Love your videos... You should protect that valuable tools trailer from easy theft .. Put it up on blocks and remove the wheels, storing them and the nuts in the storage building. Install a hitch lock. Avoid the grief of a drive away by making it too troublesome.

Thank you so much 🙂 There is a lead keel and 3 giant trucks blocking access to the tool trailer. Also, there is a couple that lives in their RV in the yard right now. They're right next to the catamaran. I do have a hitch lock on there and video surveillance both inside and outside of the tool trailer 🙂

Heating pads - I use the heating pads available from pet stores which are used to heat reptile cages. They do not get too warm. I use them to germinate seeds for my garden to get an early planting as well as when I bake bread during winter months - great for bread dough fermenting. 👍

I've worked a lot on vacuum systems in my profession as an hv cable jointer. The easiest way to find a leak, in my opinion, is a spray bottle with alcohol (sprit). Fine mist spray, everywhere you suspect the leak could be. The vacuum will suck in the alcohol and it rapidly expands, giving you an immideate reaction on the vacuummeter. The alcohol inside evaporates in an instant and does not leave any residue.

Greetings Mads. You can find heating pad from other industries, I live in Saskatchewan Canada so I know what cold weather is. I have made heated Shelters for some of our feral cats here. So if you need higher output in the 300 W range I have used old waterbed heaters. But they can overheat if not in direct contact with a heat absorbing mass (water bladder, or cement block). Also there is lower output heating mats used to start seedlings. I would argue the temperature difference you need to produce from 45° to say 90°F could be accomplished in your cooler with its high installation. Another out-of-the-box solution is you can buy a 12 V non-compressor style refrigerator. They come with a plug that is polarity reversing which turns it into a heater. I hope this helps.

Hey Mads, she's coming along nicely. Interested in why you would use a dry layup and vacuum infusion, rather than a wet layout that is then vacuum bagged. Matt at The Duracell Project has had great results with all his fibreglassing doing it this way.

On several occasions i have got refrigerators for free from a recycler after they have removed the compressor and heated it with a small incandesant bulb for heat and kept my epoxy and other temperature sensitive supplies. Good insulation and seals and shelves you can configure however you need. I have never needed a thermostat.

@gpdewitt 13 күн бұрын
What temperature are you looking for to heat your epoxy? I can think of several non-custom possibilities. Hot water. Electric blanket. Heating pad(s). Those comfort heating things made to heat up in a microwave. Hot bricks heated in an oven, or over a fire then covered in some kind of cloth to protect your cooler. A sheet of hard insulation cut into a box instead of the cooler.

Hey Mads, I found hot water makes a better way to heat epoxy than heating the air in a hot box. My boatyard had an outdoor sink and I used it to heat epoxy resin and hardener. The epoxy containers will float, but the resin inside heats very thoroughly. I found the right size plastic bucket or a small plastic trash can fit the resin and hardener so it stayed upright when it floats. You can heat water on a grille if you don't have boatyard hot water. I also heat spray paint this way so it flows better.

It is COLD down here in Florida this January. We are used to a few cold nights but this cold daytime stuff is not normal in our experience since 2027 when we first came here in our boat. Folks on the local cruiser's net are starting to call it the Florida Icy Double-U instead of ICW. You should have bought a scrap parts engine for all those missing brackets and weird parts. . Something with a spun bearing or the like so it wouldn't be too expensive or a cracked head since you didn't need one of those. I found a really great local fiberglass shop in Fort Pierce which is amazing. They even have their own house-brand epoxy.. It's called the fiberglass supply depot and it is right on Rt. 1 and isn't that far from you in a car. There is also a Massive marine consignment warehouse less than a mile away also on Rt. 1. You could spend a day at the consignment shop just wandering around. It is like boating Mecca. Disneyland for Cruisers.

Hi Mads . You might find a simple and cheap leak detecting tool in a shop selling car parts and tools which closely resembles a doctor's stethoscope ; the thing they often have hanging round their necks to listen to hearts and breathing . The mechanics version have a metal pin which can locate engine vibrations or noises and a alternative little bellows end piece to track down noise from leaking air pressure . These devises are so handy for finding noises , Soapy water can help locate leaks when water damage is of no consequence . Then there are smoke making pressure devises to consider , but these machines are expensive and bulky , really too much weapon for for your needs at present ! A belated happy new year to you both !

