Thankful for civilian videos and podcasts which did a better job than the main stream news stations did to cover this story properly. I find that KZbin podcasters are more sincere and thorough. TV news people are too robotic, sanitised and statistic oriented. Sad. Miss real newsporters like Walter Cronkite to report the news. Our hearts are breaking for all those poor people who lost their lives, homes, family, friends and community. Shocking. God bless them. Bless all the rescue workers. Watch how civilians step up and bring supplies like water, food, clothes and first aid to people stuck in remote mountain areas. A group of civilian helicopter pilots organised a rescue mission and saved many lives. You can find them all on KZbin. So many brave Americans stepping in as it was too big for authorities alone to reach the most vulnerable.

I volunteered at a shelter for evacuees from hurricane Katrina. The first thing they got when they arrived was clean socks and underwear. They were so thankful for those items. It brings home how important even the smallest necessities are to those who have lost everything.

Most of the help in the form of meals, donated goods, and securing temporary housing for evacuees in my city was done by local organizations and volunteers. I was shocked at how little help they offered.

@@darwinjina It's extraordinarily horrendous disaster that people were warned and mandatorily asked to leave because resources locally are limited for the numbers that chose to stay or ignore the circumstances of danger that climate change obviously brings. Man made levies never hold up against the power of nature and developers are at fault from the get go. Now . . . they must get the infrastructures in place to get help there. One small town mayor said it best--she didn't want a bunch of people coming to help until safe transportation and electricity is back with places to camp and outhouses for basic needs. There is no "Red Tape" per se until that is in place first. The Red Cross is there on the ground now. They also coordinate with FEMA. It's not like an Instagram can be sent to fix things.
