The scope of the devastation was only beginning to come into view days after Ian slammed into the peninsula as a Category 4 hurricane. Punishing winds and waters left a trail of destruction on the southwest coast and into central Florida, flooding streets and homes and knocking out power, water and internet service.

Wow. You captured it well. We live at 41 and Cranberry. 2 pine trees came down from the neighbors yard, taking our pine tree with them. Hit our house, taking out the lanai but, thank God, no damage to the house roof. LOTS of trees and branches in our yard. And the storm surge! Flooded our garage but, thank God again, didn't come in the house. However, my car got caught in the flood and totalled. Geico did a great job taking care of business. An unbelievable experience. Kayaking up to the RaceTrac for almost a week before the water receded. FPL did such a great job getting the power back on! And North Port did well, also, getting the water back on. But those poor people who lived in the over 55 parks...omgosh. They suffered so! All together, it was a massive disaster. Again, you did a great job capturing it. Thank you for posting your vid.

I was in a High Wind Warning one time it it was like this, taking out power for 4-5 hours, no internet, and creaking and cracking. The only difference was that the house didn't flood.

Sorry to hear that, with FEMA you have to insist and try over and over until you have the answer, the other option is be in person with a FEMA representative but I don’t know if they still around!!!

I'm really sorry you had to go through this. But you really need to move out of North Port. We moved out of North Port in the mid 80s for a reason and that flood is exactly the reason why. Lived there since 1970 through the mid 80s grew up there and all you needed was a half hour rain for the ends of each of the streets in the old neighborhood to fill up with a puddle on long enough that it wouldn't drain that tadpoles would hatch in it and I could go down there three days later and catch tadpoles as a child. Those supposed drainage dishes behind the houses and the old neighborhoods yeah they fill up within about 2 hours of a heavy rain and start flooding the streets. So when I heard Ian was going to hit North Port yeah I knew this was going to happen I just didn't think it was going to happen in the newer neighborhoods. They should have never cleared the swamps and built orange groves there back in the 40s 50s. And then they put houses in the '60s.

🏳️‍🌈📺🌀📱 Boy thanks for sharing this video anyway because I was wondering some places got hit hard from Hurricane Ian. That's why I go to US-41 near shortcut for going to doctor appointment nearby. I live at South Sumter Blvd & luckily my street didn't got any flooded after the rain gone. Man I was so glad to have new doors to protect my house with impacted windows for strong winds. Thank goodness you trying to keep your house dry inside while middle of the storm coming. I bet everyone is helping out being neighborhood. So far it was totally mess & thankfully we gotten rid of oak trees due to starting twisted middle of eyewall. But hey all of us made it safe. 📱🌀📺🏳️‍🌈

@@andresadventures7505 My daughter lives off of Price and Glenallen. (Single mother) Her rental management company still hasn't gotten her a tarp for her roof, so finally her managers and team from the Publix (at Sumter and Price) got one (today) and put it on her roof for her, just in time for the rains today. We got her a generator and she's set now if she keeps losing power. We were down there (Pt. Charlotte) for Charley, but that was a much smaller storm, and it was bad enough. I'm just glad that her house is built as sturdy as it is. Thanks for the video.

@@andresadventures7505 We are so glad that she's ok. We used to live in North Port, on the other side of Sumter, in the area that was under the 4ft of water, before we bought in Pt. Charlotte. It's a nice area, or used to be, anyway. We like the rural area that we're in up in the Florida Panhandle now, though.
