group about the same as yours did with the Crosman but my Fusion likes the Gamo red fire just a little bit more. I HAVEN'T TRIED ANY ALLOYS OTHER THAN COPPER ! THE ALLOYS ARE WAY FASTER BUT I FEEL THEY WOULD WORK BETTER OUT OF A SINGLE BREAK BARRELS FOR THE MOST PART! I tried lead 22 cal. Exite bye h&n they were pretty good 15.76 grains but the h&n barracuda 18.52 grains shot good pattern but didn't penetrait like i thought they would only pellet deep and maybe twice that in some areas but the copper works the best on multiple shot mags spike or dome! Great video thanks I fount the flat points gave me the best groups in my Gamo varmint .177 followed by the dome. The crosman premier match grade .177 cal. 7.9 gr, was getting 1/2" - 3/4" at 15 yards and the trigger on the Gamo Varmint. is the worst trigger I have ever shot. Have a Gamo Replay 10X Magnum IGT .22 cal on its way hopping the trigger is better on it, Also had to change the scope on the Gamo Varmint it was use less, Do not know why they would even put a garbage scope on a rifle like that. I would like to see some shooting flat points on paper, as I have found them group the best in other air rifles I have had. The little bet of weight difference makes a huge difference on penetration. Shooting a 1" spruce board the 7.45 gr. flat points would not even come close to going through but the 7.9gr. went clean through every time. If they go through a 1" board they should kill a squirrel no problem.

It's been a while since I watched this video but I keep coming back to it because it is so practical. If you have a bunch of light pellets and use them exclusively in the weaker Gamo Whisper can you season a barrel to "like" it more? Or would you just use it for close in shots sub 30 yards? Those pellets have to be good for something. It doesn't make sense that Gamo would invest and develop a pellet that shoots fast but isn't accurate in any of its rifles. There has got to be some practical application. Would you do a video specifically addressing this question as to what distance a light weight pellet can be used to get adequate penetration and accuracy out of a lower powered rifle? Maybe out of a pump gun like a cheap Crosman 1322 or 392 where the power can be easier to manipulate/regulate. I know that it at least works in .177 with my Crosman 1377. But I have no lower powered .22 rifles or pistols and thought you might have more success with the Whisper or a 1322, 392 if you have one. Anyway, thanks again for your very excellent pellet review and evaluation. Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.

@Ken Fan I’d say once you have a barrel “broken in”, 50 shots at least, it is shooting as good as it will. Pellet rifle, centerfire, rimfire, it just doesn’t seems to matter. Every gun likes different bullets/pellets and there is no rhyme or reason. Even two of the same guns from the same manufacturer may like different brand and weight pellets. The penetration test with lighter pellets is a good idea. I will put that on my list for potential future videos. Thank you and God bless!

Well, here I am a minute after the initial review. Edit: The cheapest pellets performed well, don't you think? To be expected from a company that has made them since lead was invented. What do you think about the velocity difference between winter and now?
@HuntShootLive
@HuntShootLive 3 жыл бұрын
@Ric Havic The magnum is good for a break barrel pellet rifle. It shoots several of the inexpensive options fairly well. Rifle ballistics decrease in cold weather because cold air is more dense so I assume it would be slower in cold weather. I did a video testing the velocity of this and the swarm whisper and was underwhelmed compared to their advertised speed. Check out my pellet rifle playlist for that one. It is still good for break barrel though. PCP is better I’m sure. I like the swarm whisper for the price to performance. The swarm whisper is also a little more enjoyable to shoot due to decreased recoil. The magnum is still shooting just as well though since I did this vid.

@@HuntShootLive hey, thanks for the reply. I have followed the airgun info thing since squirrels took up residence in my barn. My fault. Allowed walnut volunteers to live with the plan to sell nuts and retire on the mature wood. Self pruning and never drove a nail. They were getting to gunstock size-18 inch gauge at four feet and producing more nuts than I could market when a tornado turned them into firewood. There were several veneer grade trees, and one that grew in the shade. It was six inch gauge when we moved in. Ten inch twenty years later when it blocked the driveway. I need a new retirement plan. If you got this far, thanks. But squirrels aren't nice tenants. Got a Ruger Impact at Wally World. It dispatched squirrels when it hit them. Maybe 600 fps, .22. Crossman 14.8 domes. Ruger pellets are in gram weight. They worked well too. The Gamo redfire? For the money and performance, Crossman.

