It’s crazy though how Yilmaz Sahin turned every character (even Hurrem and Suleyman) from good and well intentioned, to irritable, bitter, sarcastic, sociopathic… Not only are they all hateful and angry all the time, they are also self defeating and pathetic too. The way in which Hurrem accepts that her illness is a punishment for her sins… This self defeating, weak caricature is not the Hurrem we know and deserve. (Yet no one talks about or blames the screenwriter enough.)

The difference between them, is that Mahidevran blames everyone but herself for her woes. It is always someone elses fault. Looking at Hurrem in disgust when saying about Mustafa, when as Hurrem says, she was the one that caused Mehmed to lose his life. Hurrem knows that she did things that were bad, but Mahidevran views herself as some innocent, hard done by woman. You just know that (series world, not the real world) she would expect only glory when she dies. Even Hurrem realises that she will have a lot to answer for. How many people lined up to pay homage to you, Mahidevran? And how many lined up for Hurrem? Yes, I thought so, humble yourself! There is only so long that a person can blame being slighted in love for their pain, it isnt a lifelong get out of jail free card. I would imagine that the real life people, if they could watch the series, would not just turn in their graves, they would somersault in there!

The only one seeking power and crossing moral boundaries in the process was clearly Hurrem. Hurrem is an evil person. In the pursuit of her ambition she is evil to sacrifice people. That doesn’t mean she’s not likeable. But at least let’s appreciate her for what she is.

Mahidevran's character is a lesson in self denial. She never takes accountability for her choices and actions. She always lies and changes history to fit her view. She pulled her young son into her adult problems all the time and used him as a weapon against Hurrem. She put him in harm's way. She kicked off this whole war with Hurrem because she was jealous. She took an already traumatized girl and tried to kill her twice, once while she was pregnant. She preaches at Sulaiman that he killed his son over the throne. Over "temporary things" but she did the exact same thing to Mehmed. She knew he would be chosen over her son and she couldn't stand to lose. Even forgiving Hurrem here isn't about real forgiveness. She did it as some twisted punishment so Hurrem wouldn't be able to tell God that Mahidevran didn't forgive her. Mahidevran is a monster.

I do feel for Mahidevran. And more for Mustafa. He would have been the most righteous king. If Hurrem was Suleiman’s woman before Mahidevran, she would have done the same things to stay in power and make her son the king.

I’ve noticed a bias regarding the episodes that these channels choose to post. Ok, Yilmaz Sahin was a terrible screenwriter and derailed the characters. But at least he destroyed everyone equally! 😂 Why aren’t the videos where Hurrem beats Hatice brutally ever reposted, but they are hidden? Does it hurt the fake perfect little image you want to craft about Hurrem?

Ok let alone Hurrem, whose actress changed and everyone blamed the actress for the quality decline. What about Mahidevran? Can anyone reasonably compare the Mahidevran of the beginnings, and this pathetic little shadow here? Everyone must all realise it: this show lost its creator Meral Okay as it was being produced, during its second season. After that, a worthless idiot completely derailed it.

After all when she almost beat Hurrem to death she couldn´t accept that she did something wrong, her only explanation was that Hurrem was telling Suleiman some lies.

@ Yes, I did, but I don´t really know what are you trying to prove by this. Yes, she stood by Valide like little puppet, because Mahi was incompetent, but was mother of the oldest child, so others (mostly Valide and Ibrahim) naturally protected her and Valide liked power, so she didn´t like Hurrem (also she was very often same as Mahi with her "how does Hurrem dare to accume me of things I truly did?!"). We don´t see Valide trusting Mahi to do something, she even tells her that Mahi is dumb and Hurrem is more clever. You said that Mahi had dignity, how does being member of "lets hate Hurrem" group mean that she had dignity? She just cried all the time and waited until others solved her problems. When she bankrupted harrem even Ibrahim (who was previously in shock that Mahi did something so stupid, even for her standards) told her to solve it herself. Yes, Hurrem cried too... when she was almost killed, when her horse was killed, when she lost her child, you know, understandable reasons. Mahi just cried all the time and about everything. I don´t remember so many scenes with Mahi, so I truly have to ask, in which scene did Mahi actually act with dignity and grace?
