Tropical Storm Nicole is lashing the northwestern Bahamas on its way to eastern Florida, where it is expected to strike as a hurricane by early Thursday and deliver heavy rain, damaging winds and possibly tornadoes to some places still recovering from Hurricane Ian.
Nicole’s center, with sustained 70 mph winds, just 4 mph shy of a hurricane, passed over the Bahamas’ Great Abaco island by early Wednesday afternoon, and it is expected to next cross Grand Bahama, the US National Hurricane Center said.
Nicole eventually is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane Wednesday on its way to Florida, where it could make landfall perhaps shortly after midnight near Port St. Lucie, the hurricane center said.

What in the actual fuck - were those two surfers trying to snake into the lineup? And that one dude paddled back out! I was certain I was about to witness a drowning. Great footage! Zero spoilers. You deserve an award for this.

I got caught in a rip current in waist deep water in Jax Beach back in the 1980's. I was standing there one minute, then a wave came in, and I had no footing left. Fortunately, my husband at that time was an experienced lifeguard, and although we were on vacation, he knew what to do, and got me out, before Jax Beach lifeguards had to. Since then, I never got in the ocean over my knees on calm days, and never got my ankles wet on days the waves were rough. The ocean is beautiful. It's also deadly. I'll admire it from the beach when I go from now on.

Yes, that happened to me and a friend, we were half a mile from the lifeguard station and it was late afternoon, my friend found her footing had disappeared, I was on the edge of the hole, we wrestled for a while but I finally was able to pull her to the good part. It was scary. Both of us though went on to enjoy beach trips and frollicing in the surf anyway.

He was never in danger. He was hugging the rocks on his paddle out because that's the "conveyor belt," the easier draw out with the push running out along the rocks. He could have turned around and gone in the way he came at any time but just took the shortcut over the wall. No problem. He probably paddled out there instead of beasting it right out into the pack to conserve energy. The Coasties were the real ballsy ones. It takes guts to ship out in that mess.
