It is 9:49am on Sunday after the fury of Helene I live in Maggie Valley,NC .We have been hit hard as well such as bridges and roads being washed away. I want to thank all NC First Responders for everything they have done to help the people here. No one has lost their life but they lost their lively hood. Starting at time stamp 3:25 and the short news segment about the North Fork Reservoir. If one traces down the North Fork Left Fork Road(on Google Maps), it makes a sharp turn and cuts through a large field before it intersects with North Fork Road. There is a line of trees and Legacy Lane as the outer borders on each side of the field “above” the road. This is one of the locations where we parked the “working trucks” and part of basecamp while filming the Oscar winning “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” Just on opposite side of the road(in the field below the road)was the actual location of the three billboards in the movie 🎥

Starting at time stamp 13:07 that Biltmore Village BP gas station(in close proximity to the Biltmore Estate)is one of the more frequent refueling stations that I utilized while driving the fuel truck during the filming of the “Biltmore Christmas” movie back in January/February 2023. FYI, the Biltmore Village was originally established as a “company town” during the construction of the George Washington Vanderbilt II Estate(construction began 1889, completion in 1895 & opened Christmas Eve 1895)containing housing for the estate workers, along with delivery of construction materials by the railroad located in the village. I was also baptized upriver in the Cane River mentioned in the beginning of the video around ages 9-10(when it was much calmer, of course) Reminiscent of the saying… “Lord Willing and the creeks don’t rise.”😉

At the 5:00 time stamp, S. Tunnel Road is steeper just before the location of the reporter as it passes by the Asheville Mall. One Winter evening, back in the early 90s, I had to stop at the top of that hill to wait for a couple of vehicles to get clear in order to have an open slick road heading towards Swannanoa River Road(levels out before the swift water about where the power pole falls over in the video). I kept switching and repeating the process between 2 types of jackknifes with the trailer weight pushing the tractor around at the drive axles from the low gear crawl, then applying brakes to shortly to realign the equipment just before the trailer started around sideways from the braking in a Brigadier GMC city tractor pulling an old ragtop(tarpaulin type)trailer for Carolina Freight(terminal was located at 192 Swannanoa River Road back then)as I “slithered” the equipment like a snake down the grade in order to maintain a crawl down that hill. 😅

Climate change and rising sea levels will make properties in low lying areas and coastal areas impossible to insure. Banks will be reluctant to give a mortgage for 15 or 30 years because the property may be under water. Selling properties to average buyers will become impossible in the future as banks and mortgage companies stop making loans for these properties. Coastal areas are a high risk for insurance and extreme weather like hurricanes. People will have to self insure and take the risk of loss. Condo associations are losing their insurance and if they find a new higher cost policy they will be passing on the higher costs to association members. Flooded cars from hurricanes fill the salvage lots. Insurance companies will raise rates and pass on the costs and risks to policy holders next year. Coastal properties will be confined to wealthy individuals that can buy properties with cash and self insure for losses from hurricanes or rising sea levels.
