Huron and Eastern in Owosso, MI AMAZING HORN

TURN UP YOUR SPEAKERS! The evening before PM #1225's excursion I was in Owosso and happened to hear a horn in the distance. I set up down at Cedar St. and waited for the H&E to return. What I ended up getting was some AMAZING shortline footage. A killer Leslie RS3L horn graces Huron and Eastern #3867, still in RailAmerica paint three years after being bought by Genessee and Wyoming. #3867 had gone to the end of what's left of the former GT mainline in Owosso, Michigan to pick up three boxcars. The first shot is at Cedar St. which also happens to have a WRRS Mini Bell and the final shot is at Washington St. (M-52)

Not likely this one. HESR does not go to Flint. Maybe CN, CSX or Lake State Railway.

I live pretty close to these tracks and have never seen a train on them in my life. How often does HESR serve the Georgia Pacific facility on the other end of the line?

+Jerry Riddle I honestly have no clue, I was at SRI and heard the horn. Once I saw that GP38 was on the old GTW I set up here and waited. I've actually got a lot of people jealous that I caught this by sheer luck because this move is so irregular. The industry is switched (from what I've found) on an as-needed basis, so it's hit or miss when it comes to this. Last through trains on this line to Grand Rapids were in the mid-1980's after the Central Michigan bought the line from the Grand Trunk and abandoned it shortly after. The other end of the line, the Grand Rapids Eastern is active every other day and is doing quite well.

Thanks for the feedback and nice going on catching this. My dad grew up with these tracks going right behind his house and told me that the line was abandoned sometime in the early to mid 90s.

The line was removed in the 90's but abandoned in the mid 80's, so that's about right.

This train was HESR 767, the local from Durand yard to Owosso, and back. Supposedly, this is a weekday train, I'm not really sure about it.

No, just a mini and I believe a standard WRRS model 222 bell
