The first storm I experienced was Hurricane Gilbert, which was just a distant, gentle brush here in the Cayman Islands. It was so mild by comparison, I remember I fell asleep on my porch watching it. It made me think that was what a hurricane was. I remembered thinking I'd like to see what a real hurricane was. I will never again utter those words.
