Footage of Hurricane Ian in North Port, FL. The eye wall stayed in North Port for hours upon hours into the night.
I did my best to keep the footage in chronological order. I will be posting a video in the future of the aftermath. Things are still unfolding in the North Port area.

I live in north port aswell right on the myaka river. The flooding in the streets was up to my chest. People in my neighborhood had to be rescued by boat. The day after there were air boats going down the streets checking houses for bodies and survivors. So many abandoned pets its heartbreaking. aswell as the amount of wildlife whos homes were destroyed. We were out of power for 10 days and all our food spoiled, roof damage, flooding damage too. Our entire fence fell over and many of our trees did aswell. I live close to Dallas White Park.

I was actually very close to that area they were evacuating people from homes on boats. It was so heartbreaking to see. It’s so crazy and scary to me how possible it was that that could’ve been my area.

🏳️‍🌈📱 Boy that storm it's crazy like hell. I can't believe it & since you mention lost power my mom just gotten scared without power on & darkness. My neighbor I live at South Salford Blvd on Mulgrave Ave it was a totally mess. Thankfully my house only gotten small damage on our property it's oak trees & fence steel brand. During middle of the storm that wind gust so strong it knock down my nextdoor neighbor the Kell's house their wooden fence it blown right near my laundry room next to dryer vent. Like my god it gotten 2 wooden fence like whew it was very close one. By the time before the wind slowly down me & my dad just peaking out french door to see my cross the street one of the neighbor Kim their shed big one it gotten rip it off while they have strap on to protect their stuff but their part of their shed is gone & totally lost. But hey I'm glad to have triple layer of shingles products from Tampa brand & they did it great job for keeping our shingles on with sticky glue they have like a tar. We gotten much better to have hurricane products to use stronger winds for windows & doors. So far I'm glad my street didn't got any flooded at all after good amount of rain like almost 20 inches of rain. Thankfully some of places it took them longer after the rain settle down & luckily we have earlier this year to start using underground power. Thank goodness we are in very happy camper mood because no damage of our underground power box whew. Thank goodness we gotten rid of oak trees big time because of it starting to twisted from high winds & nothing goes wrong for our neighborhood. 📱🏳️‍🌈

Sometimes it's better to stay. In this case as much as I hated the experience I am glad we stayed because the wind was pushing on our front door and pushing water underneath it. We continually wiped it. If we would have left, we would have returned to a house full of water that would have come in under the front door. Lesson learned, sand bags would have prevented that. People whose rood leaked were able to put buckets and cover the areas where eater was dropping to help make the damage less severe - this happened to our neighbors. If they would have left many things inside would have been wet and ruined. Of course ideally it's best not to be here but in our case it was better that we stayed.

I went through this hurricane and got a direct hit, it was very scary but my house is okay. None of my family died, but I’m young so it was horrifying for me.And we got flooding almost up to our garage, and our house is above flood zone. But at one point it looked like heaven outside, it was completely white bc there was so much rain. This was very traumatic for me and my family but we are all okay.

There might be other reasons. Evacuating is rife with its own headaches. Miles and miles of traffic at a standstill for hours for one. Finding a shelter that allows some dignity, provisions and such that doesn't close up shop in a week or two after the storm, then there's re-entering one's area to find God knows what kind of conditions. If one has enough provisions for a month, one can survive until power gets restored and gas stations come back online.