For drilling venting holes in the foam and even softer woods, its a lot more convenient and fast to use a homemade drill. Find a discarded bicycle and snip out one of the wheel spokes. Then hammer it flat in one end and grind a simple arrow point spade drill tip on it. The "spade" only need to be ever so slightly wider than the spoke. ^ You will find it drills just as fast as a regular spiral drill, but you will get next to no swarf and say a 10-inch drill has a lot less tendency to snap than a short spiral drill.

A friend recommended using a cheap stethoscope with the bit that you put on your chest removed to find and pin point leaks. I tried it yesterday and it worked great! Unfortunately I ditched the flow mesh because I couldn't get it to lay neatly, and this caused the resin to not flow well. It wouldn't wet out the last 1/3 of it. Looks like I'm throwing out a couple of hundred dollars of carbon and resin and a couple of days work! Try again next weekend!

If you simply place a incandescent light in a cooler it will be far more than adequate for warming of resins. Simple and easy. You will probably only need a low wattage 10-20 watt bulb to prevent excessive heat as it will get vary hot with only a 60 watt bulb. We built a plywood box at work to heat our lunch and a single 60 watt bulb it was piping hot in a few hrs. Basically a kids easy bake oven if you remember those 😂 Good luck to ya!

I have an idea about warming your epoxy. Try a Sous Vie (can't remember how to spell it). It's a cooker designed to heat water to a specific temperature. Your food is in a zip lock bag and the heater circulates the water to the temp you set it. No more fire hazard or concern about too much or too little heat.

Hey Mads & Eva. I know the feeling about ‘sticker shock’ for the engine components, I’ve just finished making an engine control box, panel & wiring loom for our refit boat project. I highly recommend doing something similar if you feel inclined, it’s very simple once you get into it and makes a great project. The benefit is full customisation of the layout, and the looms are made for the boat, so no unnecessary coils.

I have done quite a lot of infusions using either Vinylester infusion resin or Proset infusion epoxy and generally prefer the VE for a number of reasons. I like the turnaround time (for demolding) lower viscosity, and general better physical properties. The Corezyn VE i use has a tensile strength about a third stronger than the epoxy and better elongation, as well as being cheaper. It is of course a bit irrelevant as even polyester is stronger than any of us really need.

Build an insulated MDF 'hotbox' that uses an incandescent bulb or an infra-red heat lamp to maintain a warm space for epoxy. If you want to go all in, you can install a thermostatic vent on the box to keep an even, set temp... Our big Stainless box lost some heater elements and replacements were impossible to find. While we searched, I used a plywood shipping crate lined with some foil faced 4cm insulation, installed two sockets and 100 watt bulbs, then swiped the 'Bi-metallic' heat vent from our big guy. We kept using it and never fixed the old one... ⛵✌

Try some plant germination mats to keep things warm. cheap, and work at about 80 degrees F. I use them to keep my Li batteries from freezing and to warm my sourdough bread.

your test bag was not a "failure" as it's goal was to test the system and method. As if found issues it was therefore a success as it has prevented such when using the molds. :)

Mads, the guys back in Denmark are laughing at you for the calling Florida's weather "cold".

You probably know this Mads. But you could seal up The under-side (Work-place) with some tarp and bring a A/C down and set the humidity levels and temp just perfekt for the curing. Makes a much stronger bond.

It's straight forward to make a cure box. Knock together a basic plywood box of whatever size you need. Line all sides inside with insulation. Solid pink foam works well. Mount an incandescent bulb inside for a heat source. Just make sure the volume will hold what you want to warm up. It should maintain a constant temperature around 70F give or take. I do testing for construction including testing concrete. The samples I make need to be within a specific temperature range. A cure box like what I have described is a pretty common way to insure a good cure temperature in cold conditions.

In the past I used a pot of water with sous vide cooker to keep resin warm. That was at a much smaller scale and I do not know if it would work on a larger scale.

Nice welder you got there. Be sure to use a respirator to avoid getting the nasty (chromium) gases that evaporate from the stainless steel coupons you got there. Cheers.

Have you considered putting an infrared heater overhead? It would be useful all winter in various locations as needed. Ran sailing uses this all the time on his build.
