This is such a help. I am so grateful for this learning. The devil is always in the details. Miss the foundation and the 'house' never gets built right. Cheers to you all who give a damn, and your time, to help beginners become more.

Thanks Nigel - very helpful. Just need to now get the family out of the house for the afternoon so I can enjoy a few hours of uninterrupted buzzing.

Thank you, Nigel! I still don't see how you're doing those triplets (coups de six or whatever you would call them), but I'm inspired to try anyway. Here goes!

Superb rendition, however, I am currently constructing my own 'Symphonie' gurdy, and I am right on the threshold of designing the Trompette mechanism. I appreciate how it works, but I have never actually seen a 'live' Hurdy Gurdy other than on KZbin clips, so a close look at the buzzing bridge set-up would be very much appreciated. i.e. working. There a lots of still pictures, but a swift gander at how it works might save me hours of experimenting....!!!! I would be eternally grateful...!!

Seems to me that the more we "think" about the technical side of it, the less it happens! 🙂 When we feel the music, the "coups de trompette" happen at the right spots, and the famous "1 2 3 4" is not happening at the same position for everyone.

absolutely. my dad prefers Maxou heintzens feel over mine. everyone is different and their body geometry comes into play especially with coup actions. the main thing i think is to play rhythmically and for dancing. if the dancers are moving well then that’s job done

maxou is always a little bit ahead. his melody then seems to drag a little but it’s so charming to dance to

Obs you got a style and years of experience, people are gonna want more - but it must be annoying to be hit up after every video for just one more angle/POV/specific doodah. I'm very happy seeing the vids just as they come, how they come. I've been mesmerised by your drumming on the music vids here and seeing this vid after studying your technique on the fly brings it all into focus. Thanks for your time it is much appreciated!

thanks jason, yes i do it if and when i feel like it, i could bore on for hours i suspect but it's better to keep things short and I hope that some of it will sink in if viewers want it to. I've tried not to overwhelm. melody can overwhelm and anyway a good solid beat technique is the lesson for today