Shakey tape when you're trying to measure the groups,it's effecting those groups guaranteed. I'd take this "test" with a grain of salt. Back in the late 70's early 80's as a 7-10 yr old I shot better groups at 50yds with old crossman pellets out of a Daisy 880 and one of those little junk scopes......I used to use the same air rifle to hunt squirrels out to around 75. No need for a drop compensating scope when you can do it once you know your drop rate.... Also must take into account hot/cold weather just as any other rifle..but more so in an air rifle

@@HuntShootLive Sometimes this is true,but the majority of times it is the user and an air rifle is more prone to inaccuracy's due to it like black powder is.. With me using a .243 for everything in the lower 48 you need to have pinpoint accuracy to get a kill at longer ranges and slightest shaking isn't going to accomplish that..... I'd rather keep my .243 and use my shooting skill than have to rely on a big cal and mag rifles to take up for my inadequacies. With that .243 I have worked up reloads by the .1 grain to get the best round.It took many upon many rounds to get it the best it can be,from different primers,cases,powder,and bullet......even different lot #'s often change the performance.With that they don't shoot decent in a few others I've tried and the ones that shoot good in the others doesn't shoot well in it.It's the same with all rifles.With the air rifle it's the same but all you can easily do is test and test till one finds the best one.....grains and shape of pellet is the only thing you can change. @@HuntShootLive Just out of curiousity, since you do a lot of hunting, if you focus on head shots but miss the brain, are you more likely to kill the animal with a heavier grain pellet or a lighter grain pellet? I would think that a lighter grain pellet would cause more hydrostatic shock and the heavier pellet would be more likely to pass through. And where do you aim for broadside headshots? In front of the ear, behind the ear, or right in the ear? Also, have you tried washing pellets with Dawn dish washing liquid? And does it have a considerable affect on accuracy? I've never done it before but have come across a couple of videos that suggest it does. Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.

@@kenfan5666 Heavier, slower pellets release more energy into the target upon contact, mushrooming and creating a bigger wound channel. Faster moving pellets retain more energy, usually increasing the chances of a pass through or even bouncing right off if using too light of a weight PBA. The key is don't go too light or too heavy, you want to find the right balance. You need one heavy enough to take what ever you are targeting, but you want to maintain enough velocity to penetrate the scull. Most important is find a pellet that your gun shoots accurately enough that you are confident that you can put it where it need to be every time. Most small game will drop as long as you hit it in the head. Pigs and coyote size animals are where hitting the brain is critical.

This is follow up on the BSA Optics Sweet .22 Scope for the Gamo Maxium .22 G2 break barrel gun. I purchased this cope and had it mounted. It looked and seem to work BUT today I noticed that the scope’s mounting brackets (11mm) were sliding back to you as I fired the gun. The back mounting bracket was just about to slide off the back of the rail. Does anyone know how to fix this problem to keep the scope from moving. I have tightened down the mounting brackets very secure.

Those Gamo PBAs very rarely work well in any pellet rifle. I have seen dozens and dozens of videos where people just have very poor performance from them. I have also had nothing but bad performance out of these pellets in both of my rifles.

@@HuntShootLive I think so, I think different pellet rifles with different rifling would be better. I have no idea what pellet rifles typically have 4 twist rate because they typically do not advertise that kind of thing, but just like firearms twist rate matters even in pellet guns. But then igen those PB a pellets are shaped differently than other pellets. I'm thinking the combination of twist rate, light weight, and pellet shape all have something to do with their poor performance, generally speaking.
@HuntShootLive
@HuntShootLive 3 жыл бұрын
@Bradikal I didn’t think of twist rate. I’d say you are right. The twist rate isn’t fast enough for the light pellets.

Hey mate. Greetings from New Zealand 🇬🇸 Have you had any loading mechanism problems ? I mean.. pellets not getting seated properly in to the barrel. I was getting lead shavings on the magazine with the h&n field target trophy 14. something Think that the breech closing was clipping the back of the pellet skirts and the shot were all over the place.

@freddieNZ68 Man I would love to hunt red stag in New Zealand!!!! The only problem I’ve had so far was with the Gamo raptors. They wouldn’t load correctly and would just fall out of mag or barrel. Not sure exactly what was going on. Even the few that did chamber shot like crap so I didn’t mess with them much. I did read online about the problem you are having. Some people were saying the modified the length of that tube (not sure how) and it solved the problem. One guy commented that Gamo sent him some replacement part but he still had the same problem. Sorry I can’t be more helpful with that. Seemed to be a lot of talk about it Online though.

@@HuntShootLive thanks for replying mate. You are very welcome to come this part of the world and have a go at hunting our red stag. 🇬🇸 Yeah I think they talk about the prob that pushes the pellet out of the magazine and into the barrel. hello friend i always follow you, can you help me to solve my doubt? my name is tommy and i write from italy i bought the gamo replay magnium gen2 5,5mm 45 joules, in reality they are only 35, it goes from 32 to max 37 joules. I am not, in your opinion, an expert for hunting use, does 5 joules more or less make a lot of difference? let me explain better, from 40 to 35 joules if you hit a small wild boar does it make a difference or approximately, is it the same thing to kill the prey? thanks, greetings from Italy
@HuntShootLive
@HuntShootLive 2 жыл бұрын
@thomas carboni It’s such a small caliber I can’t say if those 5 joules makes a difference. It’s just such a small pellet and it’s slow compared to centerfire rifle. Check out my recent test on the whitetail deer. These pellet rifles may have a chance of killing big game but shot placement has to be perfect. Not worth the chance of wounding game in my opinion. Some may disagree with me but I would not hunt big game with them.
