I think maybe they’re getting better in general at communicating this stuff. Like.. in addition to having training in meteorology and in understanding the model outputs, they’re now getting better instruction on how to communicate issues such uncertainty in a storm’s path.

I grew up in Houston watching Sid Lasher (hard to imagine!) I watched Neil Frank and others who have taken the time to teach what is happening and how it happens. You are EXCELLENT at explaining complex things. I can imagine some kid watching your video and being inspired to study the earth sciences. This is the first time I have actually watched you (I live in Austin) but just wanted to encourage you to stay the course. Reporting on fatalities and damage these storms can bring can often get inside your head. I am good friends with a retired Armed Forces Radio meteorologist and he told me (almost every time we got together) that a typhoon that hit Bangladesh was one he reported on in the late 60s. He described it as if it happened yesterday, and admitted that he wished he could 'unsee some things."

This is a pretty amazing storm. The height of the storm grew many tens of thousands of feet over the last two days. When it was a tropical storm the cloud top temperatures were about -30C. Last night the temperatures were down to -90C and more and more of the cloud top was moving up to those heights and temperatures. Now the entire head of the storm is in really super cold air.

Thank you for the update. I used to live in Sarasota & Englewood. Heartbreaking to see the damage. Now in Michigan. A friend living here in summer , in St Pete area in winter is cleaning up. Got back there last week to deal with/clean up her mobile home. It is now unlivable. Floor collapsed. And now Milton coming. She is fortunate tho because they have a house here in Michigan. But still devastating loss.

I live in GA, but I have been following this station for a year or two now because no other helps me to understand the way that this station does.

A massive hurricane, perhaps record winds to hit Florida. I hope all Floridians remain safe. Counting my blessings in St. George, Utah!

To cause Florida the most devastation. To unite the Gulf within a Mexico. To denounce the evils of storm and surge. To extend our reach to the Floridian east. Helene. Milton. Team hurricane blasts off at the speed of a power walk! Surrender now or prepare to have your car flattened! El Niño, that’s right!

Thanks for clearing up the Atlantic Basin thing. I was wondering why they were calling a Gulf storm an Atlantic one.
